.......Ah, my dear Bayern, you mention 1978, so the sainted heroes of TBGS known as Das Schnitz spring to mind again - 1978, the year of "The Schnitz" - I alas had left school in the summer of 1977 so missed out on a lot of the early in-house, school-generated history and publicity regarding the lads (all four were in both my learned friend on here crispygulls' (Chris Pascoes') and my year btw) - I however managed to hear and see a bit of 'em in their short time of existence when I was on leave from the Royal Navy in 1978/79 - as we haven't mentioned 'em on here for a bit heres' a rather splendid link, thanks to Stu Gordon, their bassist - first gig was on Wed 19th April 1978...... www.mrpibbs.com/kuro/oddity/oddity8.htm.....(on a personal level, I was home on leave for their first gig back in the April of '78 after a week in the Royal Navy down at HMS RALEIGH in Torpoint, East Cornwall, Yes indeed, the Das Schnitz years - they did a gig in the school hall one Friday evening - great versions of Pretty Vacant and You Really Got Me. I was right at the front for that one - my first ever gig unless you count Max Bygraves with the family. Incidentally it was the lunchtime performance at the Girls' school that really became part of folklore. I heard about that from several people who were there in the years following (including one of the mothers who organized the event and was later a colleague of mine) - I understand the bell was ignored at the end of lunch and the concert went on.
