......Wowser to the nth degree squared, gang - I see that all the early Queen albums are being released as remastered deluxe 2 CD editions on 14 March - including Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races - along with a new compilation album being released of rarebines - Deep Cuts (Volume One 1973-1976) - also a couple of the earlier compilation albums (ie Greatest Hits I and II) have been re-issued as remasters, there are no billy bonuses on these two although on all the others there are loads of extras, rarities, rare tracks, bits and bobs, out-takes etc - I am VERY, VERY tempted.........
...quickest way to check whats on what is natch just go to Amazon where its' all up, track listings and all.........
......truly fantastic - music of my youth - nice one Freddie, Brian, Roger and John.........

......I also caught the first couple of songs on Sky Arts over the weekend of the Sex Pistols Live At Brixton Academy 2007 - 30th Anniversary show - Mr Lydon as potty-mouthed as ever, Steve Jones three times the man he was (he is huuuuuge now!!!) and the band is still as energetic and aggressive as they ever were - the audience has changed somewhat from those early days - I spotted a couple of Rastafarians and some City gents in there now but a great laugh! - can't wait to watch the rest of it!..............
......memories of buying the album "Never Mind The Bollocks" on vinyl from Flox Records, Fleet Street in 1977 still fresh........
.........(my learned friend, the one and only Lord_Tanktop and Baron_of_the_Bongos, Phil_Chelstongull will be twirling his hippy beads, pressing his exploding purple flares, swinging his sandals in deep joy and supping his Top Deck cider shandy at the mere mention of Flox Records, I know).................

There's nothing quite like vinyl and I have all the Queen albums on vinyl. On the way to Devon a fortnight ago my son re-acquainted me with the delights of "Sheer Heart Attack" but only down side was it was a CD but I guess the needle would have jumped a far bit in the car otherwise Got to my place in Paignton and we decided to get the old albums out to listen to but unfortunately my quandraphonic Panasonic amp has died. He had to settle for iphone and laptop music wars instead but now i have a Panasonic deck feeling very lonely. Time for a new amp

There's nothing quite like vinyl and I have all the Queen albums on vinyl. .......oh aye stu, I so, so fully agree with you there - there was absolutely nothing like the auld vinyl, I've got about 250 LPs and hundreds of singles myself, I believe the Progmeister himself aka Phil_Chelstongull has over 600 - I have loads of memories from everyone at school wandering around with LPs under their arms all the time - at my time at TBGS mid 70s, it was natch Queen (in fact the opening bars of Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To....) from A Night At The Opera still give me the goosebumps all these years later, I can remember them reverbing through my old stereo speakers in Reddenhill Road, Babbacombe when I stuck the LP on), the other faves were artists like the Sabbs, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Floyd, Yes, Camel, Zeppelin, Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and more avant-garde (?!!!) stuff like King Crimson, The Incredible String Band, Van Der Graaf Generator, Steppenwolf, Captain Beefheart, Zappa, Gentle Giant and the Bonzos, the smell of the patchouli oil was lets' say very prevalent around those times!!......... ......flippin' heck, just the mention of that lot has me all misty-eyed again....... ............heres' to Rock n Roll and happy memories of all the old record shops in Torquay and Paignton - Flox Records in Fleet Street and Ronnies in the Market in Market Street, Torquay, Soundz Records (Torquay and Paignton), Castle Records, Torquay, even Smiths, Menzies and Woolies had thriving vinyl sections once upon a time if I recall correctly............... ............I still remember the thrill of ordering obscure singles and LPs in Flox, the staff getting the "huge book" down of all the records currently available (incredibly with loads of supplements as well), paying the deposit, getting the postcard through the post when they had got ones' sought after item in, and then the reverential taking down (from a special section behind the counter for ordered stuff) and presenting said item after extracting from plastic wallet - one occasionally was allowed to pore through this "huge book" of records available to find untold gems and rarities - Christ, I spent some money in there........ PS: ...........Still I just don't think I can resist the temptation of previously unreleased versions of Keep Yourself Alive, The Night Comes Down, Great King Rat, Jesus, Liar, Mad The Swine (all on Queen) - See What A Fool I've Been (2 versions), White Queen (As It Began), Seven Seas Of Rye, Nevermore (all on Queen II) - Now I'm Here (from the TV live show at Hammersmith Xmas 75), Flick Of The Wrist, Tenement Funster, Bring Back That Leroy Brown (Acappella Mix), In The Lap Of The Gods - Revisited (possibly one of THE great rock songs of all time imho) (all on Sheer Heart Attack) - Keep Yourself Alive (retake), Bohemian Rhapsody (Operatic Acappella Mix), You're My Best Friend, I'm In Love With My Car, '39, Love Of My Life (all on A Night At The Opera) - Tie Your Mother Down, Somebody To Love, You Take My Breath Away, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together) (all on A Day At The Races) - even if they are on CD!!!!!!!........ ........(there you are Phil, all the new stuff off the first five albums listed there for ya!)........ .............fantakkers, the dinosaurs still walk the earth.......... ........as they say, and Bob Seger (and let us also remember his Silver Bullet Band) sang, "Rock And Roll Never Forgets"........

I have loads of memories from everyone at school wandering around with LPs under their arms all the time - at my time at TBGS mid 70s, When I read the line above I had a flashback to somebody walking around with Magazine's 'Real Life' - that would have been 1978. I always remember it as I'd heard 'Shot by Both Sides' on John Peel's show the night before. I can also remember often having discussions at school about what had been on the John Peel show the night before. If I remember rightly that show went out late at night so may explain why the teachers were always telling me to wake up! I was also trying to think of some bands missing from your list that were popular at TBGS and of a similar genre - I could only come up with Iron Butterfly and Rush.

.......I had a flashback to somebody walking around with Magazine's 'Real Life' - that would have been 1978. .......Ah, my dear Bayern, you mention 1978, so the sainted heroes of TBGS known as Das Schnitz spring to mind again - 1978, the year of "The Schnitz" - I alas had left school in the summer of 1977 so missed out on a lot of the early in-house, school-generated history and publicity regarding the lads (all four were in both my learned friend on here crispygulls' (Chris Pascoes') and my year btw) - I however managed to hear and see a bit of 'em in their short time of existence when I was on leave from the Royal Navy in 1978/79 - as we haven't mentioned 'em on here for a bit heres' a rather splendid link, thanks to Stu Gordon, their bassist - first gig was on Wed 19th April 1978...... www.mrpibbs.com/kuro/oddity/oddity8.htm.....(on a personal level, I was home on leave for their first gig back in the April of '78 after a week in the Royal Navy down at HMS RALEIGH in Torpoint, East Cornwall, most of which I seem to recall now was spent ironing blue collars, white fronts and bell-bottoms, sewing badges on, polishing boots and running around the huge parade ground holding a bleedin' mega-heavy 7.62mm SLR (Self-Loading Rifle) above my head for my sins along with a bunch of similar miscreants - bloody character-building, we were told in no uncertain terms by a load of shouty POs and CPOs (my arrse))................. .............when I think back to those heady days of cheap scrumpy and endless nights out (and possibly even endless scrumpy and cheap nights out!) the words of a Bob Dylan song come to mind.............. ...."may you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung and may you stay forever young".......... PS: ..........on a separate subject, regarding current telly adverts, loving both the Werthers' Originals (aka Mr_Phil_Chelstongulls' favourite toffee) one with the Bread song "Everything I Own" (written by David Gates for his own father btw) - is there anyone who HASN'T had their hearts broken on the highway of life to the background of a Bread song somewhere along the way? (wow, came over a bit all poetic there!!)........ ......and also the McCains chips one with the "Give A Little Bit" Supertramp number as the soundtrack ("Oooh yeah alright, here we go again") possibly one of the finest intros to a song ever, or maybe its' "Anarchy In The UK" by the Pistols ("Right Nowwwwwwwwww" (cue one J Rotten demonic cackle) - discussion point?............. ......currently playing....... ........World Of Tiers - Hawkwind.........on their 1980 album "Levitation"............

I was also trying to think of some bands missing from your list that were popular at TBGS and of a similar genre - I could only come up with Iron Butterfly and Rush. ......I've just ran the names through my old mind archives again, combined with a look at my albums and have managed to come up with a few more that I reckon we were all into around that time 1973-1976-ish (some names rather more famous than others!)....... ............bigger-ish names - Hawkwind, Genesis, Argent, ELP, Quo, Bad Company, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Mott The Hoople, Jethro Tull, Nazareth, The Strawbs, Fairport Convention, Be Bop Deluxe, Uriah Heep.............. ................and a few more obscure ones for one reason or another - The Baker-Gurvitz Army, Mountain, Montrose, Spooky Tooth, UFO, Medicine Head, Humble Pie, Kansas, Juicy Lucy, Foghat, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Budgie, Cockney Rebel, Barclay James Harvest, Savoy Brown, Gun, The Enid, Caravan, Amon Duul II (I alas know not of the first Amon Duul, if indeed there ever was one even), likewise for Colosseum II, then there was Gryphon, Curved Air, The Nice, Renaissance, Gong, Lindisfarne and Steeleye Span............. ........I suspect my learned friend Phil_Chelstongull (Lord_Tanktop aka The_Duke_Of_The_Dumpling) is feverishly sparking up his peace pipe, waving patchouli incense sticks, chanting ancient mantras, clicking his finger cymbals, religiously murmuring obscure album track titles from Soft Machine, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Focus, Can and Todd Rundgrens' Utopia whilst fingering his worry beads, tinkling his wind chimes, toasting me with a Watneys Party Seven and possibly doing "The Bump" (to the sounds of Kenny!!!!!!) as he reads that little lot............. - "like yikes Mr_W, all aboard the Chelstongull Mystery Machine to The Haywain, anyone for a Scooby Snack, or possibly a pint of Double Diamond?, and who wants the new albums by Greenslade, Magma and Goblin taping?".............. ...currently playing.... ...........Wet Cheese Delirium - Gong......off "Camembert Electrique" album from 2001 - needless to say this outfit are as mad as a bag of badgers........... ...followed by - on BBC Radio 6 Music - a recording of a concert from way back in 1980 - at Oxford Polytechnic - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "Anything Thats' Rock N' Roll"/"Stories We Could Tell" (first play of this one apart from the soundcheck he said - incredible)/"Refugee"/"Breakdown"/"American Girl" (yep, years before Hannibal Lecter and "Silence Of The Lambs" had even been thought of - remember the scene?) - well good - even back then - very distinctive vocals indeed from TP............ ......cheers Phil, Bayern and stu!.......
