As promised more of Crooky's handy work. As an explanation, prior to becoming a connoisseur of the real ale, I preferred to imbibe 'fruit based' drinks, famously refused to me by Mr Merson one cold evening in Halifax (in fact it could have been THAT evening in Halifax) when he told me to 'go and buy it my chuffing self') The broken umbrella refers to a day at Shrewsbury when that cheating little bleeder Nigel Jemson got Ryan Ashington sent off for a foul that was never a foul in 20 years of Sundays and I smashed my brolly on the concrete floor...it was the last time it was ever used and I got soaked going back to the car since it was peeing it down!  The memories come flooding back Mr Charles. I remember that day at Shrewsbury very well. Do you still have a fondness for Darren Freeman and Andy Hessenthaler as well?  |

Ah, the crotch grabbing, foul-mouthed Mr Freeman...who wouldn't like him?
As for Hessenthaler, I'm actually going to watch his current team Dover Athletic on Saturday against Staines Town. I'll be sure to say hello!!

You're very lucky I gave you the money then Chas!  Just to enlighten those "not in the know"................. Stepho (Andy Stephens, and a big wecome to him on here at last!) is Capital Gull's (Andy Charles) landlord...................that's as in the place he lives, not the local he drinks his fruit based real ale in. Hence they are known as Rigsby and Miss Jones!  Just thought I'd share that with everyone

Yes, a warm welcome indeed to Andy (Stepho) who I not only went to school with but also shared my formative years as a Gulls fan with before he emigrated to the big city! (I believe he's now in charge of the NHS or something equally impressive!  ) He was responsible for introducing me to freezing cold nights in the Grandstand listening to Compo shouting incomprehensible instructions to the reserves (yes we used to have a reserve team!!), and witnessing the mighty Dudley Lewis climbing the steps to the directors box to lift the Neville Ovenden Combination Division Two League Cup! (They were dancing in the streets of Torquay that night!!.. although we never got an open top bus parade!) Can't remember him falling asleep regularly though, except for an infamous trip to Blackpool where he spent the whole weekend ensconced in the B+B, too ill to leave his bed!! (Dodgy pint I expect!) Welcome to the site Andy, and yes I did receive you're Facebook invitation but I'm afraid the whole "social networking" thing has passed me by and I'm not a member! While I'm at it, welcme to Mattpuma as well, who will remember that Blackpool trip for other reasons!! |
