As a Burton Albion fan I just wanted to say thank you and congratulations to all those Torquay fans who showed such sportsmanship at yesterdays game. You are a credit to your club.
Good luck in the play-offs and I hope we get to play you again next season.

brewertone it was a great day for both sets of fans at Plainmoor yesterday and you have gone up as worthy champions. I have always liked your club and I believe we were lucky to play you this season when we did.
Your team has always had the beating of us and if we had played you during your fine run this season, we may not have won both games as we did.
Your club is not the biggest and has done so well to win promotion, this season, on TUFC forums you may read that some fans feel we have not achieved what we should have due mainly to all the resources we have at TUFC. I'm sure you would be the first to agree that this is a very hard league to get out of and it will never come down to just having more money to spend on the team etc.
All the best and we hope to play you next season

Your team has always had the beating of us and if we had played you during your fine run this season, we may not have won both games as we did. I would take you to task on the second part of that statement Dave....................... not one of either Burton, Cambridge, Histon or Stevenage has beaten us this season; nor ever looked remotely like doing so. I'm sure if Burton had played better against us we would still have upped our game and got the better of them. That's not to take anything away from Albion, both their team and their supporters have been a credit to this league and they go up with my best wishes. A message to Brewertone....................you have a good man in Roy MacFarland ~ a big man in every sense of the word as he had to be to step into Nigel Clough's shoes with little to gain and everything reputation wise to lose. I trust now your Chairman and Board will give him the chance to set you on your way to becoming long lived and worthy members of the Football League. It's not that hard "up there" and there might well be a flat spell or two once the early adrenalin has worn off, but I'm sure with three or four signings you will soon have a squad that could take you higher than League 2 ~ the very best of luck anyway and hope to be playing you again next season!

There was excellent goodwill shown towards Burton Albion yesterday, especially when confirmation of their promotion was greeted with spontaneous applause on the Popular Side. Good luck to them and I look forward to visiting the Pirelli again. Where better to enjoy a Bovril? Like Dave I thought the stewarding was excellent. It was a little strange to be on the pitch afterwards with the Burton players - but not their supporters - although I guess this was in the interest of the presentation going ahead smoothly. I'm certain both sets of supporters would have welcomed the opportunity to mingle. As far as I could tell our supporters respected the space of the Burton players although - in retrospect - it would have been a pleasure to have sought to shake hands with Darren Stride who seems to have been around for as long as beer has been brewed in Burton. Burton's programmes record the date each player made his debut for the club and two stand out: Aaron Webster v Halesowen Town 22 September 1998 Darren Stride v Sandwell Borough 25 September 1993 I hope both get a chance in the Football League and - should you want further proof of Darren Stride's longevity - this was our team (v Crewe) the day he made his Burton debut: Lowe, Barrow, Colcombe, O'Riordan, Moore, Curran, Trollope, Kelly, Foster, Hodges, Hathaway. Sub: Darby. And remembering that I saw Burton at Gloucester some time in the 1990s - 1997 to be exact - I checked the programme and, yes, D.Stride scored in a 4-2 win. What's more - from a Torquay perspective - Don O'Riordan had just been appointed Gloucester's assistant manager (I'd completely forgotten that). And Gloucester's manager? Well, just read his programme notes...

Where better to enjoy a Bovril? Kettering. Half a jar per cup in that neck of the woods. A man's brew!

Interesting snippet there Barton (as per usual!) - It goes to highlight the progress that Burton have made over the years (this certainly doesn't seem to be a "flash in the pan"). Great so see the joy of the whole club when they (eventually!) gave the trophy yesterday.
The sort of progress that they have made is a real blueprint for other clubs at the non-league would be wise to scrutinise - a steady and sustainable growth rather than gambling the very existence of a club by staking big money purely on over-inflated wages. I don't think that there would have been many that would begrudge Burton the title (if it wasn't going to be us) after the season that they have had - it was reflected by the respect that our supporters gave to their fans, players and officials.
Contrast this with the crass comments from Chris Wilder about this "poxy league". The only thing that is poxy about this league is the likes of their arrogance. Whilst I would be desperately disappointed if we fail to get promotion over the next couple of weeks, there are some genuinely fantastic "footballing people" at this level.
BTW - I was amused as I walked out of the Grandstand up past the away end to see the "Burton - BSP Champions" - it was a bloody close calll at the end given that most would have expected Cambidge would steamroller Alty!

Well, I was basing my argument on the brewer's tap principle what with Burton being the home of Bovril: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BovrilI shall bear in mind Chris's advice about the quality of the tipple at Kettering but - in the present circumstances - I'll try not to hanker after another visit to Rockingham Road.

I thought it was a fantastic gesture by our supporters to applaud the Burton fans. I seem to remember a fair few Carlisle fans afforded us the same level of decency at Brunton Park a few years back when we took a huge step into avoiding relegation even though it spoiled their bumper crowd celebrating the League 2 Championship trophy. A nice football moment that came over very well on Setanta.

I agree chris, it was just a real shame that the police and stewards didn't realise that it was a perfect opportunity to show football fans in a good light. There were fans throwing scarves into the away end and shaking hands only to be moved away. I guess I can understand why because you only need one idiot to ruin it all, but Torquay fans should be very proud of themselves
