With 5 wins and 1 draw Johnson has got off to a great start but 3 of those games were against lower opposition and the 2 wins and a draw in the league was the start Owers had this season so relatively early days yet and 3 tough successive Saturday games now coming up against sides at the top of the league which may tell us more about where we are.
Probably our weakest area on the pitch is right back in a 4-4-2 and it will interesting to see if Johnson plays Essuman / Wynter in this position or reverts back to a 3-5-2 with Davis and Edwards playing as the wing backs? I still think that Hall, Lemonheigh-Evans and Andrews (assuming he is fit) form our best central midfield or to link up with Edwards in a 4-4-2. Up front I would see how Lumbomba-Kalala partnered up with Reid as he was very impressive last week. Possibly a bit harsh on Janneh but he is possibly someone who would have the most impact coming on as a sub and where our goal threat seemed to go down a notch after the substitutions up front against Winchester.

Time to put the distraction of the FA cup to bed and get back to our main goal of getting out of this division.
Cant help not to be impressed by all of Gary Johnson's acquisitions (and departures) since his arrival and I have been somewhat surprised by their quality. Mustn't forget that at least three a are not our players. Kalala looks to be an inspired signing confident with ability rarely seen at this level and bags of potential.
Having said that some credit must go to Gary Owers for bringing in a decent enough core of players, Bass, MacDonald, Camreron, Niate etc and Andrews and Edwards were his signings with Dickson waiting in the wings. Johnson had a good foundation to be honest that needed a few tweaks and more tactical know how.
Some more room to maneuver now that Wright has left the building and Banton has gone out on loan. For certain Johnson will be concentrating on the weak areas in the coming weeks and months with Winter perhaps looking on occasion to be a weak link though I have seen some signs of a decent player.
Another stern test tomorrow no doubt and an even tougher one next Saturday - lets see how far we have come since GJ's arrival.

Preview now available on dot com - linkListening to the podcast seems that Andrews has been back at Bristol for a scan and treatment and while he has checked out ok may not be risked tomorrow but can be picked up from Bristol en route. Also Dickson is training at a high intensity and may make it onto the subs bench. Pete , agree that Owers set up a solid team but lacked that Flair and ability to break down defences to the extent that the overall result as a spectator was pretty dire. |

Expect us to be unchanged.
Essuman lucky to keep his place, but Wynter no better.
Andrews would be nailed on to start but has been in Bristol all week. As none of the forward players,particularly Kalala, deserve to be dropped he may be used from the bench.
Same XI could play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.
I expect we will use 4-4-2 in games where we have to force the pace.
Would not be surprised if we start today 3-5-2 with Essuman pulling in to be third centre-back and Kalala to be third central midfielder with Edwards and Davis as wing-backs.
May well swap to 4-4-2 later in the game if we are level or behind.
A point would normally be a good result, but expect Johnson to be looking for three points. We have given Woking and Billericay a head start so need wins if we want to challenge for the title.

Very pleased for Edwards as he has progressively got better with every game he has played and hopefully first of many goals for us. |
