Yes I must confess, being able to chat with Phil(chelstongull) struartb, Jon and tufc01, plus get my first sighting of fonda or purist on here, made my whole day so much more complete, why I did not even miss TUAFC1, one little bit at all.

Tufc01 and Andysgulls - Evesham didn't play pretty triangles, but they were certainly more effective than Chipstead. They had sustained spells of pressure and broke very well, although fortunately their wayward shooting was definitely not up to the standard of the approach play! I must admit I was surprised how far up the pitch they played at times - their keeper taking freekicks from just inside their half even when they were't really chasing the game. I felt Bevan missed an opportunity to have a shot when their keeper was stranded - he can certainly get somme distance!
As for their theatrics - the last time I felt like this about an opposing team was Droylesden last season and I took some enjoyment when they were relegated. I was glad to hear people boo'ing some of their players as the end, just because it wastheir 'big day' it doesn’t give them licence to dive around like they had been shot and try and get opposition players booked.
Anyway. as for the next round - maybe a beatable lower non-league team at home again before the 'big one' away at one of the Manchester or Liverpool teams (Exeter fans, 'big Manchester teams' doesn’t include Curzon Ashton!!)!

Another improved commentary from Dave Saunders on BBC Devon today but I had to laugh at his interpretation of an email reminiscing the time Burton Albion came to Plainmoor in the FA Cup...............he was waffling on about some midfielder called "Clowie". "Ken Furphyism" must be contagious!

I have reposted Al's match report here, so we can have It on the matchday thread as well. Many thanks al, a great report and was nice to spend the afternoon with you, also thanks for the coffee. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For some time now Dave has been pestering me to do a match report so here goes, my first one On walking through the Pop side turnstiles and up the steps to the hallowed turf, could sense around the ground that the Plainmoor faithful expected nothing more than a win and progression into the latter rounds and the possibility of the illusive “big team draw”. On watching the team warming up you could tell that they were fired up for this match and it meant something to the players. Evesham had good support in numbers but am sure deep down they know that their cup run would end at the hands of the Gulls. First Half In the opening few minutes there was a battle for supremacy in the middle of the park with Hargreaves and Rowe dictating play. It was obvious from the side lines that Evesham were well organised and were not going to just roll over, for them this was their cup final. When Evesham did string a few passes together the players touch and somewhat erratic shooting didn’t trouble Bevan in goal, I must point out that Bevan must be thinking life in the English Riviera isn’t all that bad and I for one would be pleased if he signed on a permanent deal. With the wind picking up it was obvious that a long ball game wasn’t going to work. When united did get it on the deck and pass it about they were just too good for “the sham”. Carayol carried on where he left off and with obvious bags of pace he troubled their full backs and on a few occasions the end product resulting with the ball in the box, if Carayol can work on the end product Tim Sills could profit greatly. When Carlisle is fit he will have to work hard in training to get his place back in the team although his goal scoring contributions for us this season have been second to none. I digress back to the game. Evesham were proving a tough nut to crack as the end ball wasn’t cutting it for united. In the 28th minute when the dead lock was broken is was the infamous in swinging corner from Nicolson to be met by a nicely timed run by Tim Sills. You could see the Evesham’s players and fans head dropped as they now had an almost impossible task to come back from. Tempers were now fairing between the two sets of players and to me it was only a matter of time before cards were flying out of the ref’s pocket. As the half time whistle blew it was united who were on top with a workman like performance but nothing to get your heart racing. After my half time Bovril I took up my usual place on the halfway line. Second half The second half started off much the same as the first had ended, Evesham were at this point getting frustrated and tackles were flying in. It always unnerves me the way referees seem to let lower league teams off when they commit a late challenge with the attitude of “well they don’t know any better”. At this point Evesham were trying to get back into the game with a now or never attitude. Evesham were pressing and forced a corner which somewhat bizarrely ended up in a penalty for the sham. Their bench were jumping up and down like they had just scored the winning penalty in a world cup. How fickle! Moments later with the towering frame of Scott Bevan it was too much for the Evesham penalty taker and he dually squandered his chance shooting wide of the post. This was the moment that the Evesham players hearts sank and when united slowly but surely wound up the gears. Lee Mansell was having a blinder running down the flanks and getting the ball into the box, he has made that position his own and looks an accomplished right back, although he did play thee in his oxford days. I always liked him in our midfield as he is a genuine box to box player a phrase that is used too often in lower league football. With some nice build up play that man Tim Sills finished up a neat bit of play with a deflected shot beating the Evesham keeper. It was a foregone conclusion. Before you knew it, it was full time and Evesham were left wondering what might have been. It would have felt like a long journey home for the Evesham boys up the M5 and for the impressive gulls it was another win and no goals conceded. Job well done boys, am sure they deserved the drinks that I saw them downing in Bohemia hours later. Well done and now bring on the big boys. Al

My report; It's my first so don't be too harsh!
Date: 8th November 2008 Venue: Plainmoor Attendance: 2,275 Referee: Darren SheldrakeWalking down the road behind the away end with my Dad and his friend, talking about the team and whether it will be changed or not for todays game, I was feeling it. Seeing the six Evesham fan coaches made us think that today was going to be a good atmosphere. We got in the ground, and took our spot right on the half way line, just a little bit away from the singers. Glancing through the programme, Evesham really didn't sound like much. Like I was expecting. The teams were called out, and the stands were filling up. The Torquay squad left the field for the changing rooms at about 2:40, clapping the fans off as they went. The Evesham players stayed out for about five minutes longer, before all going and clapping their fans before leaving the pitch. The mascots were paraded around the ground, three Torquay mascots and about 10 from Evesham. You could tell from the Evesham mascots faces how much this meant to them. The away end was the busiest it had been all season. Everyone was waiting. First HalfThe players came out of the tunnel, to the clapping and "UNITED UNITED" from the Popside. They all lined up, and shook hands with each other. The captains were with the referee for the coin toss. Torquay got centre in the first half, and were playing with the wind. Everybody in the stands were waiting, expecting the referee to call the minutes silence. But he didn't. Surprise sprung onto the faces of many people around me, some complaining at how disrespectful it was. I was surprised at the Ref; I don't know if he'd forgotten or not, but, being a referee myself I would seriously be dissapointed in myself if I didn't do one for Rememberance Sunday. The game kicked off, and Torquay were passing it around, with Hargreaves and Wroe controlling the midfield, looking for some holes in the Evesham defence. Evesham, however, weren't going to let Torquay in that easily. They defended stoutly in the first few minutes or so. The first chance of the game came to Evesham, but somewhat crazy shooting from their strikers never troubled Bevan in goal. It was a midfield duel for a lot of the first half, with the odd break for either team. Roscoe D'sane had one of the best chances, but his 30-yard shot was well saved by Vaughan in the Evesham goal. Just a couple of minutes after, Carayol had a good strike that Vaughan parried wide, for a corner. Evesham conceded the first goal in the 28th minute. A corner from the right hand side was swung in by Nicholson, and Sills beat his man and glanced his header past Vaughan. 1 - 0. Evesham were pressing for a quick equaliser. Steve Woods was booked for what looked a trip on Hay. A man infront of me saw Woods deliberately trip him and was lucky to only get a booking. It started to get a bit fracious again a couple of minutes later, with Sills and Hands in a confrontation. The referee, who was the same one that we had at Crawley away, thought that a talking to too both players was all that was needed. Tyrone Thompson became the second United player to be booked, for a 50-50 challenge with Vaughan in the goal. Vaughan seemed to overreact to the incident, which from what I saw looked like Thompson poked the ball into Vaughans stomach. Just before halftime, Hay managed to find some space 30-yards from goal, and hit a sweet left foot shot which Bevan expertly tipped over the bar for an Evesham corner. Second HalfNo changes were made at half time. Evesham kicked off and immediately went on the attack. Mark Owen had a shot from the left side of the area that was well held by Bevan. A good bit of work by Wroe in the middle of the park found Mansell, whos 20-yard effort hit the side netting. The rain started pouring down. Just after the hour, a goalmouth scramble ended in Roscoe Dsane scoring Torquays second. Or at least he thought he had. The linesman had seen an offside in the build up long before Dsane had scored. No goal. Tim Sills tried his luck with a 30-yard header after Vaughans goal kick planted right on Sills' head. With about 20 minutes to go, an Evesham corner bounced around in the Gulls' box and was deemed to have hit a hand. It looked extremely unfortunate for whoevers hand it was, I think Steve Woods. Up stepped Danny Scheppel, the two goal hero against Rushden. He looked quite nervous. The Evesham fans behind the goal urging him on. Bevan looked calm in the goal, ready and knowing what way he wanted to go. The whistle blew, and Scheppel ran in. Bevan dived to his right. The ball went to Bevans right, but too far. Scheppel had fired it wide! The second Torquay goal came from Sills again in the 77th minute. An excellent run by Wroe, before he supplied a low cross that was just behind Dsane, but Sills hung back before curling a left-footed shot goalwards. It took a big deflection of a defender trying to block it, and it looped over Vaughan. With seven minutes remaining, Buckle, who was up in the Grandstand, told North to bring Benyon on for Thompson. Benyon looked sharp in his time on the pitch. In the 90th minute, Stevens entered the fray for Carayol. Carayol shook the Evesham left backs hand before jogging off. Carayol had given him a torrid time. Stevens looked like he was going to enjoy himself. An excellent run from left to right by Stevens, skipping past all the Evesham defenders, allowed him space on the edge of the box. He had a clear run to goal, but decided to pass it wide to Sills instead. No more action to note after that, and the Referee blew up. The Evesham fans stayed at the end to clap their heroes off the field. The Evesham players clapped the fans at the end, and some of the Torquay fans clapped them off aswell. The news filtered through that Exeter had gone out brought a huge smile on everyones faces. Brilliant. Walking back to the car, discussing the game and who we want in the next round was exciting. Hearing the results on FiveLive, listening out for any more upsets was good to hear. Overall, job done. A good game in very tough conditions, and now another winnable home draw in the next round. Thanks for reading.
