link - first pro contract for Koszela so well done to him and you only need to look at Janneh to see how you can make the step up to the first team at that sort of age.

Is it me but the way these players are performing now, being under contract is looking like a very good move. Not only does it ensure the squad isn’t broken up for next season but the team spirit, work ethic and motivation is all top class

I think Johnson was aware of the team spirit etc that had developed under his management that he persuaded the club to extend the contracts. |

rjdgull Very much so, and a topic some of us probably read about in the link rjdgull kindly provided for us less than 2 weeks ago. Just to pick up on a couple of key points within that, Gary Johnson stated: "There’s a saying, ‘if you want to motivate players, get players that can be motivated’ and I think that’s very true, so we’ve had to move some aside of course, and bring a couple in, but the other saying is ‘who motivates the motivator?"Not only has Johnson moved out those who have not been good for group cohesion and positivity within the squad, but the club has at last grasped the nettle and realised that by applying the same principle more widely to disruptive or negative influences, and banishing 'organisations' who remain steadfastly determined to talk up the negatives, or who constantly look for a dampener to take the shine off our success. So while the Forums will desperately wish to have a cut off point for motivation ending with Johnson, in reality it doesn't stop there, but is set in train from our Head Quarters in Chew Magna. Johnson of course, could easily have confined himself to exclaiming that he was very satisfied with the backing he was getting. However, his decision to go further and express his clear enjoyment in working for trustworthy and decent bosses, would have been uncomfortably revealing to many, to the extent it went carefully unmentioned upon on the Forums (ttbomk) The whole club continues to benefit from what cascades down from our Motivational Headquarters at Chew Magna. The contrast between Gary Johnson being quite willing to admit this, while the Militants remain stubbornly mute, only emphasises why the steps taken to ensure 'Plainmoor Positivity' will have to be strictly maintained until at least the end of this (promotion) season. The most important contract extension TUFC needs to consider (along with a sizeable promotion bonus) is for George Edwards.  |

link - absolutely Alpine, backed up by this interview with the Chelmsford manager with quotes like they played like a team and were very unselfish in their play. Probably epitomised most of all by Ruairi, his running was superb but set up those goals for a second game in a row and quite rightly the MOTM went to him when usually the sponsor takes note of the goalscorer(s). While not perfect by any stretch, the running of the club has improved significantly and it now being run in a lot more professional manner.

Gary Johnson is rightly popular with both fans and ownership alike. With us as we are top of the League and playing good football. And with ownership as he has done this by reducing money spent on the squad by cutting numbers, getting a couple more cheap and decent loanees and signing up existing players mid season rather than rely on signing on fees for large numbers of new recruits in the summer.
Johnson is a good football club manager. I hope he stays for a while yet. I was unsure re both Sendles-White and Keating re-signing, but with Johnson at the helm, they have both improved from where they were and will continue to do so. We have a decent nucleus from which to build for next year.

That is particularly good news, after the first month or two of the season, I'd estimate there were certainly question marks hanging over the head of players like Ben Wynter and Ruari Keating, but both seem to have made noticeable improvement having benefited from Johnson's coaching. Evidence that Johnson has done far more than import a clutch of talented youngsters from Bristol City. While Wynter's defensive skills will (hopefully) face far more severe tests at National League level next season, and Ruari's temperament (he's still far too easily wound up) needs improving, both players have stuck at it and shown noticeable improvement. A credit to themselves and to the coaching staff.

Did Wynter sign another deal? Edit: Just seen that he did. Agree. Another improved player and decent signing for next season.

With all this improvement evident in our younger players I wonder if a contributory factor in all this is training with a number of similar aged players from a championship club over the best part of a season?
Surely those players both coached to and playing to a higher standard with a good technique are to some extent going to pass on some of this know how. A bit like visiting teams to Plainmoor raising their game, well our lads are raising theirs but on a week in week out basis. Keating, Wynter and even Reid are like new signings and shows what can be done with the right set up, manager and ethos.
Even the crowd is helping. Reid has a penalty saved, then his name is chanted in support and goes on to score shortly after. 😀
