Venue Alexandra Stadium Gesty Rd Crewe
Prices
Adults £19 Senior citizens £15 12 to 16 year olds £8.50 Under 11 years old £4.50
Nine goals in our last two games and non conceded is just the sort of form you need to take into this game, as its going to be much harder to get a result against Crewe. All games are winnable and so is this one and the way we are now playing I firmly believe our boys will come home with all three points.
There is a chance Smith might miss this game, but then I thought that would be the case against Darlington and he played in that one. Should he not make it then we can expect Nico to play at left back. Some feel it that happens we should then play Zebs on the left wing in-front of Nico. I would keep Zebs upfront with Rendell, yes it would mean Benyon going back onto the bench.
Bucks does have a few hard decisions to make and after Benyon's hat trick against Stockport, it would be hard on benyon not to start this game, but Bucks will pick the team he feels has the best chance of getting a win.
I would expect to see Hargreaves start and Tompson also going back onto the bench and Poke will take his place back in goal.Might be a good game to play Ellis instead of Robertson, Mark would be the real battler at the back I think we will need.

It is unusual situation for someone to suggest that our top scorer and hat trick hero from the last game should be dropped. However, in this case, I would agree as I think that Zebroski and Rendell represent our best combination up front with both in form and scoring goals. Prior to the last two games against two poor sides, Benyon hadn't scored since Bury on October 3rd. Robertson hasn't been dropped yet.

I have a funny feeling that this will be my first Torquay V Crewe game since that rarely talked-about game back in 1987!

Anyone travelling up for the game tomorrow might be as well to check before setting off (or set up someone to keep them posted). Temperatures in the Midlands fell to -3 last night, are not expected to get over 0 today and set to plummet to -5 tonight.

If the game is on, Smith will be fit at any rate.

Thanks for the info, Gipsy, I'm on an early Sat. train from Euston after a late night out - so hope it stays on! I rang Crewe today - they are not worried - have covers over the pitch - and are expecting rain.....
Last time I was at Crewe - 1981 I think - we won 1-0. I'll be happy with that tomorrow - a tough, but 'winnable' game. Teddgull

The news is that Smith has fully recovered from his toe injury and Bucks has a full strength team to choose from. I think that will mean Smith will start and Nico will find himself on the bench again. Hargreaves wants to get his starting place back, but Thompson played well with Wroe in the Stockport game and Bucks may well feel he wants to stick with the same two in midfield. Bucks biggest headache has to be who to play up front, he is sure to want to start Zebs up there but with who? as I said I think it has to be Rendell, but Benyon you would think would wonder what he has to do to keep his place after getting his first senior hat trick,if he was dropped to the bench. Who would be a manager

I think he will start with the Darlington 11, which IMO gives him his strongest options. It's been a while since we've had this strength in depth in the squad.
I'm sure the 'elders' will have a spreadsheet to hand to tell us when the last hat trick player was dropped for the next game.

No pitch inspection is planned and Crewe still has the covers on the pitch so it looks very certain the game will be going ahead. Firmly believe we can get a win today and then follow this up with a win on Boxing Day and if other results went our way, we would then be heading for a nice mid table spot.
As has been said if we can keep the loan players here until the end of the season, we will have no worries about being relegated back to the BSP and it is possible we might even reach the play-offs. The only question if that was to happen is would enough people support the club then? as if and when we become a league one club, gates really will have to be so much better then they are now.

Well it's damn cold again this morning - even the canal next to the house is frozen this morning. No news of the game being postponed, or even of a pitch inspection so fingers crossed all goes ahead. A good chance to put some more ground between us and the bottom, as our game (assuming it goes ahead) will be in the minority of league 2 games played today.
See you at the soup stand!!!

Yeah, just phoned Crewe as well. The game is on and there's no snow in the area.

Well it's damn cold again this morning - even the canal next to the house is frozen this morning. Stoke Prior eh? Nice little spot on the old A38 on which to park your caravan until the police move you on Gypsy! Frozen canals always remind me of our visit to Chester in 1966 when I excasperated already broken fngers by stepping onto a ledge of ice up on the city walls and crashed about 12' onto the canal footpath below.....................result? A broken wrist to add to the damage and watching the game on a frozen and snow covered pitch at the old Sealand Road amongst a 9,000 crowd in great pain! Cheshire was a picture postcard of frozen beauty as we motored up that morning ~ a nice part of the country for sure and anyone who was familiar with Gresty Road and Crewe Alexandra in those days will be amazed to see the wonderful club they have metamorphasized into nowadays what with their ground completely rebuilt from the collection of little shacks it once was and their excellent training centre/academy out near Nantwich. So big is the main stand at the stadium these days one can see it from miles away accross the flat countryside. Enjoy your day out at the Alexandra Stadium today!

Don`t you mean the cardigan wearing historians! Aussie, you really need to learn how to read Merse’s posts properly! He didn’t say cardigan wearing historians, he said “a collection of cardigan wearing nerds, political activists and historians”. I’ll admit to being the historian. I’ve never seen Rob C wearing a cardigan, so imagine that he must be the political activist – but don’t tell anyone or he’ll get kicked out of the cricket club and the golf club. I’ve never met Lambeth, but by process of elimination I guess that he must be the cardigan wearer – unless of course Merse was just being gratuitously offensive to everyone who disagrees with him. He wouldn't do that though, would he?

I don't think there is another club in the country who I admire more than Crewe Alexandra. What they have achieved in the last twenty years is nothing short of a miracle - and building it all on youth development is incredible. Dario Gradi deserves a knighthood.
