The new road (South Devon Highway or something similar) is the other side of the road (1/2 mile) to the left of the bridge as you look at the photo. Check out google maps.

Had a look at google, all it showed was a brown stain showing where the road was going! From the Penn inn to the Edginswell flyover seemingly. Is it finished yet...is it any better? I think the word car park was invented for the Newton Road!

Finished a couple of years ago - brilliant - can get from my house to NA in about 10 minutes. Has it still got a naff 40 speed limit on it, or has common sense prevailed? It is a dual carriageway but only with a 50 speed limit as joins Hamlin Way about 100m up from the Kerswell roundabout with a traffic light system. There is a single lane flyover above the Penn Inn roundabout for traffic not turning off for Newton Abbot or the Shaldon direction.

I was grossly disappointed that there is only a single slip road on to it at PIR; May not be a 10 lane super highway but it's a brilliant piece of construction for us locals

Is the old Newton Road now the quickest way by any chance, without all that pesky traffic? Now 20mph speed limit with traffic calming measures and cycle lanes as wide as the car lanes.

Security measures need to be reviewed.

I was grossly disappointed that there is only a single slip road on to it at PIR; I was expecting, and I think it warrants, 2 lanes. If you had two lanes each way on the flyover, how would Newton Abbot traffic leave and join? You would have to put a roundabout either side of the flyover, which would somewhat defeat the object! Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in August are the test. The new road passes that test.

Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in August are the test. The new road passes that test. There are such things as flyovers with 4 lanes, which I'm sure could have been built if the money had been available. I detest many things about the US but when they build roads they try to make them future-proof. A great example of which is the Golden Gate Bridge; 6 lanes built in 1933. We were still thinking small, when we built the M25 some 50 years later! I am reliably informed that the terms of Sainsbury's lease precluded any flyover encroaching on their store so the road couldn't have been any wider. Anyway it clearly doesn't need any extra lanes as the whole thing works superbly. All the nay-sayers (and I was one) who said it wouldn't make much of a difference have had to eat their words.

For me it was game which must rank as one of the worst in our history and I'm sure with Gary 'I haven't got a clue' Owers in charge there's worse to come.Surely now is the time for pitchforks and lighted torches? The guy is clueless and wouldn't know the difference abetween a Bordeaux and a claret.
