Am I the only one who is a little surprised to sse Lee Mansell in every bodies team for tomorrow night? I think he has featured in every game so far this season, and with young Raiff Gwinnett tipped in the summer as a possible 'first teamer' I would of thought it would be an ideal opportunity for him to get a run out.
I certainly would not like to see Manse suffering from fatigue between Xmas and the run in to the end of the season, or pick up an injury that rules him out for a long period of time

No you are not alone Micky ;D I think Mansell has to be rested and Raiff Gwinnett really sounds a very good one for the future.
I'm sure he would not only do a good job, playing in this game, but would get so much from it himself.

Raiff Gwinnett is on loan to Tiverton Town, isn't he?
For starters, I hope to see for Jordon Charan - I have really been pleased with his two cameo appearances - he doesn't look overawed at all. With regards to other changes in the starting line-up, I think that it would be worth "keeping the run going" (hopefully!) by playing a stong side. Wroe, Carayol, Mansell, Nicholson, Woods, and Thompson didn't have the best starts to the season, but they surely have improved by playing regularly. I'll be interested in our progress tomorrow - will there be overage on the radio at all (I doubt it, but you never know!)?

Yes I seem to remember that Raiff Gwinnett is on loan to Tiverton Town. I have mixed feelings On this game, play a strong side and keep the winning run going, or play a weak side In all the games so as not to burn out our first team players, so as to increase our chance Of going up. I may have to sleep on It

For me you have to take the approach that you want to win every game. Aldershot managed it last season. If you give out the wrong signals what does that say to those who will be playing. Fringe players won`t be impressed with first teamers going through the motions. PB has to put out a strong team to keep the winning habit going but completely rest those at the top end of the "minutes on pitch" table. ie Mansell, Hargreaves & Sills plus Bevan.
str- Benyon & Green mid Stevens, Adams, Brough & Carlisle def ? Ellis,?,? Gk- Fisher subs- Charran, Wroe, Carayol, Dsane plus a youth
Defence is my problem havn`t got a clue what our youths are like or who plays there.

Buster that Is a very good argument and does make perfect sense, but lets not forget about some types Of fans we have.
lets say we play our strongest teams In all cup and league game, yes rest those we can later on In some cup games etc. So we get to the final In the Shield and the FA Trophy, but our league form drops. You know that Bucks will then come under fire and be blamed If some feel he has ruined any chance Of promotion, due to wearing out the players In cups many see as pointless.
I know this has not happened and I hope It would not be the case, but that Is why I'm torn over what really Is the best thing to do.

Dave,
You mentioned on a different thread about road closures around Weymouth tomorrow. Do you also know if that will increase the traveling time by much??
Also, does anybody know if it goes to extra time/penalties, straight to penalties or a replay, in the event of a draw??
Thanks.

The decision may not be that difficult. The fringe players need a good run out & Green has missed 3. Carlisle if he is fit could use this as a 60 min run out to test for Saturday. That just leaves the Defence & GK.

Although Aldershot won the Setanta Shield last year and got to the FA trophy semi final as well as easily winning the championship, I think that they used this competition to play a lot of their fringe / youth players and hey - they were good enough to progress.
Following this model, maybe we can have our cake and eat it - rest those ever presents - Hargreaves, Sills and Mansell while retaining the nucleus of the team. Everyone seems to think we have a squad with strength in depth, we need to use it while keeping the balance of the side.
In respect of defence, maybe play Nicholson, Ellis and Woods as they are low down on the minutes on pitch table. It is just the RB position that could be a problem to fill - maybe try Thompson again?

The road that Is closed Is the coast road, not sure how well you know the road, but when you get to the roundabout by the West Bay turning near Bridport, you turn right and this road takes you to the Granby Ind Est, the ground Is through the Estate, you will see the lights etc.
The road Is closed every day from 8.30am until 5.30pm as It will only take less than 30 Min's to drive from the roundabout to the ground, as long as you don't want to be there by 6pm, It will not effect your journey time. I do know they put cones on all the roads around the ground, but as I only drive past It twice a week and have never been inside the ground, not sure If there Is parking in the ground.
Drive carefully along the coast road, It has many bends and blind humps, It Is also a place they love to have speed traps. Enjoy the great view as you drive down Into Abbotsbury and see the Chisel beach that joins Portland to the main land at Abbotsbury.

Buckle has never played a weakened team in any cups so far, so I think he'll go with a strong line up to be honest. Mind you, even our subs are strong this season!
I agree with most others however and feel a few fringe players should get a runout. Danny Stevens, Benyon and Ellis could all do with a start, as could Steve Adams or Brough in the middle of the park.
Should be a good game seeing as Weymouth beat Kettering on Saturday. I'll be glued to the radio.

I'm willing to bet that more Torquay fans will turn up for this setanta shield game than most teams bring to Plainmoor for a league match.

Arguably Buckle did exactly that in this competition last year when we lost at St. Albans. Aldershot did indeed use their fringe players for this competition and there seems no reason why we couldn't successfully do the same with the far deeper squad we have compared to that which they had.
