Good news indeed and a decision he has made for many reasons. I'm sure he has enjoyed his time at the club and has been impressed with how it is run and the ambitions the club has.
Having the family settled here has also been a consideration, no matter what some see as problems with the Bay, it still is a good place to live.

Excellent news that he has signed on for another season. He is the one player we miss most when he is out of the side as we do not have anyone to come in as a similar replacement.
In fact I would like us to sign someone as cover during January. Dont want him injured for weeks later on and unable to find a replacement loanee.

Fantastic news he has been outstanding of late and his partnership with Green can only get better.
Sometimes it's not so easy to see why he hasn't been succesful at a higher level but I guess its just a lack of genuine pace that has held up his progress. I would also guess his style, which can appear laid back at times is not to everyones taste. Fortunately the manager and the majority fans can see further than the ends of thier noses and have quickly realised his qualitiies, particularly at this level are of huge benefit to the team, both in attack and in defence.

Excellent stuff. Big well done to the club and Tim Sills. Sills is a talisman - his work rate is immense, his temprament is amazing to get only 5 yellow cards this season (especially considering that he gets zero protection from referees!), his presence is vital to this team. I'm a massive Sills fan.
I feel sorry for those on the internet (not this site, I might add) that have spread muck that Sills might be off and that contract extension talks were breaking-down due to Sill's high demands. Pathetic.

Maybe I should know this, but I don't! Does anybody know who else has their contracts expire in the summer? Is it the majority of the squad or not?

Is it the majority of the squad or not? Both Greasvie and Woodsie's contract are up at the end of the season - not sure who else. |

Pretty sure that Dsane and Robertson are on one year deals. Todd, Benyon and Nicholson probably signed two year deals when we got relegated in 2007.
Cannot think of anyone else. Whatever league we are in next year, the squad is going to have a familiar feel to it. It is probably good enough for league 2 barring a few additions.

Both have been immense recently, especially against Blackpool. But you wonder, especially in Greavsie's case, if they will be offered contracts due to their age. I guess a lot will depend if we get promoted or not. If we do I can't see their contracts being extended. |

Pretty sure that Toddy got a 3 year deal (as did Lee Phillips at the time) when he signed for us from Exeter in the summer of 2007. As far as I can remember I think those of the current squad who are out of contract are Rice, Nicholson, Woods, Robertson, Hargreaves, Dsane and Benyon. |

In Woods case it has taken two relegations and a stark realisation that his future seemed to be heading towards Cornwall for him to finally convince me he was playing at a level where he could be relied upon to be both good enough and consistent enough. In short, he always was a Conference level performer struggling to play at a higher level. Hargreaves is very different, the calender has simply caught up with him and I think a lot of the experiment with him in the back four at the start of the season was with an eye to prolonging a wonderful career in full time professional football whereby his aging legs would carry on for a little bit longer at the back rather than in the engine room of midfield. In short, the club is the familiar January dilemma of all those chasing promotion in that they are obliged by football regulations to either have made an offer to players who's contracts expire in June or face having them free to speak to prospective employers NOW. I would say that promotion would spell the end of Greavsie and Woodsie whilst another season of BSP as a FACT might well tempt the club to offer them another twelve months. There is very little between the BSP and League 2 but the very obvious one is pace, and these two old guys no longer have it. I also reckon that Sills has a pace problem in League 2, but Bucks obviously feels differently but then of course having him under contract also gives the club "something to sell" next season if they feel that he is indeed struggling again like he did at Hereford and Oxford. Maybe too, promotion would prolong the stays at Plainmoor of one or two whilst perversely failure to attain it might see them deemed surplus to BSP requirements. I'm thinking here of players in the Benyon mould who obviously struggle with the intense physical nature of BSP football. |

The thing is a gamble.
Greavsie has another year in him in my view. I thought that old father time would catch up with him but he has proved me SO wrong. I think he can still cut it next year if we did manage to get promoted. He certainly wouldn't be the first old fart to play league football and be effective. As for his contract - I think Buckle can let it run down and assess him and the situation at the end of the year (not fair on him but it's a business). If he's still got the engine then give him another year. Not sure that the pace would be an issue in League 2; we've had pace before and done cack - guile and work ethic will make it up for him.
Woods - has proved me wrong again. Thought his time was over. But not sure that as CB his reaction-time would work in League 2. If (as likely) we're still in the BSP, he could help us get up at the third time of asking. We couldn't put him in the bracket of those content to stay in a league and not try for promotion as they might be surplus to requirements if it did happen, IMHO.
Benyon could come good in non-league or L2, it's just how he develops. He seems a late bloomer but he has a natural goal-scoring ability.
Mind you, I could be talking out of my hat, as I beleived that the Greeks were mad to let Carlisle go as he would have suited the League more than the BSP.
As for Sills - his game has never been about pace but then neither was Alan Shearer's (OK, bit of a nuts analogy but I hope someone can see where I'm coming from).
