Problems that have been lurking but not addressed for a very long time after some fortunate early season results and surprising form (that gave the manager and supporters a false sense of security!) have now been highlighted and ruthlessly exposed. Injuries have of course been a factor but even with a fully fit squad we have looked awful defensively and once our ability to score lots of goals faded away this is what were left with yet another embarrassing hammering. The manager and his staff need to take more responsibility and stop blaming players that are obviously not up to standard. Continue to play the same way full backs pushing forward with the opposition getting behind our wing backs every week . I just do not understand the tactics any more. Been here before and Its fast becoming a full blown disaster of a season. Utterly embarrassing but credit to the supporters who were brave enough to stay till the end.
BBC saying only Hall and Whitfield should be spared the hairdryer. Not sure what good the hairdryer will do with this lot now, though. They are shot to bits and there needs to be considerable movement out and in.
Cundy, Medford-Smith, Bansal-McNulty, MacDonald and Edwards should be the first to see the exit door.
He doesn’t fancy Keating, so he can go, too. As can Koszela and Slough out on loan. If he doesn’t fancy Lewis as a centre-back, he may as well go, too. As he is no left back.
A Number 1 and a Number 5 need signing. A decent left back in until the much missed Davis returns - that will be a difficult one to recruit.
Janneh is as good as gone and Reid and his agent may feel now is the right time to step off this wave, so a decent centre forward or two, too.
Pack shuffling for the New Year. Let’s just hope we can pick some points up before then. Hopefully Woking are out of sorts on Saturday.
I wouldn’t dispense of Johnson's services as we won’t get any better.
It was shambolic defending once again with crosses our main undoing although James lost the ball twice to give away two goals and in our fragile state you cannot give away gimmes like that.
The first goal we conceded early on stemmed from a freekick in the Yeovil half that look to all intents and purposes like the Yeovil player had hand balled it but hey ho, Allison saw it differently. It was taken short and the ball was intercepted by James who tried to run it clear but was dispossessed and their player was able to take it deep into our area and knock it back for an easy shot to score from 10 yards out.
Within 10 minutes we had let another two in. A cross from Yeovil’s left to the far post was headed in, reminiscent of the Chesterfield match and a corner also from Yeovil’s left was neatly headed in. We still looked very suspect at the back but made a bit of a fist of things and scored from a wide free kick which was bungled in by Asa. A bit more quality from our own crosses could have made it interesting.
The second half saw Kalala and Nemane come on and actually cause a few problems in one of our better spells of the match with Nemane in particular having some good runs and looking good at times with his low centre of gravity giving him an added advantage in very wet and slippery conditions.
Unfortunately it was Yeovil who were able to score again with two low crosses from the right, putting the ball on the plate for their striker and James also giving the ball away just in front of our penalty area resulted in another goal from his mistake.
Our back line was turned time and time again and looked very slow and again we were lucky Yeovil did not score more. Just to compound matters Kalala had taken a knock just before they scored the fourth goal, possibly to his chest and hobbled off and slowly around the pitch for what could be quite a serious injury. This is likely to have contributed to the fourth goal. Also McDonald was very brave in saving an one-on-one but spent the last 15 minutes playing with an injury sustained in this act further contributing to the fragility of the defence which could have shipped in more . He did give everything to a losing cause while in considerable discomfort.
The two Bens were able to combine later on for another consolation goal but I’m afraid to say the scoreline if anything flattered us! The rejigging in defence only made things worse and Kyle was certainly exposed in the latter stages at left back.
A lot to think about before we reset on Saturday!
The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.
For those who couldn't make it to the Boxing day horror show! You will soon see why we cannot afford to player's in the side who's legs have gone and why we need another keeper unless Covalan can get his arse in gear.
