...and the encore?...... ........Pigs On The Wing - Pink Floyd - a mega-rare acoustic version........... .......and never a bad time for the Wurzels, a pint of apples please, ice and a slice........ ...Pill Pill... and ........Somerset Born And Proud/Down In Nempnett Thrubwell - two of their best, I reckon and both very poignant - I have a lot of time for these guys, have seen 'em play live on several occasions, one remarkable gig at Fontwell Racecourse which appeared to have taken place in a scrumpy haze - they're always very happy to chat to the punters and sign CDs etc, Pete and Tommy especially, great guys........... ......"now Auntie Lil at 105 could outscrump any man alive, a superstar without no doubt and they sang as they laid her out, she said I'm Somerset born and proud thats' what I am".............thanks to The Wurzels for use of the lyrics...

.......and never a bad time for the Wurzels, a pint of apples please, ice and a slice........ ...Pill Pill... Nice to see Mr_W starting to rehabilitate himself after that unfortunate Cliff Richard episode.... The genius of the late great Adge Cutler - one of this country's greatest poets. As a warning to the effect of partaking too much of the apple, have a look at this clip. It must be very disconcerting when a mad fan starts singing one of your greatest hits at you, but you would think that Reg "the man who put the Sod in Chipping Sodbury" Quantrill would recognise the song.

Nice to see Mr_W starting to rehabilitate himself after that unfortunate Cliff Richard episode.... ........well, how very kind of you to notice, Jon - in further strides to attempt to integrate myself once again fully into muzo society in general and also to cleanse any remaining Richardgate-related detritus from my tainted soul forthwith, I offer the following from 6 Musics' recent rather excellent offerings - it was broadcast early this morning and one of the highlights was a splendid set of tracks performed by the mighty Steve Hackett from the Reading Festival in 1981 (he of Genesis etc fame).......... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00rwm3t...........one of the best from the hour, if one checks out the track-listings, I think anyway, is "Ace Of Wands" - on his "Voyage Of The Acolyte" album from 1975 - as opposed to the theme music from the rather spooky kids show "Ace Of Wands" from the early 1970s entitled "Tarot", written and performed by Andy Bown (now with Status Quo as any fule kno) - this series was about a rather strange magician with an owl and possessing extraordinary supernatural powers - sound familiar, anyone? - and there was me thinking the girl Rowling had only shamelessly ripped off The Lord Of The Rings and the Narnia series of books........ ........the following contains a fantakkers review of the album by the way, and if one checks its home page, all sorts of proggy treats await - well worth checking out, Phil and Jon.......... starling.rinet.ru/music/hackett.htmstarling.rinet.ru/music/index.htm

...........I heard rather a cracking version of the Dylan number "Watching The River Flow" played by Janice Long on Radio 2 early this morning - it was by the Rolling Stones (along with Bill Wyman who re-joined them for this number), its' on a charity album released to benefit The British Heart Foundation as a tribute to their late ex-fellow band member Ian Stewart, the album is "Boogie for Stu" which is released on 18 April 2011 - Mickey Pip and Da Boys at their dirty, bluesiest best, which is how I like them............. ........probably only of interest to Phil the Progmeister and me....... www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=boogie+for+stu............now playing on 6 Music - "Windowlicker" by Aphix Twin (cripes!!!!!!)............

The Bells of Berlin - Lone Star
Saw them at Torquay Town Hall in the late seventies supported by Simplex. I think Simplex were fronted by a guy called Ford from TBGS but I might be wrong (can you confirm Mr W?):
The Lone Star gig was somewhat spoilt by some guy behind me repeatedly shouting 'The Bells' after every song. It was like shouting 'Hotel California' at an Eagles concert - why do people do that?

.......Wowser, wowser, and wowser again - I see from Sky News that Roger Waters will be bringing "The Wall" on tour again to the UK for the first time in over 30 years - including 6 gigs at the O2 Arena in The Smoke (in May) to be filmed, also Manchester and Dublin - this IS going to be something - apparently with the uber-technological gubbinry and special laser effects available nowadays, the end result is going to be VERY spectacular indeed, to say the least.......... .........and in an interview with him by Sky, he stated that, even treble wowser cubed, David Gilmour "may well" join him on stage at a single gig for one number, probably "Comfortably "Numb" - pigs may never fly again after the legendary "all four Floyd reunion" at Live 8 in 2005, what with Richard Wrights' sad passing, but if ya man Gilmour does turn up, well, I reckon aforementioned pigs may well get up and do a quick boogie, if not actually get airborne...... ........I'm sure my learrned friend Phil_Chelstongull aka "Lord_Tanktop, The_Progmeister and Baron_of_the_Bongos" will be pleased to hear this news....... tour.rogerwaters.comen.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wall_Live_(concert_tour)....currently playing on 6 Music.... 1. ......."Something You Should Know" - Friends Electric......... 2. .......snatches of "Out Of My Brain On The 5.15" - The Who - fantakkers........ 3. ......."The Impression That I Get" - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones........very nice indeed, shades of the mighty Dropkick Murphys (all ya best Pogues, Dubliners and Clash dreams rolled into one) here...... 4. ......."Burn Baby Burn" - Ash........... 5. ......."Good Morning Britain" - Aztec Camera/Mick Jones....... PS: .......don't forget, Radcliffe and Maconie start their afternoon Mon-Fri show on 6 Music from next Monday 1300-1600, deffo worth a listen.........
