Whilst I wasn't at the Lower Mead game with the Gulls, I did see a game there around 1985-86 and I'm pretty sure they were playing Lincoln City in the Conference. ! Alan, you haven't got your brain in gear today. How could Lincoln City have played them in the Conference in 85/86? Were you not at a certain game on May 9th 1987 that actually had a bearing in when Lincoln were to be found playing in the Conference?

my colleague Alex Jackson had a long time business relationship and friendship with a gentleman called Harry (for the life of me I can't recall his surname) who was a travel agent and director of Wealdstone FC. Still got the programme from my 1977 visit to Wealdstone and it lists a H J Benjamin amongst the directors. Is this the man? Lincoln was 87/88 - a 0-0 draw. That's the guy, I kept wanting to put "A Jewish gentleman called Harry" but wanted to be more "PC" than that!

When that "certain game" was being played out I was travelling around some Greek islands (and the Turkish coast)and on the actual day I was in the lovely little town of Lindos on Rhodes where I have since been back and stayed with Cliff Myers who used to have a taverna right on Pallas Beach at the foot of the Acropolis. The Sunday papers didn't get to town until Monday lunch time and so I was in blissful ignorance of it all - in fact I hadn't kept up with any events TU leading up to that game at all....................when I go away and switch off, I do just that I'm afraid!
