link - I think Wotton would be a very good fit for us although I do know that he did sign a contract extension last November, not sure if that was for one or two years, but possibly the latter. (See link)


link - another manager that has been linked with us is former player Tim Sills who has done very well at the two clubs he has managed so far. Good article in the Dorset and Echo back in February where he is looking at a full-time management role. Back then, he only saw our club as one in turmoil with ownership issues but these have now been resolved. While still relatively inexperienced as a manager, particularly at our level, he does seem to be up-and-coming and having Neil Warnock on the board to draw down both upon his experience and contacts in the game could work with him.

It could well be someone else about which there has been no speculation and we are likely to find out on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the pressure of having to get the deal done in just 10 days it is good that the new ownership has got to the stage where they are looking to imminently appoint and announce the manager and no doubt this is partly due to having someone of the caliber of Warnock, who is able to focus on football matters. He will also be able to advise on whether to re-sign any of our players having watched them during the last three home games of the season. However, both managers mentioned above, sat in the opposition dugout against our team last season so from both of their perspectives, would not be going in blind in this respect.

I agree entirely. I would very much doubt that Neil Warnock would value a manager for the reason that he has played for the club before. He might value a manager who coincidentally has played for us but that is a different thing entirely.

Wotton has played for Warnock so it would not surprise me in the least if it was he who is appointed tomorrow.

You would have thought a former chair would know better, particularly after the last scoop went south but we will know for sure when officially announced this afternoon.

The Bryn Consortium, which has agreed to acquire Torquay United subject to creditor approval, is delighted to confirm the appointment of Paul Wotton as First Team Manager.

Wotton joins Torquay from Truro City where he enjoyed five successful seasons, including winning promotion to the National League South in 2022. He was formerly assistant manager at Plymouth Argyle.

“Following a meticulous search, the Consortium Board agreed that Paul’s credentials and vision were most closely aligned with our own and he will arrive at Plainmoor as part of a restructuring of the football set up at the Club,” said Mark Bowes-Cavanagh, in-coming Co-Chairman.

Devon-based Wotton has signed an initial three-year contract and will formally take up his post once the Bryn Consortium assumes day-to-day operations of Torquay United upon creditor approval of the CVA.

I think I’m in a minority in feeling a little underwhelmed by the appointment (his Truro team looked a poor second to an Aaron Downes coached TUFC) but Paul Wotton will have my support and the new owners certainly deserve it for what they have already brought to the club. The presence of Neil Warnock is a reassuring and exciting element to this new era and hopefully it will provide access to some decent players rather than bringing in half of Truro’s team which would possibly be my main worry. good luck to Paul Wotton!
