Well this does seem a bit strange, why we would let Rice go out on loan to Truro, I can only think we must have a new keeper on the way.

This is very strange?? Unless Bucks is planning on putting the YTS keeper on the bench for use in an emergency, Or feels that competition for places is so high Rice would be a waste taking up a spot on the subs bench.

While I know, its not often a keeper needs to be substituted, but they always run the risk of being sent off. I would not be to happy with a YTS keeper on the bench. Games can we one or lost, If you lose your no1 keeper, how would we feel if we needed the three points, Poke got sent off and we were one up and a kid goes in goal and gets a soft goal put past him. I know I would not be too happy. I really don't think we can play around and not have a proper no2 on the bench, I know most of us don't rate Rice to highly, but he has to be better than a YTS keeper. This is the season we really do stand a good chance of going back to where we belong, so come on Torquay don't weaken the side, unless you have a better keeper on the way.

Perhaps the key lays in the wording "in principal" in the club statement and to that end I anticipate another keeper coming in but that this particular deal is not (to use the phrase I used earlier) "signed, sealed and delivered". Possibly Buckle has found a club (Truro) who can accommodate one or two of our large squad who will need to be kept match fit whilst not anticipating much action with the Gulls at present. After all, they (Truro) are about the standard we would expect our reserve side to be albeit a lot more competitive. I don't imagine for one moment that the manager would plan to go with only one professional keeper, so the million dollar question now is..............who is coming in?

Well there has been talk on exweb that Marriott, could be going out on loan and some have linked that loan to Torquay.
I for one don't think that would happen, but if it did, I would not be to unhappy with Marriott, being here.

Even stranger considering Truro already have 3 competant keepers on their books.

Even stranger considering Truro already have 3 competant keepers on their books. Are we likely to take the Truro number one as a season long swap??

I'm sure they will want to get the most out of their season, unless they thought Rice was better. Then you would have to ask the question, why would Torquay take a keeper on loan who was not as good as the keeper they just loaned that club.

Not too sure how relevant this is, but isn't the Truro Keeper on loan from Palace? I know it was only one game but he looked far, far better than Rice! If it is a swap, I for one would be more than happy.

This is a strange twist just afew days before the season starts but I have to say that Bucks usually does good bussiness in the market, so I think, whatever he's doing, he'll get it right for the club.

It still feels strange as others have said, that here we are four days away from our very first game and we are playing swap or loan games with our squad. We will just have to hope and trust Buckle knows what he is doing.

Yet more fun and games. Given that the position is one of the most important in the team it seems a little strange to me that we are relying on a loan signing for our first choice and our only contracted player is now to go out on loan. I suspect there will be some truth in the speculation about a replacement. However I am not too comfortable about this position being covered by 2 loanees....or is it just me?

No its not just you Andy, but the real question is why? you would think only a fool would be looking to loan out his number two keeper, unless he has something so much better lined up.
We all know about the Poke saga, so like Merse has said it has not happened yet and will most likely depend on Buckle getting who he is after.
You see maybe he sees Rice as the weakest link and feels that we could cost us promotion, if he had to go in goal for any length of time. Lets just wait and see how this unfolds. Remember this thread was because he had Woods lined up to go to Truro, that seems to not be happening now, as Buckle did not get his man.

I am surprised that Ricey has gone out on loan. I dont know why Bucks has done this, whether he is going to bring in another `keeper, have Grant Fisher (YTS Trainee) on the bench instead or have 5 out field players on the bench; but what ever decision he takes I`ll stand by and support.
