I have never made a secret about the fact, that I’m not a fan of My Bye, mayor of Torbay.I like so many residents of the Bay, know we need to make changes to turn the fortunes of the Bay around. Sadly he firstly got it all wrong about Rock Walk and what a mess this once beautiful cliff face was.
Any tourist attractions should be made welcome to Torbay, after all we depend on people coming here, but they need to be in good taste and placed in the correct locations. To me the balloon on the seafront is the wrong place for such an attraction. It is just too big and is a blot on the landscape; there were better places to put it in the Bay. What upsets and worries me more, is the way Mr Bye ignored the covenants on the land. With the future plans he has for Torbay and many on land that has covenants I fear he will ride rough shot over these, to just get his own way.

Within the first 24 hours of the balloon being inflated I see it had 47 punctures in it.
I bet the Young Farmers will improve on that record when they visit the Bay!!

I think it's great for the bay to have something diferent form the rest of our seaside rivals, It looks perfectly fine when it is in flight. Maybe they could have chosen a better colour for it (Yellow & Blue)

The idea is so people get a good view of the bay whilst they are up there, no other location for it in my opinion.

Perhaps if it had a "longer rope" it could hover over Southampton - and when the folks in the basket got caught short.................... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Personally, I find all this talk about the balloon just a load of ........HOT AIR! ;D I have heard rumours though that Nick Bye is to be kept on call 24/7 should it need 'topping-up' at short notice!

I heard he was going to be rounded up late, in the dark. Tied to his balloon and then it was going to be cut free. If only life could be that simple

The Bournemouth balloon it seems only operates during the summer and is take down for the winter.

I'm in full agreement with you Dave (now thats a rarity)!! Seriously I'm proud to show visiting friends our seafront, but that damn balloon is an eyesore. Its ugly and spoils the view. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it was an 'old fashioned balloon shape' and maybe a pale blue colour, something more traditional looking.....but I think it looks cheap and tacky.

Dear mello, I have a feeling we some how are going to agree a lot more these days ;D ;D Its just so big and when My Bye said a balloon, I had one of those nice hot air balloons in my head. I went to Berryhead, no not to jump, to see if I could like it from there. NO, so Carol had to pull me back from the edge.

Can't say I'm overly enthused with it, I can see it from the end of my road in the Warberries to my surprise, but I'm reserving judgement until the end of the tourist season and we can see how much it's brought in and general tourist views on it.
It's not something I'd have done but then again if I was Mayor I'd have made a mayoral vision focusing more upon diversifying Torbay's economy and providing entertainment/recreational facilities that are so lacking in this area. That said I do broadly support the Mayor and most of the Vision (even though it needs seriously expanding in non tourist areas) and if the balloon is proved to be successful, then maybe he'll get a bit of clout to push through some other ideas, more substantial ideas.
That said breaking the covenant wasn't on, and Calamity Carroll needs to be shot, he provides nothing but bad publicity to the administation despite their best efforts.
