The England of 104 years ago seems far more preferable than the England of today! Really?  My ancestors lived in abject poverty, as did the vast majority of the population! I was brought up poor...probably not in abject poverty i'll admit! Spent the first two years of life living in a caravan in a field at the back of White's farm in Shiphay ~ some of you will remember it. Probably all part of a housing estate now! What I'm trying to get across is, even though I was poor and your ancestors lived in abject poverty, it was certainly better then, than it is now! Values ~ family ~ not wanting to go on the X Factor at twelve years old saying 'This is all I've ever wanted!' etcetera, etcetera, etcetera! |

Thanks for clarification on the formation, Jon.
Wingbacks in front of a back three with Hall anchoring worked well at Hungerford. Wynter spent a fair amount of that match as the right centre-back. Perhaps surprising Johnson ever changed that formation even if Owers got nothing exciting from it, particularly given how Edwards and Davis offer so much going forward. Fingers crossed on some decent injury news regarding Edwards and Hall. Good to see Sendles-White back.
As for having Reid on his own up front, I can’t ever see that working well for us. He’s never a lone striker.
BTW, what happened to Sokolik? Came back last week on the bench, then didn’t feature again yesterday?

I'm trying to get across (and failing miserably it seems) the differences between life then and life now! Then: (104 years ago) there was an imminent war coming up! People were living in abject poverty...so we've been told! Even with all their problems they just got on with it. No Benefits no NHS...we don't have much of a NHS at the moment, but at least it's something. Now: Can you imagine the youngsters (or anybody for that matter) of today marching off to the recruiting office! If one actually did turn up, the conversation would go something like this! 'Right lad, are you ready to go to the Somme and face German Machine Guns?' 'The Somme did you say?' 'Sorry, I cannot go there because I will not be able to get a signal for my I Pad!' 'I would only be able to stay there for a few days anyway, because at the weekend I'm going to become a woman called Gladys!' 'Oh, and you know there is nothing you can do about it, because it would be against my 'uman rights!' I hear stories from the locals of the men who used to live here all those years ago...tough as old boots...real characters...real men! Would I like to jump in a time machine, and go back to 1914 with all it's fears and problems, leaving behind all the trappings of this modern era? Too bloody right I would!  |

Shame on you for using remembrance Sunday to squeeze in a brexit whinge. I originally posted a response but deleted it afterwards, as I felt it was pointless to say that the whole Remembrance Sunday thing is just a point-scoring exercise. Today I read this: metro.co.uk/2018/11/11/jeremy-corbyn-criticised-for-small-poppy-pin-and-hoodie-at-armistice-day-service-8127321/Which demonstrates my point perfectly. It's not enough for the poppy fanatics that someone wears a poppy, now they're being criticised for its size and the jacket it is attached to. All this bullshit just debases the whole purpose of Remembrance Day, and why I have no truck with it anymore. It's just hypocritical politicians posturing for brownie points. Yep, read that post, you’re ex army, don’t just remember your mates once a year etc - did not realise you deleted it. |
