I think every fan just wants to see the club get out of the hole we are in and someone to put the club on a sustainable course. It matter not one jot who does this. I think it is not in dispute we had a lucky escape last summer from GI but that was only due to the council not reaching an agreement on the freehold.

..... group of militants....... I am sure that many of us share Alpine's fears that community ownership of Torquay United FC might very well lead to the rise of international communism and the end of Western civilisation as we know it. But, for those of us who really really love TUFC, if seeing South Devon's bourgeoisie hanging from lamp posts is the only way to preserve the long-term future of TUFC, then it is a price worth paying.

Jon I'm hoping that just such a united call will be issued just as soon as the decision on our future has been made. A clear call for everyone to embrace the fresh start and get behind the new owners will need to be made loud and clear by the present Board, along with supportive words from the local press and from TUST And if we default to GI ownership?

Rob The central plank of TUST members current negative spin campaign. It almost makes you think they weren't listening to the answers they were given just a few weeks ago on the likelihood of that happening, when it was discussed at the Fans Forum.
But it is something that would be concerning far more of us IF the Board had taken leave of it's senses and told all potential investors to pack their bags, and instead given the TUST exclusivity up until 31st January 2017. Now that might well have justified some real panic. Going round to the Torbay public with the begging bowl and telling them we'd sent away numerous potential investors in order to let the locals donate the money they had earmarked for Christmas presents so that it could instead be given to the executives of Gaming International.
Although not business geniuses, our Board at least had the common sense to reject that cock and bull suggestion. Now it's just a matter of letting them conclude the necessary negotiations to finalise the deal judged to be in the club's best long term interests.

Nearly answered my query, but I'll take that as you wouldn't be keen on rallying around GI ownership. I had been wondering if there was one, but good to see you can also be ruled out. Possibly.
As for the rest of your post, I can't be convinced with a GI Board in situ and only one other alternative in TUST that you'd be anything but a remainiac yourself though, alpine.
I heard what the Board said. Although their preferred bidder did of course drop out the other day.
There has been nothing more from Dave Phillips other than "wait a couple of weeks" at the forum, confusion as to whether anyone had indeed made a bid after a statement he issued the following week, followed by this week's instalment of "wait a couple of weeks" in the local press. We then get confirmation one other bid is certainly in, and he wants it all done by the end of November.
The long period of exclusivity previously does make you wander if these 'in a couple of weeks" things tend to happen. Reading elsewhere about what the Board actually value TUFC at to their preferred bidder is also a concern. These 'couple of weeks' things haven't happened so far and the only thing that makes me write about the GI loan is the very real fear this might end up being our epitaph.
I would get behind a Board that was keen on progressing our Club, did something about it and engaged with fans, like any of us on here, TUST member or otherwise. The outcome of 'negotiations' with GI were the last straw for me with this Board, though. They don't build and shut things down. Any mug now seems to accept that. Possibly.

But the fact is we didn't escape from GI last summer. They are still favourites to take over the club. I think it is really likely that Peter Masters will do a deal with them that will enable him to take over the club.

Maybe only a postponement but at least it gave the club 6 months to search for alternative investment although we are now well over half way through this period.

Rumours on another site suggesting done deal with GI imminent. If so, club death cannot now be far off and such a move simply further confirms how totally inept the current regime have been in their so called "management" of TUFC in terms of getting the club through difficult times and into a new era! Some progress if we have ended-up signing a dodgy deal with a bunch self-interested fiscal thugs! Even Chris Roberts would have been a better option!

Rumour and supposition but quite likely to be the only feasible option given the circumstances the club, board and chairman now find themselves in. I haave no doubt that Dave Phillips will do what he believs to be the right thing for the sake of the football club after all it was his and his consortiums money that saved the club last time and without there intervention it could well have gone down the pan long before now. TUST's motives are nobel ones but in my opinion impractcle in the long term. Simply put there is no motivation for the ordinary poorly paid local population to get involved and if it were actualy possible to raise enough to make a practicle bid and pay off all the debts it wouldnt just stop there. The club in its current form, a business that loses money hand over fist every week is not an attractive one for anyone with any money sense. Look around the terraces when you visit Plainmoor a few kids only outnumbered by pensioners or those approaching pension age. Not many there who could afford to waste there humble rescources on an ailing football club. We can shout and scream about conspiracy theories with Phillip Masters until were blue in the face and historically GI do not appear to be ideal bed partners but with the club fast approaching a crossroads and failing misserably in every department both on and off the pitch there is simply no choice at all. This club needs a total rethink in terms of how its run as it is its heading for the scrap heap anyway so maybe GI, if they actually do get hold of it may have some fresh ideas on how to salvage something from the debris of recent seasons and give back the club some sort of future - in whatever guise that may be.

Well I would not want PM or GI if at all possible - interestingly the HE has now broken a story on a Midlands Consortium take over next week?!

Lets hope there are other options Simon but we have little power over what you/ we want and what we actually get. I want a club and a team to be proud of but sadly haven't felt at all "proud" for quite some time.

link - not sure if this is new interest or the other firm offer that was on the table. Hopefully this is the new start that the club so desperately needs and not a panic sale to dubious buyers that happened last time.

This could be a huge week for the club. Fingers crossed that we get good news. Personally, hope Norman Smurthwaite is involved. Some speculation about this on the other site........

Could this be the chap from Port Vale rearing his head again? linkMr Smurthwaite might have finally decided on his retirement plans and wants a nice relaxing time plunging his pension into the black hole of TQ1! Or... probably not.
