I had to ask myself today a question, why when I went out on a cold night and spent hard earned money, only to see my team lose the game and fully deserved too may I add, did I not come home and post that our manager needs to go.
Was it to do with my age I asked, or have I just learned over the years that you can't always win and that I should always try and look at the whole picture and not just the events that happen on one such cold night. Maybe its just the sort of person I am anyway, one who will just take the time to think things through properly and not just shout out the first thing that comes into my head.
While I believe it is for both of those reasons, I also feel that what has been going on in my life with Carol has also played a big part in how I now react to things and how I deal with them. I do know now that some things in life really are not as big or as important as I once believed they were and that such events are never going to be live changing for me, or anyone else for that matter.
I know I was up for work at 4.45am on Tuesday and worked as I aways do with no breaks during the day, I never ever stop even for a lunch break, I just set off from my company's base and drive to all my calls and do that until I find myself back in Newton Abbot. I also know it was 1am when I turned of my PC, but then once I get on here, its hard to get me off but I went to bed happy, the forum had some good reports and all the posts were in my view sensible ones and not the knee jerk type ones you might read elsewhere.
Some people will just shout off their mouths when ever things go wrong anyway, always before they have had the time to look back and reflect on what really has happened and just what it will all mean in the end, I do wonder if later when they read what they posted before, if they now wish they had not done so, maybe they can see the posts just look foolish and have been posted with no logical thought processes ever taking place.
Last season every one looked for excuses why we did not go up, some blamed too many cup games and the team was said to be jaded and worn out and then lost important league games that might have taken us up as champions. Others blamed Bucks for making in their views to many mistakes, even I will put my hand up on that one and state I feel he got the team and tactics all wrong in our play-off semi final.
What we do know and has been shown so well in Andy's charts is, that we did not produce the same form and results in the second half of last season as we did in the first half of the season, yet this season it has been so different. We started badly by our standards and even had one thread running about a relegation battle as the poster said it sure felt like it at the time.
Then things improved and we went on a record winning run and it looked like we would top the table and by Christmas be where we were the season before, only this time I think fans were hoping we would really carry on that form into the second half of the season.
It was not that many games ago really when we could have gone above Burton, but now at least it seems ages ago and the gap really must be too big now I fear, for us to go up as champions.I feel that most fans have excepted that now and have settled for a place in the play-offs, the defeat at Southport never got the reaction you might have expected, simply because for many it would mean we could just concentrate on the league.
There lies the problem I feel with last nights result, fans just want to believe we will still go up via the play-offs and see the defeat has a major blow to our chances. The pressure will be on the team ever more now I feel, as we are no longer in any cups, some fans will just expect us to win every league game, but it does not work like that as we all know.
Even if the club had pushed the boat out and got in three or four top signings in the transfer window and risked the club going under, due to the increased costs etc, no one could offer any guarantees it would buy us the success we all want. You only need to look at some top flight teams to see that policy is so flawed and so we may just have to except that we may be in the BSP for a few seasons more.
I'm sure the team and club will do all they can to make it happen this season, but then so are all the other teams and clubs around us in the league and apart from hard work out on the pitch, luck will also play its part. Buckle has brought us this far and must be supported by the fans to get on with his job, he at the end of the day will be the one who carries the can and his results will decide his future in the game.
One game and one defeat do not make or break a season, we still have much to play for and must learn to take any defeat on the chin and move on to the next game. Its far better than making demands to have Buckle sacked, It won't happen, well not this season anyway and one would hope he is learning from all that is going on and will be a better manager for it.
