Relatively pleased with a point today, but I am sorry although I was delighted that Benyon scored and he took his goal well I just do not think he is good enough to start every game at this level, he is too lightweight and we need someone bigger and powerful, he is not scoring enough goals for us. Too many times he is beaten off the ball and its ......... bloody frustrating!!

It was a shame that Ellis who was by far our best player today could be criticized for the missed header that lead to their goal. Good to see another BSP player making the grade! oh sorry wrong forum.

Its easy to be a bit rose tinted me thinks but we all see the game differently. Encouraging yes in that Bucks can still motivate the squad but more quality is definitely required and to think otherwise would be like all those deluded no hope-rs on x factor imagining g that they can sing! Cannot fault the effort and determination but just to scrape a draw the team has to play like this as we lack the techncal skills and a player who can impact a game and lead from the centre of the park. I thought Mark Ellis was outstanding today considering what little football hes played in the last season and he lead by example brave and quick saved our skins on a number of occasions and for all our efforts Bury could have easily been out of sight midway through the second half. Incidentally Little Danny, for all of Merses criticisms does have those technical skills and still offers good options when he gets the ball and rarely wasted them today.

I am quite grateful for a point as at half-time the omens were not good. 1-0 down deservedly so, and I could not really see where a goal from us was coming from. Crowd 2,524, around 200 from Bury, sponsors MOTM Benyon.
As expected the only change today was Rendell replacing the suspended Sills. Torquay started quite slowly and could not get any real foothold in the game. This was not helped by having to deal with a swirling wind that was in Bury's favour in the first half. Bury were that bit slicker and looked more able to carve out chances. After 20 odd minutes Bury had a glorious to take the lead. From about 8 yards out and clear on goal, Elliott screwed his shot wide of goal. This was a clear warning sign to Torquay and it did stirr Torquay into life. However a Bury goal was on the cards and after making another opening they took the lead. Jones from about 8 yards out but from quite a tight angle hit powerfully low to the far post which beat Poke. Torquay did get the ball in the net just before half-time following a scramble from a corner, but was disallowed. So 0-1 half-time and there was little rhythm to Torquay's play or creativity although no lack of effort.
The second half Torquay tried to up their game but you wondered who could come up with the goods and Bury looked dangerous. I thought our defence held firm and again Ellis had another impressive match. Torquay's best hope of scoring seemed to be from set pieces and a couple of headers went close, including one cleared off the line. At least in the second half Torquay were getting their fair share of chances including some decent shots from Benyon and Wroe. In the 59th. minute Torquay scored a goal of quality. A Rendell nod on put Benyon in the clear outside the penalty area. Benyon unleashed a corker of a shot that beat their keeper through sheer power and accuracy. 1-1 and the goal made a lot of difference in Torquay's confidence and the crowd responeded as well. Both teams tried to get the winner but 1-1 was probably quite fair.
So another draw and I was quite grateful for that against a decent Bury team. We made no substitutions and that for me was a telling factor. We played our strongest team available today but there were a lack of options on the bench to improve things. The team had a good send off from the crowd at the end as they gave their all and showed a good fighting spirit. That will certainly help us in this relegation battle but the lack of options really concern me.

Glad to take a point at the end but something is missing from our performance. Good to hear that replacements are being sought and one hopes that they will be in place for the Notts County game.
Thought the ref after a few odd decisions at the start of the game would go on to do a 'Keith Hill'- he 'missed' the kick on Rendell by the git known as Sodface and wondered why he booked Ellis but fair play to him he handled the game well.
Bury could have gone in 3 nil up but thanks to dreadful misses it was only 1. I don't think we had a serious chance on goal in the first half and I couldn't see where we would get a goal from. I was all for bringing on Williams for Benyon!!
Who is that maid that screeches the half time draw? Jeez what a voice - made for radio.
Second half started well with Benyon having a good chance before banging one home. Apart from picking the ball out of the net I don't think their keeper had much to do, which is the most worrying aspect of the game - although I understand that feelers are being put out for a player who has played for us (possibly in our first season in the BSP) - I would also like to see an Atkinfenwa type player.
I thought that Carlise was excellent in our half but disappointing in theirs. Nico gave their winger so much space he had time for a cup of tea before taking the ball and passing Nico with ease.
TWO games undefeated or no win in EIGHT.

It's good to hear Brian, but a big and imposing player with pace who will keep the opposition on the back foot instead of building patiently from the back as keeps appearing to be the case at Plainmoor this season would be such an acquisition. Listen to the manager now on the Beeb football website in his after match interview and see if I'm wrong

I do have to agree with the views about the lack of any player on the bench you felt could come on and offer anything in the game. I also was saying to one person, much what it seems chelstongull was thinking, that maybe Williams should come on in the second half and be tried up front with Rendell. But in the end Benyon once again showed that he knows where the goal is and while he was very ineffective during the first half, he never stopped working and the goal was his just reward. The game I missed with Ants new strike partner? well he came on in the second half and took his place alongside a proven goal scorer and added to the goal Ant had already scored, the one and only Andy McFarland.

Hmmm, I think that said player (I'm assuming that you're talking about the player that we have been chasing for ages - I worked it out by deduction!) would just be what the footballing doctor ordered! Something that drove things forward would be a real bonus and would give some real options.
There was something missing today (even though I felt we competed very well and we didn't fail to win becase of lack of effort). There wasn't so much on the bench that could change the game for us - although the players on the pitch picked things up in the second half. On his day Williams would be a very useful asset - but his last couple of performances have been underwhelming and perhaps he is very low on condfidence.
Having the opportunity to be able to move in the transfer market is encouraging - even though I don't believe that there can feasibly many rolls of the dice yet on that front after this next move.
On an aside - Charnock and Todd are surely going to have to bide their time to get back the starting spots that they will believe they deserve. The form of Robertson and Ellis is one of the most encouraging developments so far this season.

Remember. it's not just the players, management and 'front row' staff that keep a match day going... sometimes it takes a man with fork and his assistant!

It still worries me that most sides see our left flank as our weakest point and send their wingers down like marauding Vikings. Yesterday the Bury RB was left footed and when our right footed left winger cut inside he was snuffed out. Important to have a left footed winger who can cross with his left foot. I'm sure that after Wembley that someone at the club stated that money would be available to strengthen the squad - Charnock and Rendell would be the only senior personnel added. We then have Green sent to Oxford and his replacement Joyce now at Weston. A quarter of the way into the season, 8 points and second from bottom - Red Alert has now been confirmed.

A deserved point against a useful Bury side. Brief observations:
Pros - More endeavour from Nicky Wroe when we didn't have the ball and some decent passing when he did.
Mark Ellis and Robbo - I look forward to seeing this partnership blossom. Both inexperienced so have patience with them.
Wayne Carlisle and Lee Mansell - Enough said
Cons - How much homework do we do on the opposition? Their right back was so left footed yet we never targeted him outside. If only we had a left sided Lee and Wayno.
Decision making on the pitch - The players should think for themselves a bit or at least Greavsie take charge. We put ourselves under pressure by kicking high into the swirling wind second half. Why, when Sodje was off receiving treatment did Robbo and Mark not push up for those corners.
Current squad will do well to get out and stay out of a relegation dogfight . You never know, Muzzy's time at Kettering may be as beneficial as Mark Ellis's at Forest Green.

Incidentally Little Danny, for all of Merses criticisms does have those technical skills and still offers good options when he gets the ball and rarely wasted them today. Now for me Danny Stevens did not do that yesterday. He did very little and constantly chose the wrong option and the final ball was awful on too many occasions. He cannot cut it at this level. But we all have different views

I do have to agree with the views about the lack of any player on the bench you felt could come on and offer anything in the game. . and yet PB has constantly said that he will only bring in players that improve what we have already got! Mills, Williams Rendell (who only played yestrday because of Sills injury) have all been brought in but not deemed good enough to start - so why are they here?
