As we look to keep our winning run going, we play a side that we have already lost to earlier in the season so hopefully we can turn that around today. Hope to be back in time for this game as I am just about to go on the Cardiff university run! link TUFC match preview

Paul Mulhern is by far the best commentator on our games on Radio Devon. I simply cannot understand why he is sometimes relegated to second spot and replaced by idiots, as is the case today.

Yes he's very good, but I suppose he's given the summariser role because he's the only one equipped to fulfil that role. Why two from each side are needed with the Beeb trying to save money I've no idea. Personally I'd like one person from each station giving a joint commentary given a try. If they had an on air row even better!

To play Devil's Advocate, if I were the owner of Torquay United I'd be wondering why the fans want Gary Johnson sacked. We are 2nd in the league and top of the six-game form guide. We are 7 points behind Yeovil and we are gaining a point per game more than them over that six-game period. In 8 games time we will be top!! I know only too well that there are lies, damned lies and statistics and that all of what I have written above is of no relevance to any game. But the fact remains that it is better to be top in April than in December.

As you say, an on air spat over a contentious decision would liven up a dull game.

All that you say about our recent progress is music to everyone’s ears and it has to continue. The fact remains that we are a big club (in terms of history and stadium) and we need to extradite ourselves from regional football asap. However, we should never have found ourselves here in the first place. And that we are is due to mismanagement on and off the field.

Really glad I got to see this game with my son although it was a close run thing as I can’t have missed an accident westbound on the M4 by much, passing the wreaked car just being towed away and the long queue of stationary traffic on the return leg. As it was, walked into the ground dead on the 3 o’clock mark only to see that the match had started a minute early!
Good game to watch, although wasn’t so sure after 11 minutes when we were two down courtesy of a stone wall penalty and a poorly defended corner. However, it took another 11 minutes to draw level with Hanson cleanly striking a loose ball home and Archer bundling another loose ball in off a defender after some good work by Williams. While both sides had good chances throughout the game with both keepers, making some good saves, thought our more mobile players were able to carve out the better opportunities and we fully deserved the win.
Really good to have Jenkins-Davies back in the side and gives our midfield some much-needed energy particularly in the absence of Lapslie. While Johnson made clear the reason for his substitution, thought that our play lost some energy after he went off and it is good that he is able to play the full 90 minutes from here on in if necessary. We do lose McGavin for the Taunton game after a very harsh and late second yellow card, if it was for the foul, he had the wrong man and if it was for kicking the ball away, then really?, He was playing the ball away under pressure from a tight situation and given very little time from when the whistle was blown.
I was actually pretty confident that we would get a late winner with the Hemel goalkeeper, struggling in the wet and greasy conditions, and unable to cleanly punch the ball away on several occasions as we ratcheted up the pressure. If I had to be slightly critical, too. many of our crosses were floated high for their big defenders to head away and when the goal did come, it was a lovely placed ball hit hard and low with Moxey doing well to get on the end of it after a couple of very slight deflections to blast it into the roof of the net before sliding into the post.
Thought the ref was OK and we have had him previously this season but perhaps too ready to reach into his pocket for a yellow, given the difficult playing conditions. However, clear momentum for the side, which is crucial for the congested fixture list coming up. Will be helpful for a few of our injured players come back and make a difference. Need to keep the pressure on Yeovil who certainly have hit a rough patch.

Just watched the highlights on Youtube. So sad to see the ground so sparsely populated. The next YouTube clip which popped up was equally disappointing....an away fan criticising the quality of the Plainmoor hamburgers. Hope to see improvement in both in the new year.

He seemed to think that every foul was a booking and apparently showed 11 cards. Didn’t he also at one point book one of our players for not kicking the ball away, but not stopping the ball and letting it roll past him?

A good summary of the match Rob although I would disagree that the ref had a good game. He seemed to think that every foul was a booking and apparently showed 11 cards. Didn’t he also at one point book one of our players for not kicking the ball away, but not stopping the ball and letting it roll past him? I wasn't at the game so I can't comment on any particular event but in the interests of balance I would like to say this. A booking for kicking the ball away is actually a booking for "delaying the restart of play". The Laws state that: "Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by: • appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to a team-mate to take, • delaying leaving the field of play when being substituted, • excessively delaying a restart, • kicking or carrying the ball away, or provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play, • taking a free kick from the wrong position to force a retake. "So while it doesn't actually say so, it could be that the referee felt that, by letting the ball roll past him, a player is deliberately delaying the restart. Context is everything, so if that incident happened in the first 22 minutes of the match then the ref is an idiot for thinking we were trying to delay the restart when we were 2-1 down. If it happened after 89 mins then the ref would be absolutely correct to think our player was trying to hold out for the win. Anywhere in between then he is being pedantic unless he has already warned the player concerned and, of course, the fans are the last to know if that happens in a game... Incidentally, goal celebrations involving the crowd used to be a cautionable offence under the "delaying the restart" heading, but these days they have a separate clause: "Players can celebrate when a goal is scored, but the celebration must not be excessive; choreographed celebrations are not encouraged and must not cause excessive time-wasting. Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but players should return as soon as possible. A player must be cautioned, even if the goal is disallowed, for: • climbing onto a perimeter fence and/or approaching the spectators in a manner which causes safety and/or security issues, • acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way, • covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item, • removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt."A booking "even if the goal is disallowed". Boy, that would be a sickener!

Our average attendance this season...2,258 Yeovil...3,394 On 12th August we had 2733 for the visit of Worthing with 105 away fans, so home crowd was 2628. This Saturday we had 1861 for Hemel with 35 away fans so home crowd was 1826. 800 home fans have given up going to Plainmoor so far this season. It will be interesting to see the attendance for Truro on Boxing Day; a 3000 crowd and a home win might bring a lot of them back...

I think the penultimate weekend before Christmas usually sees a low crowd and Hemel Hempstead FC are hardly opposition to set the pulses racing.
It will be interesting to see whether our recent run of good form lasts as it will become increasingly challenging to maintain it if the team is weakened even further by the suspension of McGavin (who has been our standout player lately) and the rumoured return of Williams to Fleetwood. I suspect we will have another bad run at some point and a defeat at Taunton really would be a new low.
I see there is a pitch inspection for this evenings game at 1.30pm and part of me hopes it is postponed to give our players chance to recover plus I don’t fancy getting a drenching like I did at WSM.
