It's a valid point that the administrators are currently in standby mode as opposed to actually organising the sale of the club. So, if Clarke Osborne is still the owner of the football club via Riviera Stadium Limited, then why the heck are voluntary donations provided by the Yellow Army ( TM) and various other parties being used to pay the wage bill? torquayunited.com/supporter-update-20-03-24/Osborne has a moral (and probably legal) obligation to pay his employees, and while many clubs fail to do so because they are effectively skint, that is one thing you cannot say Osborne is. The conniving snake has thrown one of his companies to the wolves (yes that's TUFC Ltd), then refused to pay his staff. What an utter shite*. *Other descriptions are available...

Some of the anti-trust propaganda has stepped up a notch over the last 72-96 hours with challenging views to the hostile narrative censored on social media, baseless accusations spread with renewed vigour and fans even being asked if they are a member to assess their ‘credentials’. Many will have seen what the rumours have morphed into over on BTPIR and seen the almost universal rejection of the theory posited that TUST have scared one bidder off by demanding a majority decision making role.
To the large majority on there this lacks any credibility whatsoever, as illogical as it appears to be. However, it will not stop the anti-trust pro Edwards mob redoubling their efforts to set fan upon fan both on social media and at matches. Clearly negotiations are reaching a difficult period, but the leaking of such rumour smacks heavily of someone not inclined to engage with fans and TUST as being very much involved as a bidder.
Whilst all things being equal - which they probably aren’t - I can’t see beyond Osborne’s preferred bidder being his protege, George Edwards, with Osborne perhaps lurking in the background as a ‘development opportunities’ advisor, I am concerned with these ‘leaks’ that we might be approaching some sort of Groundhog Day if a certain bid succeeds given the content of those leaks.
Dave Phillips, when rumour started circulating Edwards might be a bidder, posted he had been told Edwards was not a bidder. But given NDA’s had been signed at that point, for me, it rather pointed to the opposite and the desire to ensure someone put the message out that he was not.
I do so hope once Osborne is gone we can look to a more positive era of engagement of fans and for fans’ voices to be heard and represented. But someone currently within the process seems determined to spread reasoning why that shouldn’t be so - pitting fan against fan for their own agenda - and that is naturally concerning.

It is not just nature that abhors a vacuum Rob, speculation is always going to be rife, but there does seem to be a lot of shit flying around at the moment. I think most fans do get what TUST stands for and it is not that difficult to grasp really and I am confident that you wouldn’t be displeased with what has been done so far on behalf of members and the wider community.

Yes, clearly some will fill a vacuum with rumour and deliberate misinformation. ‘Twas ever thus, Rob.
I am very pleased that fans representation is being voiced and heard within this process and that bidders have sought to speak with TUST as an organisation of 750+ fans. That very much appears to be a view shared by a great many prepared to write on the subject. Tireless work of volunteers to ensure this is very much appreciated by me. It can only be a positive as I see it, and about time too, given how things have been under Osborne/Edwards these past few years.
The very vocal small minority that seek to discredit TUST at every turn for even the most spurious of reasons do seem to be upping the hostile ante right now, though, and for me that is a concerning turn of events. It’s sad that some seem determined to skew the agenda in such a manner. Partly owing to the divisive message they are peddling, but also in no small part for the aggressive way in which they seek to do it.
Bully boy tactics with fellow fans is something other Clubs have experienced where divisive owners are in situ. And it’s only ever those loyal to an existing regime that commence and recruit such behaviour in those many examples myself and others will be aware of. It is distressing to think it might continue here at our beloved Club.

I’ve been a member of TUST from the start. I have every confidence in TUST officers, who are giving up a lot of their free time to do the best for the club we love. I feel guilty that I haven’t put myself forward for more hands on support at recent AGMs, but I have a very full on voluntary post at our local NHS Trust at the moment. All I want out of this is a long term secure future for the team that I have supported since the 1960s, preferably without anybody from the Osborne era hanging around Plainmoor like a bad smell.

It’s been a week since the last TUST statement, hopefully should be in a position to release another update within the next 24 hours.

A BRIGHT YELLOW FUTURE
TUST is working in partnership with a group of business people who are long-standing supporters on a plan to save and rebuild our football club. This will involve a call to arms to raise further funds with details to follow in due course.
*************************************************************** The last five weeks have been an incredibly stressful time for all supporters as we face the very real possibility that our beloved football club could cease to exist. As far as we are aware, the option of somebody being prepared to single-handedly shoulder huge losses going forward is not on the table. But after a period of intense work behind the scenes, TUST is pleased to announce an exciting proposal which it believes will lead to a bright, sustainable future for the club if our bid is successful. Since Clarke Osborne’s announcement of his withdrawal from the club on 22nd February, we have been in discussions with several potential owners. We are now working in partnership with a consortium of passionate businessmen who are all long-standing supporters. Together, we are of the opinion that it is possible to rescue the football club. With this in mind we have submitted a bid, as a TUST-led consortium, to take on the ownership of Torquay United. The objective of the partnership is to create a successful and sustainable fan-owned club with a sound, sensible financial foundation. Initially, the club would become partially fan-owned, with TUST being the vehicle for this fan ownership, and the remaining shareholding being held by a group of investors who are experienced business professionals or successful entrepreneurs. It is our hope and ambition that by the start of next season, the fans would own half of the club. It is important to note that the long-term vision of both the investors and TUST is that the club ultimately becomes 100% fan-owned. TUST have access to the Forever Yellow Fund, which currently stands at £60,000, some of which will form part of the required funding for us to “buy into” the club alongside the investors. As fans we will need to raise further funding over the next few weeks, approximately £150,000 as a minimum, to fulfil our obligations as part of the partnership to stabilise and reset the football club. We envisage that this will happen through a Community Share Issue but will confirm the details of this in the coming few days. The consortium believes the fund-raising target is both realistic and achievable, given the precedent set by other clubs who have found themselves in our position. Examples include Hereford FC, whose supporters’ trust raised £289,000 for 50% of their club in 2022, as well as Newport County, who raised £195,000 in under four weeks in 2015. The business and investor group working alongside TUST is led by Michael Westcott, a life-long fan and season ticket holder with strong family ties to the club, He is joined by fellow fans Mark Bowes-Cavanagh, Simon Robinson, Andrew Beaulieu and Tom Allen. Joe Lovell has also joined the working group to help develop the strategic plans to secure the immediate future of the club. The group will draw upon their considerable business and commercial experience and a variety of skills and expertise to ensure that we can move forward in a sustainable and community-led fashion. The consortium members would be contributing a considerable sum to kickstart the project. We should stress that the people involved are genuine fans and are not in this for their egos, personal gain or any reason other than a desire to save the club and build a brighter future. Indeed, they have no expectation of a return on their investment. The consortium group is by no means a closed shop, and so should anyone reading this also be willing to help, please contact TUST and we will introduce you to the group. Implementing a sustainable model Fundamental to plan is a belief that the existing cost structure of the Club is unsustainable at National League South level. The consortium has identified several areas where services and engagement with both supporters and the local business community can be significantly improved. We strongly believe that the promise of “a club owned by us all” provides a great incentive to leverage the benefits of human capital through the work that volunteers can do. Our friends at Exeter City and other community-owned clubs have seen the rewards from this in practice. In addition, with the knowledge and business experience of the investors, the group are developing a new commercial plan for immediate implementation to improve commercial revenue streams to strengthen the financial position of the club while improving the match-day experience for all. To achieve the long-term plan, it will be necessary for changes to be made as to how the club operates and is managed both on and off the field. The new Board and its advisors will work to agree a realistic budget for next season and to deliver the group’s business plan over successive seasons in the medium-term. At this stage the above is only a high-level summary of the TUST led consortium’s vision. But all involved believe that it can deliver a major upturn in the club’s future and lead to a stronger, sustainable, fan-owned and community focused football club. We will, of course, be providing more detail if our bid progresses to the next stage and will consult TUST members before making a final commitment to this proposal. The TUST board are confident that it offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and will be supported by the vast majority of you. Finally, it must be noted that if our bid is successful the completion of this proposed acquisition of Torquay United is subject to the satisfactory completion of full-scope due diligence and approval of football authorities including the National League and the Football Association.

I think this is a very positive outcome with TUST being able to pull together most of the local interest in running the club into a cohesive consortium when it was not viable to proceed on their own. The club is losing a million a year on a two million turnover without the results to match and not only is this not sustainable but extremely off putting for any investor, even those with the equivalent of a lottery win in their bank account and I don't think there is a sugar daddy out there. If this goes ahead then a lot of hard work to come, first to stabilise and then to build.

Yes, that does all sound really promising, Rob. And no doubt as a result of a lot of hard work.
I see Edwards is keen to get the message out today on the OS that there is more than one bidder. Standard. Won’t reveal that he may be part of a bid, though.
Given Devon Live mused first at Edwards potentially being a bidder, do any of the local press feel like asking him this question? They could always print his refusal to comment or otherwise?

I have much admiration for the way TUST has gone about their business these last few weeks resulting in a very credible plan and offer. I'm guessing the club will have to go into administration before the administrator can advise who's offer to accept and believe Osbourne, personally would have no say in this or am I mistaken? When all is eventually revealed and out in the open there may be some difficult choices and decisions to be made but one thing is for sure and that is TUSTS hard work will secure the future of the club if others drop by the wayside. The football club will have to be run sustainably in the long term unlike the last five seasons of living way above our means but I see huge untapped potential for the raising of funds if there is enough will, imagination and support to do so. Ideas from any quarter to raise funds have to be listened to. The communication break down with the club over the last five seasons has been shocking. The secret society clandestine approach has thankfully already changed for the better and must continue to improve.
What I just do not understand is the negativity displayed by some and who can simply have no grasp of the realities that the club are now facing. TUSTS hard work, and indeed all of those involved need to be applauded and not vilified.

Not only important to get at least one credible bid out there, but sets the bar for anything else that may be in the offering. Personally, I would be surprised if GE was involved but maybe he feels he has unfinished business?

Administration I suspect will occur next Thursday, if the club is not sold by then at which point your thinking is correct. Many have indeed dropped by the wayside and good that TUST now have a plan to save the club as opposed to a Phoenix option, which in discussions over these past few years, always felt like the more likely scenario.

Echo that regarding Pete’s post. Well said.
I know you (Pete) frequent YA Facebook that Horler removed me from, so am guessing the negative commentary is on there from the usual suspects. The views of the same few on that heavily edited and censored page are thankfully not the view of most, it seems, however hard they try to enforce the continued hostile narrative. Stefano mentioned elsewhere that they even removed TUST’s statement at one point. I assume that got rectified as that would just be too ridiculous even for Horler.
I have read elsewhere that TUST membership hit the 800 mark today. Also good news when years of vilification from a failed regime can’t have helped matters.
It is very reassuring tonight to know there is something available as an option to secure our future that has the support of TUST and local business. I thank all for their efforts on our behalf as it has been a horrible few weeks without such hope being clearly apparent. I will certainly chip in my bit when/if the time comes around to do so.
