tufc01, my remarks about any forward could have scored today, was not meant to take anything away from the hard work of Benyon that got fully rewarded by him scoring himself in the game. I just feel that due to some great play in many parts of the pitch by the whole team and the chances that were created, any player in the box forward or defenders could have grabbed a goal today and therefore it would not have mattered who had started up front today. Dave, i appreciate that. I used it as a means of highlighting my point that i felt he performed very well. Certainly well enough to warrant a starting place next Saturday. However, i do disagree that it would not have mattered who played up front today. I think it did. Lets take how many chances Green has spurned recently, add that to Sills and Dsane etc etc missing golden opportunities today, and last Tuesday, and in the last 3 or 4 matches. The others have had their chances and failed to score but today he was given an opportunity and took it with both hands.

Dave, I know you've been singing the praises of Matt Green in recent weeks, and justifyably so in my opinion, and you were baffled why he has not been playing. The word going around in the Family Stand and in The Nest is as follows : When Green was substituted against Coventry, he was unhappy and did not shake Buckle's hand when he came off etc. I believe Buckle held out his hand to Green as he came off the pitch. The next training session Green was given a "dressing down" by Buckle in front of the rest of the squad because of his attitude when substituted. As we all know, Green has not been selected since then. Today Green had enough today before the match when he found out he was not in the squad and went off in his car before the match.
Hopefully this explains matters more clearly to you. It seems to me there needs to be a lot of re-building of Greens and Buckle relationship before we see him playing again for the Gulls. I hope it's sooner rather than later.

If that has happened, then i think we all know where this is going. Or rather where Green is going, because he WILL be going.

Yes thanks swangull and gullpnorth I think most fans rate Green, not so sure about Rob, it needs sorting and as soon as possible.

Yes thanks swangull and gullpnorth I think most fans rate Green, not so sure about Rob, it needs sorting and as soon as possible. Good result today and it certainly sounded on the radio like the one-sided annihilation that some of the great match reports above describe. I guess I had better answer your comment DaveR. As mentioned in a previous post, I find him frustrating as he clearly has ability and pace, but he wasn't using it in a central position and often would either not pull the trigger or fail to hit a proverbial cow's backside with a banjo. Like the earlier poster, a spell out on loan to a club who are playing some of the top 8 sides over the next month or so wouldn't go a miss. If he gains a scoring touch wherever that might be then he will indeed play that important part in our play-off push that you mention, Dave. Hopefully coming back to us a reformed character. Obviously the described petulance above does him no favours, nor would it at any other Club with any other Manager.

Rob I believe Green will win you over in the end reading what swangull has said, it may well be that Green would go out on loan was not Dsane put on the list? when he had a problem with Bucks. If he did and was getting more regular football you will see the goals flying in and by then everything should be sorted and he will play his part in the team.

My understand now is that the Green situation will be sorted and he will not be going out on any loan, I really hope so as its clear many fans do rate him and believe he can do a good job for the team.

I'm sure he'll get his chance against Cullompton, then. I see this game in on the 25th of this month, the day after we play FGR, so he sure does have a chance of starting.

The reports of Matt Green and his little scene are a by product I'm afraid of creating the very strong bond and team spirit that Bucks has based his management of OUR club on and indeed worked so hard to achieve during his time as Assistant Manager of Exeter City. Some will take to it, some will not; but you can't embrace a "one for all and all for one" mentality but exclude those who can't or won't buy in to that ethos. It means what it says on the tin! It's history now that Rayner and Phillips wouldn't buy into such a spirit and so they have departed, numerous loanees have come and gone - early in some cases as they neither could embrace it. It's totally unfair to criticize the manager for adopting this policy because this is how he manages...................it is his style, and he has to be allowed to work to it without recourse to the nodding heads and gossip mongers tittle tattling and others more vociferously claiming he doesn't possess man management skills. "All for one and one for all" is what got "Tommy" through the horrors of the trenches, and it's what gets teams back into games that can seemingly appear to be lost or keep going to the final whistle.........................look how many goals we scored almost at the death of games last season. There are other managers who embrace a totally different attitude and allow themselves to pander to the foibles, "un professionalisms" and quirks of players - that might work for them, we have had those types of manager at Plainmoor before and who knows, we might again in the future. But what we have to remember is that OUR young manager is a product of modern day thinking and modern day education in the FA run coaching schools, not doing the job on the back of years in the game and endless hours spent in the betting shop, treatment room and God knows who elses bedrooms as they idled away their free time in a sleepy resort miles from home. I was introduced to Matt Green after the Blackpool game and he struck me as a rather young and rather easy going young lad for his age........................more like a fifteen or sixteen year old. that's not a criticism but an observation and just maybe he is more drawn to the modern day idiom of players being much more individualistic and own career driven than one who is strongly into team spirit. It is a tendency that I have noticed in the game over the past few years and being somewhat "old school" not one that I have enjoyed observing. I might sound like an old curmudgeon, but I am appalled when I see grown men have their mum, dad, brother sister auntie May and Uncle Charlie trail round the country after them week in week out, I see players gawping up into the stands looking for said family when they run out and I think back to the days when although my dad would be at as many games that I played/reffed in as he could; he would more often than not make his own way to and from those games and keep his own counsel and his own company throughout "my" day. If I wanted to go through a game with him later in the week I would, and we would often argue and row like good 'uns. If I didn't - we didn't - end of................I don't think managers then (at my level or professional level) had half the crap to put up with that those of today do. If what is said of Matt Green is true then he has to spend the weekend thinking about how much he wants to be part of a successful team, and if he really does (and I sincerely hope he does because in my eyes he is an exceptional talent) he has to address that he needs to be carrying out the wishes and instructions of the manager to have longevity in the game as a professional because if he fails to grasp that very basic requirement he will be an "awfully long time retired" given his tender years. Something for the young man to think on!

I think Greeno has definately got an attitude problem, this thing quite often occurs when a player " rates" himself. He is fast, tricky and worries opponents defences but I still have not seen any shooting ability of note. Proof I`m affraid is in th pudding, whats he like at training? Anyone seen what hes about, cause I ain`t seen it on the pitch!

Didn't realise that the Matt green issue was getting aired on this thread so put my thoughts on the 'man management' one on the main board.. but it sort of agrees with Merse!

The thing that made me smile about the alleged Matt Green episode is that just about everyone at the match appeared to have heard the story by 3pm. This might have been because there were so few of us but I can't remember a previous rumour/story/whatever travelling so quickly. You could sense the disappointment of people having their nice little "exclusive" thrown back with a "Yes, I know". Even those who never hear rumours knew this one...

It was amazing wasn't it? Made me laugh too. Just shows how quickly rumours spread... It was faster than an Australian bush fire. The best one was in the toilet near No.10's... A bloke walked in, stood next to another, obviously a mate, turned and said 'Here, heard abo....', immediate reply, 'Yep' and nothing more was said!
