Having seen McNichol and Kelly in other seasons, I can't imagine that either of them would have played in the manner of a modern day wing back, so it must have been quite congested at the back at times, which probably accounts for the fewest goals conceded in one season in the club's League history. Yes, they were both more full backs than wing backs. They certainly did not bomb forward in the way that Gurney and Gibbs did. McNichol scored eleven goals that season - but I think most were headers from corners and free kicks. Cyril's style was perfect for away games and we actually picked up more points away than at home that season. People look back on that season with rose-tinted glasses now - and it is hardly surprising as it was a season that restored the club's pride after three disastrous seasons in a row. But there were rumblings at the negativity at Plainmoor, particularly as we failed to take full advantage of a run of home games towards the end of the season - a series of 0-0 draws with Peterborough, Colchester and Darlington while top scorer Dobbo was left on the bench. We scored 34 goals at home that season, but half of those game in three games - 6-1 v Wrexham and Newport and 5-0 v Rochdale. Take those three games out and we scored 17 in 20 home matches. I don't know what Eric Webber would have made of it!

I would imagine Olaf Koszela doesn't have a squad number because he doesn't start his professional contract until next March. In the meantime believe he is still a member of the U18 team.

I am sure you are right. He is in effect a "first year YTS" in old money. I only listed him as a possible no.11 as that is the shirt he has been wearing in pre-season so far.
