Absolutely threw it away a goalie howler and a gutless second half performance gifted them a draw,i suspect GJ is going to be seething, and rightly so.

Very frustrating to only get a point today. I would not have minded if Billericay had earned their two second half goals but sadly we gifted them on a plate. We were outstanding in the first half and gave Billericay a right battering and fully deserved our two goal lead. Torquay carried on in the second half where they left off and hit the post at close range. Billericay still had not had created anything of note. Then a couple of minutes later in the 51st. minute it should have been a routine clearance by keeper MacDonald or our covering defender. Instead MacDonald on the edge of the area headers weakly out straight to a Billericay player who lobs the ball into an empty net. It changed the whole complexion of the game and Billericay's equalizer was another soft goal from a corner. Billericay had a striker on the line closely marked by Niate I believe who were shoving eachother. MacDonald who is not the tallest was effectively blocked by these two behind them. Over came the corner and predictably was headed in by the striker on the line with MacDonald stranded - another soft goal.
Today's crowd of 2,046 was a reasonable turn-out with 60 odd from Billericay. I thought the Yellow army did its bit today creating a decent atmosphere. I thought Billericay's support was pretty poor, there were no club colours or flags on display, no singing and they looked stood there in a cluster looking drab in the away end. Lemonheigh-Evans deserved to be sponsors MOTM and ran the show in central midfield in the first half. Both Torquay's goals were well taken, the first was from a corner floated to the back post, Cameron won the header and was stabbed in at close range by Niate. The second was scored on the stroke of half-time following a free-kick on our right. The ball was floated over, ran loose and Janneh swivelled and scored hitting the ball low.
The third goal was always going to be decisive and after that calamity Torquay never re-discovered their rhythm. The game got very stop and start and ended up as a farce. After Billericay's equalizer which was not really deserved, they had a player sent off for his second yellow. Then came all their delaying tactics especially from keeper Julian who took ages with every goal kick and their player strolling off the pitch after being sent off. Julian finally got a yelow card in added time but that was too late. The referee I'm afraid had a poor game often losing control of the match.
There were plenty of positives today and if we did not self-destruct we should now be celebrating a win. I thought our standard of football was far superior and we also had key players out injured today. Lemonheigh-Evans really stepped up to the plate and Janneh looked dangerous at times. There was excellent pace and movement in the first half. Sadly it's points that ultimately count and today and against Weston on Tuesday we were incapable of seeing out winning positions. We don't want to end up as a "nearly" team with loads of good play but not finishing off opponents.

As they say don’t post when you’re angry, been drinking or that f**k**g dancing bollocks in on, but here goes.
This result and accompanied with the WSM result is 4 points lost and not what a promotion team should expect, even with several players out with injury. We still need a big CF who can offer something different. I think I must be alone in thinking this.
To go in 2 nil up was a far summary of the first half despite the some of the Billericay born referee’s decisions - thought we had a good shout for a penalty when one our the players was held back, couldn’t see what Reidy was booked for diving despite obvious contact. Still 2 nil up eh.
Thought the game changed when we didn’t put that ‘on a plate chance’ away to make it 3 nil. Minutes later McDonald headed out to their big CF who made it 2 – 1, shortly to become 2 – 2.
The ref seem to lose it completly when their CF got sent off and seemed to refuse to leave the field followed by the dwarf Deering not going off when his number was called up, their number 2 picking up the ball and not allowing a quick throw in and what is the point in booking their ‘keeper for time wasting in added on time when he’s ‘been at it’ all game. Billericay seem to celebrate like they’d won the league at the end. Deering should have been given a second yellow and red therefore stopping their sub from coming on. Start doing this and they won't again.
I'm sure there's folk who are clapping the way Billicary approached the game after going down to 10 men. Down to the ref and no one else. Wish I'd been the ref at a similar game today. Total bollocks.
Big CF needed or we’ll be here this time next season

Floridagull You've got a better excuse for not attending than most of us, FG. We realise you'll currently be down on the border waiting to do your bit in repelling the druggies, criminals, and various other George Soros financed invaders (allegedly) threatening to smash their way illegally into the U.S. It's always disappointing and frustrating to sacrifice a 2-0 half time lead, especially at home, even if the opponents are the league leaders. However, Johnson will be aware that he inherited a very good Torquay defence, whose inclination just a fortnight ago when 3-0 up at half time, was to concentrate on holding on to what they'd got. This they did effectively, but the players took some stick for being more content to protect their lead, rather than going hell for leather in the quest for more goals. Keep pushing numbers forward, and 'the best form of defence is attack' philosophy makes for a more exciting game for spectators, but if you're encouraging a more expansive game from first minute to last, and teaching your players not to 'shut up shop' but to keep going for the oppositions 'jugular', then days like today will sometimes be inevitable. Two goals conceded on Tuesday, and another two today, so yes definitely a requirement to look at how the defensive side of things is functioning over the coming week. Johnson's views on how best to close out a game or to make sure you've maintained your lead right up until the final whistle?....maybe it'll be a subject we'll hear him address in public over the coming days having let a couple of leads, and important points, slip of late. Keep 'defending' the States, and 'close out' that Caravan .

link -Johnson was obviously not a happy bunny and hints at new players to be brought in! We probably have got enough players to do the job when all fit and if we had Andrews, Hall and Edwards in the midfield would have won at a canter imo. However, lots of loanees and not enough back up so will be good to see some reinforcements.

I'm really not sure I agree with that GJ's very public knee jerk reaction in interview post Billericay. It has the potential to ruin player confidence and moral and undo so much of the good work and massive improvement we have seen over the past couple of months. There is simply no comparison to the performances that we had to endure under Gary Owers and whatever yo may think of yesterdays second half performance, the commitment, general fitness and discipline of yesterdays team was a country mile ahead of what it was under our previous manager. The squad with just a few tweaks has come a long way in a very short time. Already other forums are suggesting and singling out players who they believe are the "shrinking violets" Gary Johnson intends to lever out of the squad over the next few weeks. Is that good for player and squad moral? I don't think so. Agreed he has to continue to build a consistent squad but to go public with his thoughts, in my eyes is not a good idea .

I think with promotion this year being the objective there is a degree of ruthlessness by Johnson that we wouldn’t normally see in a higher division. Whether that involves throwing the baby out with the bath water remains to be seen.

Frustrating not to win after we should have had the game sewn up just after half time.
Our best performances have seen Hall holding, freeing Edwards, Lemonheigh-Evans and Andrews to get forward.
We were without three of that four yesterday. That lack of quality told in the end.
We played 4-4-2 again with Kalala on the right and Keating on the left.
We dominated the first half playing high tempo football into the wind and fully deserved a 2-0 lead.
Keating missed a sitter to make it 3 just after half-time, we conceded a freak goal and then conceded the initiative.
Dickson, predictably, was tiring and the wide men offered little as regards midfield support. Lemonheigh-Evans was left out-gunned and overrun.
I would have gone 4-3-3, bringing on Sokolik and Nabi as fresh legs in midfield, freeing Lemonheigh-Evans to play further forward and would have played Keating through the middle with Janneh and Reid either side.
It looked like we would lose the game - no surprise at all when they equalised. They had a player sent off shortly after for a second yellow.
After that Billericay settled for a point - wasting time and stopping the game from flowing. The ref was totally ineffectual - letting them get away with murder.
Gary Johnson sportingly evened up the numbers by bringing on Brett Williams so it was 10 v 10 with Williams as a spectator.
Reid initially went wide right to accommodate Williams, but soon pulled rank on Janneh who went out wide instead.
Substitutions of attackers are supposed to add a bit of verve and vigour to the forward line, but this did the opposite.
Reid, Janneh and Keating make things happen with their energy and prodigious work rate. Williams does not offer energy or work rate.
We really do miss having a forward who can hold the ball up. Playing into the wind, we played to Reid and Janneh's strengths with balls into the channels for them to chase after. With the wind, we just overhit forwards balls time and again - nothing much to chase after.
Disappointing not to get the three points to close the gap on top spot, but there is still a long way to go. Would be nice to get some of our injured men back, especially Edwards, Hall and Andrews. How nice to even be thinking about top spot. Even seventh place seemed an impossible dream under Owers.

I used to drive past Harrogates ground quite often a few years back. Looking at it from the road, I wouldn't have thought you could get 200 in there, let alone 2200!

link - Herald are reporting Billericay fans are incensed with the worst dive ever but looking carefully at the clip particularly the slowed down version it is clear that Jamie did catch the heel of the defender which caught him off balance. Furthermore, he was actually appealing for a corner...... ho hum
