Bloody right it makes it OK, do you still work for the Legion? I've tried to get compo from the war pensions people, but failed miserably...but with having someone on the inside! Long retired, Reg, but my contact Mrs Jane Snodgrass (wife, I kid you not, of Colonel Snodgrass of Gratton, near Bakewell, Derbyshire) is still alive as far as I ken. Dag nab it...I was counting the extra sheckles and getting ready to jet off to sunnier climes! Colonel Snodgrass...what a fabulous name!

Know what I mean...nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more!

Rob, you should close this thread. It has no place on this football forum. I appreciate this is a sensitive topic and for the life of me cannot understand why it was agreed there is an amnesty for terrorists in Northern Ireland but not for the soldiers that served there. Having said that, this thread was ironically started by another NI veteran for a wide variety of topics to discuss and I am loathe to lock it unless really necessary but will monitor to see how it pans out and with a bit of luck it may see us go back to the Gnome Liberation Front or similar remotely interesting theme!

It is indeed a very heated topic, especially for the ones who went through it! Even though I have tales of Daring-Do, and stories of Pigs, Saracens, wee Jocks and a woman who fired RPG 7s...I will not tell them here!

As the American writer Coleman Hughes has put it, it assumes there is ‘a heightened moral knowledge’ that comes with being black or female or gay.
Or just maybe there is more knowledge of being discriminated against. I can't understand how anyone could argue that being black, female or gay hasn't historically left someone at a significant disadvantage, nor that it continues to do so in many parts of the world. Has American writer Coleman Hughes not noticed that there has never been a female or overtly gay President? Or that the one black President was subjected throughout his 8 year term to racists accusing him of being African and Muslim? Does he not know that being gay is a capital offence in many countries, including some that buy their bombs from the USA?
There are lots of things to get angry or annoyed about in the world. Only the right wing press and its overwhelmingly white, reactionary readership would consider so-called political correctness to be among the most objectionable.
