According to the HE today - Leroy has "emerged as a leading candidate to take over from Russell Slade as boss of League One Yeovil Town"

Oh but Bucks must've been in the running... Mr SG tells us it was so on 'the dark side'! And he's got a very good friend whose in with the Yeovil lot (surely an 'electrifying' thought that just helps 'spark' the debate or maybe i'm being a bit of a 'live wire' in trying to 'fuse' these two fellows together). Funny how his last unsettling piece (Bucks and Lee fall out; Bucks to leave; Melhuish tells all) was also sourced from someone who had an axe to grind with Torquay United? How coincidental...

The statement by the the Chairman John Fry that honesty and commitment. I had a good chat with some in the know yeovil fans today, they claim that the club has not been looking for a new manager as it was sorted before they sacked Russell Slade, it is being said that the sacking was due to fixing his expenses, mind you did we not hear that excuse used by another club who have money problems. While I do not know how true it is, Slade's name was not very popular with the people I talked with, it was felt that as the club has some money problems, such and act is inexcusable.

I'm glad it was you who brought this to light Leigh, and not I. However....................... Seeing as it is "expenses" that are being highlighted by Dave in his post today on this thread, who better than Mr Milton to be the "conduit" of information for S ausage G eezer's ventriloquist for isn't it he who has departed both OUR club AND Yeovil following similar disputes?

When was the last time they brought us a genuinely exclusive and contentious piece of sports journalism? They just dawdle along in the comfort zone and don't even bother to research the night's news before cobbling their work together...................hell's bells - they could even have got that info off this forum before making tits of themselves!

The Herald Express have been sinking to their lowest ever levels of incompetence, laziness and complacency for a long time now. When was the last time they brought us a genuinely exclusive and contentious piece of sports journalism? They just dawdle along in the comfort zone and don't even bother to research the night's news before cobbling their work together...................hell's bells - they could even have got that info off this forum before making tits of themselves! I do wonder what time the Herald Express goes to press these days given I can buy it in Exeter at six in the morning. Apart from the days when it's a case of "Hold the back page!" to accommodate a match report, the paper is now routinely trumped by the Western Morning News for the up-to-date stuff. I believe all four papers are now printed at the same works so I suspect the Torbay, Exeter and Plymouth "evenings" are dusted off before the WMN. All in the name of economics I guess. Whenever the Herald Express ceased to become an evening paper I bet the readers weren't informed. When in Preston recently I recalled reading in a Monday evening edition of the Lancashire Evening Post that we'd been drawn - at midday in time-honoured fashion - to play Carshalton Athletic in the FA Cup. That would have been squeezed on to the back page (along with the usual " It's all been downhill since Tommy Finney retired" tosh) by mid afternoon so I could read it on the way home. A different age, of course, when an evening paper's failure to cover this type of news would mean a wait until the next day. You wouldn't now get that sort of updated afternoon news too often. A few months ago there was a 4am fire in Exwick which didn't make the Express and Echo at all that day. The next day's paper was full of boasts as to how the paper's website had been updated on a hourly basis to carry the news. That's the way it's going and, if what has happened in Bath becomes the norm, we'll soon be kissing goodbye to the idea of a daily Herald Express anyway. What price it soon becomes a weekly? Whatever the paper's shortcomings that would be a shame. If it remains a daily, it'll be interesting to see what style of reporting follows Dave Thomas's eventual retirement. Dave has been a Torquay United institution over the years but you sense it'll be the end of an era when he retires. With forums, the web, official sites, tabloidisation and news management it's all a far cry from the Saturday evening "buff" and cries of "racing, half times, snow at Newton Abbot".

like many things Rob there are different stories of what has happened, as I would suspect what I heard came from the same person who might have told merse, I feel it has more than a good chance of being correct, but then to be honest its history now

Barton I do not know why I still get Carol to buy the paper everyday for me, I can read it on line, maybe its just that I have always bought it daily. It does need to drop the evening as it sure is not that anymore and as we know the news is always a day old when we get it.
It was better a few years ago, then there was two everyday and you could get the latter edition in the afternoon, mind you the new front page story would be the one used for the next day early one.
What will happen when DT gives it up? we will talk capitalgull into moving back to this wonderful place known as Torbay and get him to be the new sports editor and reporter. ;D

Believe me Dave, if they paid me enough I would happily take a job there, but having applied for one there previously and almost having laughed at the wage on offer, it simply won't happen.
I'd be more likely to become an astronaut!
Doubt they would want anyone that couldn't drive anyway, so that would rule me out of things...unless Merse teaches me properly!

Believe me Dave, if they paid me enough I would happily take a job there, but having applied for one there previously and almost having laughed at the wage on offer, it simply won't happen. The crunch is coming for publications like the Herald Express in the provinces and the Evening Standard in London. Hard copy (actual newspapers) is already well outsold by Internet "hits" and much more expensive to produce and as it is, provincial papers have long been the development and training ground for the nationals. Whatever the future might hold for hard copy that is sold on the streets and how soon (sooner than many appreciate?) it arrives, we do not know but one thing is clear and that is that there is no excuse for sloppy journalism like the "Rosenior Story" - even more so when an Internet feature can be "taken down and replaced" as easily as you or I can do so on this forum. It's obvious that the HE either employs no-one to be the "night editor" or if they do, then the person concerned is not doing their job properly.........................I put the Skiverton story on here at 4.15 am yesterday and I got it from the overnight BBC Sport/Football site, so whoever put the "Rosenior Story" on the HE had clearly not done their homework. Andy Charles is a free lance "Internet journalist" working at the largest news corporation in the world, he doesn't need to be looking to take a significant drop in income to go "back to the training ground". Granted, he cannot drive and I would venture that his navigating skills occasionally leave something to be desired; but he makes a bloody good "thesaurus" when this old man needs him ~ and any guy who loves real ale and good food in wonderful pubs around the country, AND going racing - to say nothing of being a Torquay United supporter - has got to be top notch in my opinion! By the way, how many other "journos" are you aware of who appear on this forum................there are one or two who probably don't wish to reveal their actual identity; but I can think of at least one TV commentator, one national feature reporter, and one national sports writer who contribute to the TFF, * and of course there is a decent contingent of competent "amateurs" or "lay writers" who help maintain THIS site as the quality Torquay United forum. * Oh, AND the astronomy writer of The Times and occasional "stand in" for Patrick Moore on TV no less...................I bet you see more stars through your telescope than you ever do in the BSP - eh Chris?
