These demands for the removal of statues and TV programmes are going one step beyond ridiculous. What the hell has "Don't Mention the War" to do with "Black Lives Matter"? The episode was removed because of the use of the W and N racial slurs by the Major earlier in the episode , not the 'don't mention The war dialogue. The whole episode is about making bigots look stupid but is a victim to the knee jerk reaction that has happened over the past week. If we want to rid society of everything that has even the remotest connection to racism and slavery then perhaps we should consider closing down all mosques since Mohammed was a slave owner. Some will say that statement is racist but it is consistent with the removal of statues of slavers. We are embarking on a kulturkampf and the results will be unpredictable. In my view it is wrong to single out historical individuals as racist because of views they held. Those individuals were shaped by the morals, values and knowledge of a past age, and cannot be judged by the standards of the present. You are absolutely right about the Fawlty Towers episode and I stand corrected, although the major's comments are simply another example of what you say in your last sentence. I wonder how many modern equivalents of Mary Whitehouse are out there trawling through TV shows of the past seventy years and searching for similar remarks to have removed. For me, one of the saddest aspects of the knee jerk reaction is the fact that the name of Winston Churchill has somehow been dragged into this. It seems that the knowledge of history of many people under 25, who are likely to be those who have defaced his statue, is so poor that they fail to realise that he played a major part in ridding the world of the worst racist of all time. I recently watched a quiz programme in which a young contestant didn't know the name of the place from which British soldiers were evacuated in WW2. Other contestants in similar programmes have immediately jumped on questions about Coronation Street, Eastenders, Big Brother and Love Island, but had never heard of the Cuban crisis or the war in Vietnam. Your reference to "kulturkampf" may well take on a different meaning if these are the types of people who will be governing our country a few decades from now.

Well you are probably right Stewart to be worrying about the type of people who will be governing us in a few decades time - they will have been home schooled by day time drinkers during lockdown! 😉

In my experience of life, no hatred is greater than from a taker to a giver.

Thought provoking picture. The photographer not quite in the league of Hubert van Es...but still a good photo.

Another top quality photograph, shutter speed and focus just right, from our capital city. If it's top level photography and good news stories you want, London is clearly the place to live.

So there you have it.
Some poor sod busting for a piss (we've all been there...no I don't mean that exact spot) who wouldn't have even noticed the sign, gets banged up!
Then you have all the Brainless Morons in Bristol, who have an illegal gathering (Covid 19) an illegal demonstration (Law) unlawfully pull down a statue, and then throw said statue in the river...unlawfully!
What happens to the Brainless Morons in Bristol...well i'll tell you...Nothing-Nada-Zilch-F**k All!
You tell me what's wrong with this country.

Some of you will know that I'm not overly enamored with the Premiershite! Though now, I have to give credit where it's due and say well done to them for distancing themselves from the Morons of BLM! No more Kneeling and Cow Towing! Also good to see that Kim Kardashian is now a Billionaire! Her husband says it's been a long hard struggle for her, so well done to her for taking all the pain and hardships life can throw at you! Of course she would have been a Billionaire a lot sooner, if she hadn't spent all her money pumping Botox into her arse!

Register I'm all for being charitable if an honest mistake has been made, or if there is some other honourable justification. But can't agree that any credit is due to the FA. These guys have set their stall out clearly for many years now, and it's only a short time ago that they even banned Guardiola from pinning a yellow ribbon onto his jacket lapel in solidarity with the Catalan politicians being thrown in jail by the democracy denying Spanish State. No political words, no political slogan, no name of an activist organisation, a simple small ribbon and completely unconnected with the players. Yet it's a totally different approach when far Left Marxist race agitators come knocking, their name gets attached to all the playing kits, all the players need to get on their knees, and it's black power signs on show before the match can get properly underway. Why is Starmer trying to frantically back pedal now ? For the very same reason, i.e he's been informed that the people he's going to need to persuade to vote for his Party take a dim view of his pandering to BLM and their defund the police, destroy the traditional family, down with Israel agenda etc. The FA are also aware of the extent that they are alienating a significant proportion of their paying customers, with suggestions that an increasing number of players are expressing discontent at being used as pawns in the FA's Far Left political games. Consequently it's little surprise that the BLM worshipping BBC are sending out their minions to try and limit the damage on behalf of fellow Leftists. Starmer and the FA are both trying to climb down now that they see it's rebounding on them negatively. Damaging limitation is what we're witnessing in both cases, rather than a creditable rethink

Thought I’d pop in again after a couple of weeks. I see Reg stating that nothing is happening to anyone regarding the Bristol slaver statue and that Premier League players are no longer taking the knee. Surely some mistake. 8 interviewed under caution and counting and taking the knee still happening, while the gammon right continue to spout nonsense on the subject. A powerful moment from Michael Holding yesterday for those who understand. Racists viewing this may prefer to look away. news.sky.com/video/history-is-written-by-the-people-who-do-the-harm-cricket-commentators-view-of-white-privilege-12024274

The police are always arresting people and then quietly releasing them...makes them look good. I should have said previously, that nobody had been banged up for throwing that statue in the river. Unlike the poor guy for just having a piss against the wall.
I saw a young guy once, bawling his eyes out because he’d been bullied. I didn’t take any pictures for bullies to take note sadly!
It happens everyday, people break into tears for various reasons. A Black Cricketer breaks into tears because of racist taunts, a young boy breaks into tears because he’s been bullied, Lilly Allen breaks into tears because she hasn’t been seen on the tele for a while!
Racists are weak, Bullies are weak, Lilly Allen...well she’s just an idiot.
The weakest of all though, are those that continually bang on about Racism!
They do this because they’ve never done anything, will never do anything, they just follow equally weak people as they have done all their lives!

The weakest of all though, are those that continually bang on about Racism! Interesting broad brush that taken to its logical conclusion would prefer the issue silenced, of course. Particularly the silence of those tasked with change or directly effected by the issue. I’d suggest that’s not a good idea for change to occur as a rule. Another good interview at Lunch in the cricket with Makhaya Ntini today.
