Lee Mansell has started in every league and cup game for us this season and is hoping to do what Nico did last season and play in ever single game for the whole season.
Nico played a total of 59 games and if we get to the play-off final this year then the total of games will also be 59. I really hope he does it and we nail that play off final, he is such a nice lad and plays is heart out for the team and club.
I was so pleased to read how he thinks playing along side Woods has been a big help to him, we all know how well Woods is playing this season and I loved it when Mansell said how they smile their way through the game. I have said many times on here how good it is to see Woods play with that cheeky smile he has, things can't be that bad in the dressing room can they.

We don't really have a choice for right-back other than Robertson. For me Manse has always been a hard-working central midfielder. He has adapted though, worked hard and made the position his own. He will never be the finished article, however, at that position; although from what I've seen and heard he's improving all the time. Good luck to him (and the team) I say! He seems a good chap too.

As far as I am concerned players like Lee Mansell are invaluable to any good team. He is always guaranteed to give maximum effort and appears to genuinely enjoy winning for the Gulls as much as many supporter. I think he has developed into an excellent full back who is never shy of the ball in forward positions. One of the first names on the sheet every week in my opinion. Good luck Lee and see if you can do it in League Two with us next season!

So a question for our stats boys, what is the longest run of games any player has played for TUFC and who was he, by the way I don't know so please don't ask me. Easy, peasy: 207 consecutive League appearances by the late and peerless Dennis Lewis from 19.11.52 ~ 19.4.57 Closely followed by the 195 consecutive League appearances by the legendary Colin (Iron Man) Bettany from 4.4.58 ~ 31.8.63 including ALL 46 of the 1959~60 Promotion Season! This equated to four consecutive full seasons for Lewis (1953~54, 54~55, and 55~56; and no less than FIVE for Bettany (1958 ~59, 59~60, 60~61, 61~62 and 62~63. I thought every true Torquay United supporter had this drummed into them at Primary School age!

Phil Lloyd deserves a mention for appearing in all of the 204 competitive games between signing for us in the summer of 1987 and his injury against Maidstone in December 1990. He started all but one of these games, coming on as a sub on that occasion. With play-offs, Sherpa Van, etc, Phil played in 123 games in his first two seasons with the club. I understand the current secretary of Taunton Town hasn't missed watching a competitive game since 1975 (for many years he watched as a supporter before becoming an official of the club). He doesn't claim to have watched every minute of the football during that time as he once had to take Tom Kelly to hospital during a match.

Manse has been fantastic in his time with us, and i don't necessarily agree he's playing 'out of position' at full-back. His weakness is his passing ability, which is why he's sometimes found wanting in the middle of the pitch. Everyone assumes his 'real' position is central midfield - because that is where he played for us when he first arrived, but i think he's more suited to the right-back role he currently occupies. I actually think his ability at right-back would be more appreciated if people didn't have this nagging thought that it's a 'stop-gap' role for him. He has all the attributes a full-back at this level needs, and is as good as any in this division. He tackles well, is comfortable on the over-lap, links with Wroe and Carlisle superbly and provides good ammunition from wide positions. On top of all that he has a winning mentality. He's one of only 2 or 3 players we couldn't do without.

Fonda, that post made good sense and I feel you have hit the nail on the head when you say that fans think its a 'stop-gap' role for him. Yes it may well have been to start with and I did feel we lost something in the middle of the park when he went to right back at first.
But like Hodges mansell has really grown into his changed role and I can't think of many players in the BSP, who do a better job than Mansell does. Just watch him up close, he is so focused and determined and you can see in his face just how much getting a win means to him. Its time to just see Lee as a proper right back and not some converted player trying to do a job out of position, that is one thing Lee Mansell is not.
