Useful pitch time for a few fringe players.
Interesting that we started with the same formation the first team uses. Callum Hall (he of the West Brom screamer) played wide on the left but nobody even made a pretense of playing wide right. Nathan Hebbes (Torquay Academy) played in the middle with Lathrope with Chaney in front of them but in a central position. Hancox got forward from right back. Hayden Greening played at centre back - he had put in a brief injury-curtailed appearance in the Stoke Gabriel PSF. No Chay Scrivens and more surprisingly no Charlie Duke or Tallan Mitchell.
In the second half two more Torquay Academy lads - Louis Roberts, and Connor Stewart - replaced Lathrope and Chaney. One went in to Lathrope's role, one went wide left (not sure which way round!) with Callum Hall switching to the right.
Chamberlain then got a knock that forced him off. Robbie Herrera came on as a defensive midfielder leaving Brett Williams on his own up front - but not for long. He proceeded to sit down and look pissed off until he was allowed to come off and be replaced by physio Gareth Law.
It was a comfortable 5-0 win. Williams confidently converted an early penalty after Chamberlain had been brought down by the keeper. Chamberlain soon added a second from a lovely Chaney pass and before half-time a third set up for him by Williams. After a first half that produced loads of chances, the second half was a lot quieter until two late goals - another absolute screamer from Hall and a cool finish from Hebbes. Robba very nearly spilt one into his own net, but it was ruled not to have crossed the line.
Watcombe gave their all but it would be more useful to play a team from a few levels up - say Buckland or Willand or Plymouth Parkway or Exmouth. Sean Finch put in an excellent shift up front for Wanderers.
Game started with no floodlights and ten minutes or so in it was getting a bit dark. The ref stopped play and seemed to ask Robbie Herrera and after getting no joy then went over to ask Nico who was about to take a corner. Suddenly the lights came on.
Breedy was in his element bellowing his instructions and he had a familiar face at his side - Shaun Roberts once of this parish. Mrs Roberts and Mrs Breed were sat together in the stand. Dave Phillips was track-suited and alongside Herrera in the dugout. It felt like a weird game of Fantasy Football Manager. I was half-expecting Deano to turn up in his legendary Bromley tracksuit.
