Did anyone see Tuesday's Bygones?
A brief history of Chelston FC, with three pictures - one undated, one from 1933 (is that Chelstongull in the back row before he lost his hair?) and one from 1970 with Justin's dad in the front row.

Didn't see it myself. I imagine it mentioned Chelston's days in the Devon and Exeter League (what was that all about?). My memory is of Rob "Sid" Doble - same year as me at school - coming in on Mondays and telling us all about Chelston's trips to exotic sounding places such as North Tawton and Bow. Don't think they had much time for city slickers out there.

Nice one, Dave.
It was the Gloucestershire Echo for me this midweek. The placard announcing ROBINS v TORQUAY - FULL MATCH REPORT looked rather incongruous in the spruce honeyed surroundings of Bourton-on-the-Water (anybody been to the rather quaint model village there?)

Well spotted Jon......the old man looks trim and fit there. I had to rather cruelly take the mickey, when i said to him that you know that you're really ancient when you're in a team photo in the "Bygones" supplement I'm sure you'll recognise the "trainer/coach" next to him in the photo with the TUFC connection, did you get the bloke to his right, that went on to be a well known antiques dealer?

Names were put to faces: BACK ROW Harry Smith Denis Hyde Brian Clark Mike Mudge Alan Meyer Mike Westaway B. Oades FRONT ROW Roger Mann Vivien Goode Roland Scott Terry Wilson John Mather Colin Davey

Funnily enough, this morning's Herald has a photo of the TUFC / Paignton College setup which includes Harry's son, Mark - a former TUFC player himself and now deputy head at PCC.

I was part of the Chelston Colts team (left wing) which won the South Deven Youth League in the 1969-70 season.

I just attended a retirement do for Rob Oades and showed him the above team shot as I thought it might be him!!! He advised me that he played for Torquay Utd a couple of times and said that B Oades was his father.I work in the Covent Garden area of London.
I'm sure if anyone knows him I can pass your best regard to him!
