A tough home game against third place Bath City although only 3 points separate us showing how tight the league is with the exception of Yeovil. We do have the two Fleetwood loanees which may compensate us somewhat for the loss of Jarvis particularly if Lapslie is back to give us a bit more bite in midfield. A win very much required before the Yeovil game on Tuesday. link - TUFC match preview

Any news of a pitch inspection today? I would have expected one after all the wet stuff! Plymouth Albion for me today v Blackheath (the oldest independent rugby club in the world!). I love those sort of claims! No chance of my game being off the rugger buggers will play on anything, and guess what I can pay on the gate the same £14 admission as I would have paid if I bought the ticket in advance! That is a novel idea! ⚽️🏉

Big question is whether Halstead starts. Looked like he took a real knock to the head at Hampton but I expect Johnson has a good old 70s take on concussion protocol. Chuck a bucket of cold water over him, a nice does of smelling salts and tell him to get on with it. A few seasons ago he was knocked out in a game at Plainmoor, started the next game and ended up passing out in the dressing room at half-time. For me, if there is any doubt whatsoever we should start with Lovett. Don’t like having no keeper on the bench but if he isn’t fit…..
If Lapslie and De Silva are ready, in addition to a Williams, we could be in a position to leave Thomas, Crowe and Hanson out of the 16.
Shape has not felt right since Jenkins Davies left. He did a decent job floaty left midfield in the lopsided 4-3-3 / 4-4-2, but without him it does not work with neither Collins nor Ash knowing what they are supposed to be doing.
I hate playing wingbacks when you have the likes of Crowe, Wyatt or Martin there, but we did well at the end of last season with Stobbs and Collins wide.
I would go back to that and play Dolan free behind Williams and Ash. With those two up front, we need to play the ball into channels for them to run into not belt it up to a hold-it-up centre forward because we haven’t got one!
Would love to have Lapslie and Hall as the solid two shielding the back three and Johnson might, out of desperation, be tempted to start with both.
In reality, you will not get two lots of 90 minutes per week out of them both, so might be better to cut your losses and ensure we always have one on the pitch rather than risk ending up with neither. We might need to take that gamble on Tuesday to escape annihilation at the hands of Yeovil.
The trouble is if you start with Hall on the bench, the alternatives are so inferior. McGavin? He would stand around expecting Lapslie to do his running. Craske or Hanson? Neither is good enough really.
How about pushing Donnellan into midfield? Probably the least bad option but it means either Marshall or Craske playing in the back three.
I would have De Silva on the bench with three out of Hall, Craske, Marshall and McGavin and either a keeper or Hanson making up the numbers if Halstead unfit.
But I expect we will persist with an unbalanced formation pandering to McGavin standing around in front of the back four.

Polish goalkeeper brought in on short contract . Halstead will need some time to recover it seems. Lapslie returns. Marshall and McGavin start. Hall and new loan signing Theo William start on the bench.. Just a few tweaks form last week. No recognised striker/target man..
I do know one thing. The majority of fans have now lost patience f things start to go sour at any stage in the next two fixtures Its going to get extremely uncomfortable for Johnson and Downes etc. The narrow tightrope they're walking is getting decidedly shakier. These next two games are pivotal IMHO.

Looks like a wonky 3-3-3 with nobody on the left. No sign of De Silva.

.... or Collins wide left and Ash doing a terrible impersonation of a target man.

60 minutes 0-0 Predict Asa Hall to come on and play as a target man, Williams just on for Ash...

We deserved that as we were the better side overall. If this is a measure, until late on Lovett had had a quiet afternoon with little to do and their keeper was much busier. Both Fleetwood loan lads looked as if they had something to offer and Williams has a good touch and some pace.
By the way, I can offer training in pronunciation of the new loan keeper's surname if anybody, particularly Dominic Mee, needs it. I sneaked off duty for a moment while they were warming up, made him laugh by shouting a word of encouragement in Polish and then had a brief chat with him. He's obviously been brought up over here as he has a full grasp of the language!

I would agree with gateman that we deserved that win. First 25 to 30 minutes we had an embarrassing amount of possession and their keeper pulled out two first class saves with shots from Dolan and McGavin respectively. The only scare we had was when Lovett hurt his knee when clearing a standard back pass away. His kicking game is not great to say the least. Final 15 minutes of the half it was a bit more 50-50 and the Bath City fans gave their team a massive cheer after around 40 minutes when they had an attempt on goal.
In the second half Ash was rightly substituted after 10 minutes. Lapslie went the same way shortly after as I think he was struggling from a foot injury picked up in the first half. Moxey also went down and was feeling the back of his right thigh but think this was more precautionary than anything else. For once, we actually had some players that could make a difference or at least keep the same standards going with Williams coming on for Ash offering significant pace up front. Moxey was replaced by Crask and Hall came on for Lapslie and played being the target man for the last 20 minutes.
We slowly increased the pressure in the second half creating more and better chances, but needed a bit of luck with Donnellan letting fly with an Exocet that just brushed the defender’s head to throw their keeper and find the back of the net.
Conditions were difficult at times today with a very heavy shower in the second half. Bath almost scored before we did with Lovett making a meal of a ball that just dipped underneath the bar. Yeovil on Tuesday will be a step up in level but a good win today against a play off placed side.

I thought we played well today and looked much better than what turned out to be quite a poor Bath side. They didn’t really look remotely threatening until around the 75th minute when it looked like our failure to score while dominant might come back and bite us. Donnellan’s freaky goal was lucky that the Bath defender seemed to glance it backwards but the ferocity of the shot meant the deflection was too much for the keeper.q

As usual good summaries and analysis on here.
The best outcome for me was that I can now at least look forward to the Yeovil game on Tuesday.
