Good away point with ten men against a team in the Play Offs.
Sounded like we were under the cosh on the 1/2 hour mark with 4 shots on goal - Shrewsbury getting three.
DT was talking about the bringing in of players before the game, and how he thought Bucks was adopting the correct approach in only bringing in players who would be able to improve the squad. (Anyway thats what I think he said). Where does he spend the poppy?
Match reports awaiting with interest ;D

What a result today because for the first time in 10 years I have a tidy garage. Always a little wary of BBC local radio commentary but listening today they thought we did well enough. Hopefully a few match reports later will confirm this but the goal that never was seemed a little confusing over the airwaves. A point away from home against a team in a play off position should be enough to keep most (no doubt not all) happy. The unbeaten run continues and Ellis should get his chance to impress over the next few games. WELL DONE LADS... What do we know about the injury to Wroe?

Fantastic point...I defo would have settled for that at 3pm. It keeps the run going nicely On the whole everybody posting was very informative and positive. Suppose this means DTG wont be posting again this week........how I miss him when we pick up some points!!!!! ;D....its almost been a month now In the context of Shrewsbury's league position and that we were playing so long with ten men, yes a well and hard earned point that maintains a creditable and long unbeaten run. There was one notable exception in the match postings Longie, and having read the whole thread now I decided to research his individual offerings to this forum. Yes Frobisher, you are a miserable and consistently negative and particularly "anti manager and his methods" man. Obviously representative of the moaning old git of the Popside contingent like Shaw the Tiddly Eyed Thai and our friend Andygulls who must be straining at the leash to produce one of his graphs at the manager's expense Surely anyone who has an ounce of common sense would realise that Benyon WILL be left out sometimes in favour of a lineup that will guarantee a chance of better ball retention up front....................so essential away from home. Yet of course those with their agendas will peddle their usual negative rubbish. I don't know what pleasure they get from it, I really don't. Have a good look through Frobisher's history of posting and see what I mean.

Given the common wording from some of his posts across the sites (assuming of course that I am right!) I would suggest (and apologise if I am wrong) that Frobisher is a well known curmudgeon from the 'other side'

Just got back in after a far calmer and far less dangerous drive back than it was up to Shrewsbury from West London earlier today. My poor old BMW took an absolute battering from the wind and the rain on the way up. Indeed when I stopped for petrol at Oxford services the wind took ahold of the door and almost ripped it off the hinges. I had to exercise a lot of patience, then sweaing when patience failed in order to get the door to close again. But I managed to get away. Past Villa Park and then the Bescott Stadium and onwards to Shrewsbury in the fair county of Salop. You would think that an new out of town stadium with an enourmous car park would present absolutely no problems in parking. But you're not allowed in the club car park without a permit. There isn't anyway to park over the road. Percy Thrower doesn't allow you to park in his Garden Center even though he's been dead since 1988 and dour Duncan Bannatyne doesn't like you parking in his Leisure Centre. So the options are to park in the Hotel for a fiver or in the Car Rental place for a fiver. Most of the streets I saw had "no match day parking" signs warning you not to even try. Not good enough in my book. After 2 and a half hours driving in gale force wind and rain you want to park as quickly as possible. It's a bit of a souless ground. Quite smart and compact but just lacking in anything of note. Each stand has 18 rows of seats. Their fans are super quiet. But they did do a healthy cottage pie option for £2.50 which was quite nice. I tell myself it was healthy. No suet anyway. It was a shame that we couldn't hold on for a win as we probably just shaded the second half even with a man less. Like Arsene Wenger at the Specsavers Arena I didn't see the Charnock challenge as I was looking down a viewfinder of the old camera as the clouds overhead the Prostar Stadium were absolutely magnificent. As for the game. I thought we played well in the first 20 minutes, then they had the next 25 minutes but they huffed and puffed and delivered very little apart from a decent save from Poke. Their gloved winger Devitt, on loan from Hull, showed a few nice tricks but then kept falling on his backside and then started moaning to the ref every 5 minutes. Our lot started singing "who's the w@nker in the gloves", which in the context was quite funny. So half time and a chance to try out a new camera I acquired on Ebay for 7 quid. There really are some fantastic cameras for absolute peanuts on Ebay at the moment. The second half saw the introduction of Benyon for Stevens. A bit harsh on the wee man I thought but young Thomson didn't do much alongside Sills so the switch of Thomson to the left and Benyon to play up front made a difference in the minutes up to Charnock's sending off. Benyon made some decent runs, held the ball up quite well and almost got in a few times. I was getting the impression that we were beginning to click a little. Then as I was feeling comfortable enough to focus on the clouds above I heard the roar of disapproval from the Salopians and then one of approval when the red card was shown. Then every 50/50 decision seemed to go against us for the next five minutes. I decided to get myself a Oxo (note not Bovril) as I was starting to freeze. Ellis came on for Thomson who didn't look happy about going off. But I couldn't really see who else he couldn've taken off. Sills maybe? Then the goal. A decent and incisive little move ended up with Captain Fantastic hitting a deflected shot past their keeper who went down in a heap. They had a few chances. There was a header that seemed like it went in against the post but the lino didn't give it. Then just afterwards they did score. From 120 yards away it was a bit difficult to see what happened but it appeared like the ball pinged off either Ellis or Robertson and it went to that big donkey Hibbert who couldn't miss. Marvin Williams came on for the jaded Sills and gave us a bit more pace and shape. But he doesn't look fit and indeed I think he limps a little bit when he runs. We did start to invite a bit of pressure on ourselves but looked comfortable. They flashed up 5 minutes and we all groaned. But we held out and its a good point. It's a shame not to get more but at 0-0 and down to 10 men I would've taken 1-1. Plus points. Poke, Mansell, Tyrone T, Carlisle and Benyon had good second halves. Nico didn't had the greatest game ever and Sills looked very tired. Anyway a few photos... They look a bit grainy as I didn't check the ISO level and I had it up high the other night in the near darkness at the Staines Town V Bath City match. Breathe on 'em Salop? Did they nick a Dragon from the Welsh? I wonder if its from the french "Saloppe"? Not a term to use with one's wife Mr Merson. I was taking this one when Mr Charnock got his marching orders.

Thanks for your report Chris and great photos, they do not look to grainy viewing them on the forum. Seems mad about the parking arrangements, but at least you got to park in the end and despite the strong winds you have returned home safe and well and thats goos news as we look forward to your next game and report.

The walking arrangements might not have been quite as frustrating as finding a place to park but - whichever way you enter or leave the ground - you end up heading back on yourself. My bold plan to find an alternative route afterwards - as I hurried for the 1744 - almost came a literal cropper as I nearly slipped in the mud in the underpass beneath the railway line. Keeping my balance - and dignity - I managed to safely navigate the inevitable supermarket-and-McDonalds lunar landscape and made the train with a few minutes to spare. Yes, it's that sort of place but it's the 21st century - so I'm told anyway - and Shrewsbury's new ground is a tidy enough set-up and probably just what you'd expect of a new stadium development in a small town. Chris's pictures give a good idea - draughty corners and all - although I'm glad he didn't include any snaps of the loos (which appear to come complete with designer stains). New surroundings notwithstanding, there was a sense of déjà vu about the day's proceedings for me: missed connections at Newport and overcrowded Marches line trains (I've had some disasters en route to Hereford and Shrewsbury over the years) coupled with us going 1-0 up in a generally scrappy afair (reminding me of the day at Shrewsbury when the manager's job landed in John Cornforth's lap). But, in the end, I felt the draw was a fair result and my suspicion is that the outcome might not have been too different if Charnock had remained on the pitch (and the referee didn't exactly show hesitancy in reaching a decision over that one). Nothing special for the purist, but a good indication that we are starting to resemble a pretty average League Two team (which isn't too bad a return at present). And, although the initial selection and substitutions might have seemed harsh on certain individuals, I sense the logic and I think we adapted our tactics well during the game. Yes, to state the bleedin' obvious, we need to win more games but we've looked as good as the last half-dozen or so teams we've played. Let's hope that counts for something. And what of Breathe on 'em, Salop? I wondered if it might have been some sort of rallying call for The King's Shropshire Light Infantry but I can't find any evidence of that. Aside from it being the title of a recent club history, there's no indication of where such an unusual form of encouragement emanates. Page from this season's Aerofilms Guide to Football Grounds:

I think it is fair enough for Frobisher to question Bucks putting Thomson in attack with Sills. I don't know what Thomson's scoring record is like in his "previous life", perhaps someone could confirm his scoring record ? No-one can be of any doubt about his blistering pace and close control and his contributions as a winger, but his finishing from what I have seen so far has been poor. I have seen Thomson have a few clear shots and headers but has failed to show any composure in finishing. So not one to put in attack in my opinion. It also seems pretty harsh on Rendell who was very impressive last week.
On a more positive note, what a hero Hargreaves is proving to be again at the ripe old age of 38 ! Two crucial goals in our last two league matches and he has fully justified having his contract extended to this season. Who knows he might even play next season !
P.S. Big question of the week, where has your "R" gone, Dave ?

P.S. Big question of the week, where has your "R" gone, Dave ? What a question I have longed for so long to be seen only as a fellow member on the forum, but that has not always been possible even more so when I was also moderating the forum. Now that Jim does that job and believe me even its my wish a post was edited or deleted, if Jim says it should stay as it is then it will, Its no good asking someone to do a job for you then overriding them. Mine is the only account that can't be moved into any other group, I can't lose the admin tag even if I want to, by being just Dave that is how I hope everyone will see me. Well thats what I thought anyway

Swangull I really can't understand why Bucks started Thomson up front with sills, it goes against what he said a while back about playing to players strengths. I also feel he did not put any finishing touches to the goal attempts he has had, but he has shown he is a good winger with pace and very good tight control.
I think Bucks saw by half time it was not working having him up front with Sills and judging by what was said on the radio, he was guilty of losing the ball in a few dangerous areas a bit too often in the game.
I believe Bucks really needs to stick to formations the players know and always were possible, play then in the best positions, we really are in no position league table wise to be trying experiments in games, the training ground is the only place for that to happen.

Yeah in hindsight I think it was a mistake to start with Sills and Thomson up front together as a slightly more mobile pairing of Rendell and Benyon might've yielded better results. Especially with Thomson on the right and Carlisle on the left. It was quite funny watching the pre match shooting practice. Rendell was excellent and Sills couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo! Thomson looks quite raw but has pace and technique. But I think PB made a mistake yesterday playing him out of position. Both PB and JT will be a bit wiser after that. There's quite a decent match report on dot com. I find it amazing that 310 of our lot made it to Shrewsbury in that weather. Today sees the second sporting half of my weekend. Football Saturday, egg chasing Sunday. Today its off to Wycombe's Adams park to watch Wasps V Gloucester. Standing on the home Wycombe terrace for 15 quid. Not bad value for money.
