A very quick turnaround with the Bank Holiday and while this is accepted in a "normal" season, the logic of this breaks down somewhat with no crowds in a compacted season and for us being the last of 5 games in 13 days this will be a factor if any new injuries are sustained. At least we come into this on the back of 3 homes games while Chesterfield have just played 3 away games. In fact, they have got the worse of the deal as this will be their eighth game in 23 days and of course with the later kick off against Hartlepool on Saturday, less than 44 hours recovery time.
After a confident and top quality display on Saturday, Johnson would probably like to stick with the same XI barring injuries and knocks but it has been reported that Boden will not be eligible to play against his parent club so after a very good 20 minutes will Kimpioka be ready for a start and maybe 60 minutes or alternatively Umerah to start and soften the defence up? Waters played very well on Saturday and showed what he can do but he needs a partner up front to be effective. Our recent success has been down to players coming in and doing a job with Andrews, Waters and Warren putting in good performances and the talented Randell seemingly able to make any position he plays in his own. Cameron and Whitfield are due back from injury in the next week but are unlikely to feature in this game.
After a recent good run of wins, Chesterfield may have had an outside chance of the title or more realistically, a top 3 finish but just one win from the last six games has seen that gone now with a maximum of 74 points available. I think injuries may have played a part with Gavin Gunning last Tuesday joining fellow defender Haydn Hollis out with strikers Tom Denton and Akwasi Asante also long term injured and much talked about new signing Danny Rowe from Bradford yet to score and make his mark. Fraser Kerr is playing for them and of course scored their only goal for them on Saturday, rather that than against us!
22 wins so far this season, 11 away, no doubt helped by no home crowds and would be great to add another one on the road which would also be a double after one of our Gary Time goals against them at Plainmoor way back in October. COYY!
