Here we go again with a replay but away this time. An away game at Charlton awaits the winner which is good motivation but we need to be a lot better to get anything out of this one. Hopefully Lapslie will be fine to start again. TUFC preview

Here we go again with a replay but away this time. An away game at Charlton awaits the winner which is good motivation but we need to be a lot better to get anything out of this one. Hopefully Lapslie will be fine to start again. We need to be a lot better to get anything out of the replay, and a lot better to get anything out of Charlton. Even a poor League One side is significantly better than we are. I think there could be something to be gained from the Charlton game itself (apart from a decent draw in the second round) especially if the game is somehow chosen for the tellybox. The broadcast money for one of the main live games, which is highly unlikely, is £75,000 per club, however the money for being one of the Sunday extended highlight games was £12,500 per club last season. Charlton's average attendance is 14,000, and they got 11,800 for Accrington Stanley last night. The problem with average attendances is that they include season tickets which usually don't include Cup games. So we have to expect that many Charlton fans won't bother to pay for a game against a non-league side, even if they think they will win by a significant margin. According to FA Cup regulations, the minimum ticket price for games before 3rd round proper is £10 so it wouldn't surprise me if Charlton dropped their usual ticket price from the £23 they are charging Rotherham fans for the game at The Valley on 2nd November to perhaps £15 to try and boost attendance. Although we get 50% of the net receipts, its worth reading the FA Rules on what costs are taken out before those receipts are split. "The net gate receipts due from a match (except replayed matches in consequence of a breach of the Rules) shall be the total ticket sales for the match less:
- VAT,
- the travelling (and possibly accommodation) expenses of the Visiting Club,
- the fees and expenses of the Match Officials,
other match expenses allowed under the Competition Rules which include:
- costs relating to gate attendants,
- turnstile operators,
- stewards,
- police charges,
- floodlighting in accordance with the Competition Rules,
- contributions to the costs of First Aid Helpers
- and any costs relating to clearing the ground of snow and water provided the Visiting Club is consulted beforehand on the approximate costs."
We are likely to get overnight accommodation paid for as we would need to leave Torquay before 8am to ensure getting to The Valley in time, so that is a saving on costs. At a guess: given concession prices, let's say an average of £13 x 8,000 attendance at £104,000 gross would net us maybe £40,000 (I have no idea how much it costs to stage a football match!)? Even £30k net from the game would be welcome, plus the £9,375 from winning tonight, and the dream of £22,629 for beating Charlton. So we stand a chance of netting £50k (£40k Charlton gate receipts - and maybe more - plus £10k 4Q winner's prize) from beating H&W this evening. If GJ seriously has a playing-budget block then he should be fielding the strongest side possible to get a win tonight, and then negotiate a majority of the profit that a game against Charlton would bring the club.

After seeing Saturdays game and the new blokes unable to play tonight, can’t see anything but a defeat ⚽️

No Hall or Lapsie and only 4 subs Under the cosh already.... 26 pros on the books. 4 out on loan, 2 not allowed by parent club to get cup-tied, 4 injured (Hall, Lapslie, Addai and Wright). That leaves 16, but 3 of those are keepers. Not expecting us to name 7 subs, but pretty poor we can't scrape 5 together. No robust midfielder, so don't fancy our chances. ...and the inevitable first goal goes in just as I finish typing. Would like to think we can get something out of this, but the more likely outcome seems to be a bit of a thrashing. Let's hope I am wrong.

How are we set up I wonder?
Must be a back four, but are we 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?
I would go Little and Andrews centre-midfield, Lemon in the hole, Lolos right and O'Connell left. Or is it Lolos up front, O'connell right, Andrews left, Lemon and Little centre-midfield?
Too lightweight either way really.
Is it raining hard enough to hope for an abandonment?

How are we set up I wonder? So we have been a back three with Omar left centre back and O'Connell right wing back. Doomed to fail. Johnson now on for O'Connell, but that is a very thin bit of paper over a massive crack. Very hamstrung by a lack of bodies, but we really are not making the best of a bad job. If you want to play three at the back, which I don't, surely Wynter and Martin as wing-backs and Moxey in the centre is the less bad option.

Johnson on for O’Connell Injury or tactical If you want to play a right wing back, better to use a sub-standard right wing-back than a sub-standard out-and-out winger.

Might even have a starter if you are paying. You should always let the person finish his or her sentence 😢
