Are you 100% certain of that Jon. Do you honestly believe that the club would still be in existence if it been handed over to the TUST at that time? If you had said " The wheels were in motion with 100% sustainable guaranteed funding " then I would believe that you have would have a convvincing a case. A PROPER launch of a community share issue would have been a far better option than what we went with - both in terms of financial capital raised and human capital managing the business. Show me the option that was "100% guaranteed" to succeed. I can show you one that was 100% guaranteed to fail.

There was no-one standing in the way of TUST trying to raise money well in advance of the day that was inevitably coming ..... I'm getting a little fed up with going over the same ground time and time again. The kind of community share option that would have succeeded was one LED BY THE CLUB as a positive option to save the club and put it on a sound footing. A call to arms that UNITED the fan base. I have NEVER believed that a community share option could possibly succeed while people like Phillips and Balson are so vehemently opposed to it. They have divided the fan base and thereby left us in the hands of vultures. The vultures are happy with a job well done.

Much of what you have said has been true, though not all. The daft way you have conducted yourself has played into Masters' hands.

I keep asking myself WHY would GI still be interested in the purchase of the football club They decided in the summer that they did not want to buy TUFC. I suspect what has changed is hearing that the current owners of TUFC Ltd were considering appointing a receiver. I suspect GI would rather appoint their own tame receiver and that they will be in a far stronger position to pocket the lion's share of any CVA / liquidation dividend if they own the shares in TUFC Ltd's major creditor. Fans should not be premature in celebrating avoiding an insolvency event and a rapid hurtle down the football pyramid. Departing directors should not be premature in celebrating getting their money back. Am I being overly pessimistic in thinking this could go horribly wrong?

You reckoned on this forum it could have been effective even with disinterested owners in that 'sleepy seaside resort' you describe if only it had happened a few months before on a date specified by you without offering a shred, Flo.
Hey ho. Nowt as queer as folk. I look forward to the first instalment of news of our shifting sands new dawn later. I still think we'll have a bit of money chucked our way short term en route to our new owners' end game.
Wonder if there will be confirmation of Pete Masters ongoing role, if any, and those conditions he mentioned on Friday? Will the press ask? Will they ask any of those questions raised to date in the thread Pete started? Answers later, perhaps.

Yet another day of destiny dawns! More large dollops of smoke and mirrors no doubt? Not sure we can expect an open and honest account given the past few months of bull!

You can't just say that, Jon. What baseline are you using to be so certain that it would have succeeded? And please don't start quoting what happened in other places, unless you are talking about a sleepy seaside resort with a higher than the national average of retired persons. I never said it wouldn't work but I did say there was no evidence it would. If you want a local steer about the success of community ownership, read up on Oldway Mansion. It's been in limbo for years and nothing looks likely to change anytime soon. In January, 1700 people (a TUFC home crowd thereabouts) petitioned the mayor to stop it being developed. At the time it was in the hands of developers, who dropped out in April. Since then bugger all has happened and the place falls further in to disrepair. Eerily similar to what I believe would be the outcome of a community ownership bid for our club. There is no evidence, either, to suggest that had the set of circumstances existed that Jon describes, that it would not have succeeded. And yes, if clubs like Lewes , Bath, Newport, in their own contexts can summon up enough will and desire to make it work, then there is no reason why a club with a much bigger level of support could not have made it work. No one is pretending TUST would have led the club back to the Football League but no one believes GI will either. The issue is, supporters were never given a chance. Peter Masters tried to buy the club in 2915 but couldn't because he already owned Truro ( even I could have told him that) and ever since, he has been 'advising' the club. That almost seems corrupt. Someone advising the club, steering it, no doubt, in a way that suits them. His attitude to fans is fairly well documented. I find it an utter outrage that this board of supposed fans of the club, have had their head turned and their choices influenced by Masters putting his own interests first.

Quite right Hector nobody has a clue whether " a call to arms from the club" as a Jon suggests would or woud not have been successful. Personally I believe it would have ended up as a damp squib with no foundation. Lewes, Bath and Newport havent really progressed to any degree - Tust ownership would still have been a gamble and reckon the best we could have hoped for would have been short term survival with the club continuing to stagnate and decline. Where exactly were the funds going to come from to actualy move the club forward if the club became community owned let alone finance to keep it running day to day and keep the wolves from the door. I suspect we would have been left with a football club that continued to tick along in limbo with limited ambition. I reckon Phillips and co felt exactly the same and were eventually prepared to take the gamble with this lot. And yes it is a gamble but I see no other reason why Phillips would have gone down this route other than seeing a better future for the club, one that could progress and be self financing. Believe what you like but I see no reason why the now despised Phillips and his directors would sell the club short - what did they honestly have to gain and dont suggest it was solely to see theeir investment back! I am certain they see this route as the best route to move the club forward in the long term and not just tick along barely surviving week to week. Do we honestly want that , a skeleton of a club TUFC in nname only but with no substance? If there is the slightest prospect of progress under this new regime compared to ticking along as we are ten I would take the gamble as personally Im fed up with asupporting a club that continues to nosedive. This is more than likely last throw of the dice for this club ansd see no point in rocking the boat or organising a witch hunt until we know ALL of the facts.

Pete - the suspicion does remain that either the terms of their loan deal with GI or the prospect of getting a return on their investment ( maybe both, carrot and stick and all that) has prejudiced this decision.
It seems that most are frankly horrified by this deal....

It seems that most are frankly horrified by this deal.... So that implies rj that TUST refused to pay back the loan and would never be in a position or had any intention to do so. Now put youself in their position. Your reasonably well off but not wealthy by any strectch of the imagination) if you had a very considerable sum of money essentially loaned to a business thtas was about to fold. You did it for sentimental motives THERE WAS NO OTHER REASON TO DO IT WHATSOEVER. You have resposibilities to your family would you honestly write off a large proportion of your you childrens inheritance? It sure did play a part and why shouldnt it ? If Tust had made assurances that they would do all in their power to reapay these very generous loans that bailed out a business that was going down the pan there may just have been another result but as we all know TUST has no real money and are guessing what they acan actually raise. Phillips is a bookmaker after all he knows what a bloody gamble is he was forced by emotional ties to bet on a donkey and was offered a way to get his stake back . I see nothing wrong in that.

Re Nico - I've read it from the same source that stated weeks ago that GI would be taking over and Nico would be relieved of duties. They also stated Pete Masters would be very much involved. A few days after that internet rumour Clarke Osbourne was quoted by ITN stating they were not involved. Still just rumour.
Sticking with my short term money before end game hypothesis for now. But itching for actual news like all. When is this bloody press conference?
