 Today (12th September) marks the first anniversary of Jeremy Corbyn's accession to the leadership of the Labour Party. Whatever your views of Comrade Corbyn, and we've all heard the jokes that he's attempting to turn the Labour Party into the political wing of TUST, his elevation has shaken up British politics and made it worth discussing again. From the days of interchangable leaders such as Miliband, Clegg and Cameron, there are now at least a few different ideas kicking around. Labour's Blairite parliamentary party, with little if anything in common with the Party's rank and file membership in the constituencies, seems set to guarantee us fun and games for a good while yet. In the mean time Chairman May can get on unhindered as she attends to the important stuff of freeing us from the shackles of the dictatorial E.U and providing some long overdue decent schooling for our youngsters, giving them an alternative to the indoctrination centres that have served our kids so poorly for many a decade. The world stage is no less exciting. Hilary's health issues have been a major talking point everywhere for many a month, everywhere that is.... except the mainstream media !!!. Unable to hide the blatantly obvious any longer they're hoping that the hand rails, unsteadiness, and now yesterday's collapse, can be fobbed off as 'pneumonia'. But today is a time to mark Comrade Corbyn's first 12 months, and to wish him every success in purging his enemies from the Party during the coming year, while thanking him for adding some badly needed interest to Britain's sterile political scene.

The British public have been more than patient while watching the Comprehensive experiment crumble. We've had the best part of half a century of it, likewise with membership of the European Union, and to use Hector's term, the 'serfs' finally realised that these things that were originally fraudulentally sold to them as being for their benefit, have turned out to be anything but.
The Blair Governments proclaiming priorities of 'Education, education, and education'. Vast sums spent on building shiny new schools, but the outcome has still been the predicatable socialist disaster. Parents know there's no guarantee of a grammar school place, but even the slightest chance that their child has an opportunity to avoid being consigned to a comprehensive hell hole, is enough to see a significant majority back the return of Grammars.
Of course none of this means that you'd never find one of the Corbyn offspring at a Grammar, or Harriet Harman's son at a selective Grammar, or Tony Blair's lad at a grant maintained school, or Diane Abbott's boy at private school. As usual, the Left display contempt for the serfs, preaching one thing to them, while doing quite another themselves.
It's the same story with the E.U. We've endured the best part of half a century of that, a giant club to favour the multi-nationals and the metropolitan elite...yet the serfs were told they'd benefit from it. Yet the truth is that the NHS they'd funded through their taxes can't even find a trolly for them to lie on in a corridor, as the health tourists and those from all round the globe flood in to take advantage.
It's the same old story, and an ex-pats guide to TUST would reveal the exact same thing; far from the serfs taking control or benefiting, yet again they've been spun a line, just as they originally were with the E.U and Comprehensive schools. We can only hope that the ordinary fans sees through the 'Supporters Direct' sham far sooner than the decades it took for reality to dawn over the damage being done by 'progressive' Left thinking on Europe and education.

In the red corner.....Jezza comes out fighting !! Just because UKIP captured the headlines with a Strasburg scuffle between a couple of their MEP's, it doesn't mean that Jezza's Labour Party isn't also fighting fit and ready for Government  .  And it's not only Jezza, but some of the 'Jezza Belles' that he's got in his Shadow Cabinet that are formidible characters too. With the strong backing of the Party membership, Corbs is able to do things his way without being unduly influenced by strategy advisors or public relations men. 'We have to shake off the image of the London elite, or we'll never win back the north of England' - well we can guess how many times Jeremy has been given that advice, but he's having none of it...it's London all the way for Red Jezza.  And of course Diane did get the Shadow Home Secretary post....so if the working class living north of Watford don't like it, they know what they can do.
'Not too much loony lefty politically correct stuff either Jeremy, people haven't stopped laughing about Emily Thornberry as Shadow Foreign Secretary yet' ....it's just the sort of thing that Jeremy sees as a challenge isn't it ?, and makes him determined to show he can even go one better than previously. And I'd say he's definitely succeeded after last week, when he ditched Clive Lewis MP, a Sandhurst trained infantry officer who served a 3 month tour of duty in Afghanistan, as his Shadow Defence Secretary, and replaced him with expenses fiddling lesbian, Nia Griffith.  So don't think UKIP alone provide all the fun. Corbynista Labour remains a great source of merriment for all those who enjoy following the British political scene  |

Jon It's a question that goes to the very heart of modern Labour Party thinking, and of course, you can't dothe job unless you get the job in the first place. To what extent do quotas and the overwhelming need to pigeon-hole everyone, determine who gets what job within Corbynista Labour ? We know that MP's in certain constituencies owe their position to their sex, due to all women shortlists, but are decisions made on sexuality also, as Jon interestingly questions ? I doubt there's any classification some Labourites wouldn't use to deny others and benefit themselves. As an example let's think back to last year's Labour leadership election when Motherhood, or the absence of it, was seemingly used as a reason why Liz Kendall wouldn't be able to do the job satisfactorily.  Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, has been accused of highlighting the fact her Labour leadership rival Liz Kendall does not have any children to win votes

'Doing the job' these days, seems to be less about the ability that you can bring to the position, but rather more that 'doing the job' primarily involves representing a certain group. And away from politics, do we have enough female F1 drivers, or enough gay Premier League stars ? Enough female firemen, enough Gay cabinet Ministers, or enough male Primary teachers ? The definition of doing the job, for many, including the BBC it seems, means being seen to be a representaive member of a particular sub group of society. Theresa May completed 6 years as Home Secretary, and now that she's Prime Minister, she's appointed another woman, Amber Rudd, to take her old job at the Home Office. Jezza was reported to want a woman as Shadow Home Secretary, and so the job has gone to Diane Abbott. Who can remember our last male Home Secretary ? While Jon's question undoubtedly catches the prevailing trend within Labour, and possibly within 21st century Britain, where we have quotas for black policemen, and we all seem to have to fill in an ethnicity questionnaire whenever we correspond with a Government department, my answer would be that, sexuality will most likely increasingly play a part as the need to meet quotas grows as regards who's doing the job, and quite possibly therefore keeping out someone who might well have been better able to do that job. Jon The perfect response given our Corbynista Labour theme..... but still deserving of a 'Political correctness gone mad !!' chorus from the crowd , grateful I'm sure for my efforts to add clarity, especially for overseas members (Floridagull) who might not have an encyclopedic knowledge of British opposition MP's. The aim being to bring full understanding to the highlighted opinion piece immediately below it. Hence my use of 'expenses fiddling' should anyone be unsure what a'seasoned trougher' was. Also, and I'll confess my own ignorance here, I'd never heard of Nia Griffith, didn't know if 'Nia' was a male or female name, and on reading 'gay' but with an 'ex husband', thought it more likely to be a male under discussion. Having done the work of checking Wikipedia: 'Griffith is divorced, her former husband was a social worker.
In a photo shoot for The Independent in February 2016, Griffith came out as lesbian', I was able to helping others avoid my initial confusion.  |

I've a feeling that there are two by-elections scheduled for this coming Thursday. One in Sellafield, (forever Windscale to us old timers, who knew that it wasn't a breakfast of Ready Brek that made the local kids glow as they walked to school) although the constituency name is something different, and another in Stoke. And it's the Stoke one that's capturing all the interest and attracting all the attention.  In both the constituencies the sitting Labour MP has become sufficiently disillusioned with things that they've chucked in the parliamentary towel and left politics altogether. But come Thursday, nine tenths of the camera crews and reporters will surely be in Stoke. Can Corbynista Labour hold on to their seat, or will UKIP leader Paul Nuttall win it from them ? Nuttall's not doing brilliantly, and there could be further attempts to damage his campaign in the week, but Labour's selection of a confirmed Remainiac in Gareth Snell was puzzling in itself. Unearthed tweets showing that he advocated a good slapping for Coronation Street's Dierdrie could have lost him a handful of votes, but what, more crucially,couldn't have been worst timed for him in this strongly 'Remain' part of the country, was Tony Blair's rallying cry to overturn Brexit. Blair's well publicised words led to local Labour Party organisers being sat with head in hands, exclaiming 'If only he could have waited just one week'. But of course he couldn't wait, and considerable thought would have gone into when Blair should deliver his words...the BBC keeping it as their main story from morning till bedtime. Blairites unending war on Corbynista Labour obviously doesn't relent. If TB can add another dagger to Jeremy's back by doing his bit to sabotage Stoke, then is anyone really surprised ? But, while that may have been the secondary aim of last weeks speech, wasn't it principally to signal to the Blairite packed House of Lords, that he was giving them the green light to do what they can to derail or dilute Brexit over the next couple of weeks, as it's discussion dominates the Upper House ? Blair's anti democratic message, plus wet blanket Snell, added to the antics of their Lordships early next week.....and it's starting to look as if Stoke might already be Nuttall's to lose. Stay out of trouble for a few days and clean up on Thursday. Snell needs some help, but who could Jezza send to The Potteries who might help Snell out rather than make things worse ? That's a tough one, as it's always easier to agree on who not to send ! Why antagonise the locals further ?  It doesn't look good for Corbynista Labour. Another panning from the Media if there's more evidence that the working class have disowned them. Thursday is getting ominously close, and I can't yet see how Jezza is going to pull this one out of the fire. |

Your beloved UKIP not doing so well under this new leader though, are they, Alpine? The suspicion of untruths leaving his mouth have been confirmed with his tale of being at Hillsborough, serving on a charity board and a few others - plus his disregard for the NHS wouldn't go down very well, even though it may curry favour with you.
In fact, thinking about it, there is a whiff of your mate, Chris Roberts about him: an utter bullshitter, and perhaps that's why you like him so - perhaps he will start on about plans for a seafront hotel and football stadium and all will be right with the world again.

Quick check of the by - election betting odds suggests that Labour to retain Stoke and Tories to win Copeland, but who knows? These are one off events and do not have much long term impact. However, do see that labour are down to 26% in the latest national poll! I wonder who has the longer odds of still being in a position to fight the 2020 election - Trump or Corbyn?

Copeland may already be in the bag for the Tories, with even some suggestions they're coming through on the rails to make Stoke a three horse race. Theresa May visited Stoke yesterday to rally the troops. If UKIP support is falling away then The Conservatives are the most likely beneficiaries of those changed voting intentions. As Hector alluded to, anyone following in the footsteps of Sir Nigel has a massive job attempting to keep UKIP at the same high levels of popularity achieved pre Referendum. Do the public at large, trust a Party leader with a Scouse accent ? The PR companies would have the data on that, but it might not be a top selling point.  Bookies predicting a win for Gareth. Although it's not so clear cut according to a local Stoke 'expert', Professor Temple. Local expert Mick Temple, professor of journalism and politics at Staffordshire University – based in the constituency, insisted a shock Tory win in Stoke shouldn’t be entirely discounted. On February 15 the Conservatives were as highly-priced as 50/1. 6,500 postal votes ? If General Elections were decided only on postal votes alone, we'd have Prime Minister Miliband now, with the biggest majority in Parliamentary history. Jezza, as well as the bookies, are probably factoring in 99% of those 6,500 postal votes going to Labour. If Blair's Lords don't threaten Brexit too much, and Labour keep Diane Abbot in London until next weekend, a Corbynista victory in Stoke can't totally be ruled out.  The early bird catches the Voter. Jezza and Gareth knocking on doors so early that it looks as if in his rush to answer the door, this poor bloke has quickly pulled on his wife's dressing gown or bath robe. Jezza listens intently, while Gareth contributes a gormless smile. |

Counting the hours down, and at least the Stoke Central losers will know who they can blame for their failure. Fresh from fiddling the U.S Election to install Donald Trump in the White House, the Daily Telegraph reports suggestions that Vladimir Putin has now turned his attention to Stoke, and Thursday's by-election.

The mainstream media are claiming there's a Tory resurgence that's pointing towards a three horse race. I don't believe them and am more inclined to think it's a cynical ploy to convince some UKIP voters that they now need to vote Tory to prevent a Labour victory.
Whatever the truth of the situation, Chris Roberts impersonator, Paul Nuttall, must be feeling more uneasy about his chances of victory.
Whether failure in Stoke would necessarily mean Hillsborough survivor Nuttall relinquishing the UKIP leadership is far from certain. Sir Nigel surely doesn't want to come back AGAIN....and what other talent is there ? I'm certainly not putting my name forward while I'm patiently waiting to be head hunted by G.I. Nuttall needs to win this, but so, badly, does Jezza's Labour Party.
Politicalbetting.com can't be accused of underplaying the significance of 'Stoke Central'. Reminding readers how Plymothian and Patron Saint of Donkey Jacket wearers, Michael Foot, clung to Labour Party leadership, and thereby possibly significantly altering the course of British history, due to a Labour Party by-election win in Darlington back in 1983, and speculating that a Stoke win for Labour on Thursday can similarly entrench the Labour leader's position, despite his widespread unpopularity with the electorate nationwide.

Forget fat goalkeepers and pies. I've put my money on at least two thirds of tomorrow's Herald Express podcast being devoted to the Stoke by-election. With a side bet that Nathan Smith will have been in touch to give an account of what it's like in the city as excitement reaches fever pitch.Not too many hours until the Polling Stations open, the votes can be cast, and the winner of the 'Battle of Stoke' can be declared. We're told the The Russians are interested, and are pulling what strings they can behind the scenes. The Americans are interested, with the Wall Street Journal sending over a journalist to compile a piece with excellent photographs, that may now have gone behind a subscription paywall since earlier in the day link WSJ on Stoke
But are the people of Stoke interested ? For the 2015 General Election, Stoke Central recorded the lowest percentage turnout of any constituency in the country, with only 49.5% casting a vote. And now we also have to factor in Storm Doris ! Who's going to go out in monsoon conditions, or risk getting blown over the roof tops to get to a ballot box ? Traditionally, bad weather was viewed as disproportionately bad news for the Labour vote, but would that still be the case now ?. Looking at the demographic of the likely UKIP vote, you've got plenty of old dears who might prefer the fireside, another cup of tea, and Countdown, to ruining their 'perm' by going out into the eye of the storm.
Clairvoyant Doris - She'd have known who was going to win Stoke before a vote had been cast.
So not only might it be the elderly 'kippers who stay at home, but could there be further good news for Jezza, as which section of our multi-ethnic population might be known for favouring the utilisation of postal votes rather than trekking to a Polling Station ? Votes already cast, and unaffected by rain, snow, or heatwave tomorrow, and possibly a major chunk of them cast for Corbynista Labour.
Jezza has been around long enough to know his onions, and most other vegetables, when it comes to by-elections. He needs one win from tomorrows two games, three points out of a possible six. Copeland is probably a step too far, so it needs to be Stoke.

DISILLUSIONED REDS
As we start to bring the curtain down on TFF's by-election coverage, let's take a look at a few of the things we've learnt. First and foremost, there's little appetite for, or interest in Corbynista Labour. This, and the UKIP thread were started a couple of days apart. 500 odd views for this one, yet the best part of six thousand more for the UKIP thread. Focusing on the plight of Labour might well be just too painful. Even Comrade Hector's contribution demonstrated a desire to focus solely on UKIP, to the total exclusion of the situation facing Labour in 'Stoke Central'.
Now, on to the results. Corbynista Labour can take a crumb of comfort from taking 3 points out of the possible 6 on offer. Retaining the Stoke seat with a much reduced majority, and losing Copeland. But in a predominantly working class area such as Stoke, in the old days votes for Labour could be weighed rather than counted, such was their total dominance at elections. Yet Gareth Snell scraped home, and will presumably take his seat on the Labour benches at Westminster.....unless Remainiac Rules apply !
So why did such a small percentage of a working class area such as Stoke bother voting Labour ? Whereas, for instance, despite wall to wall 24 hour propaganda pumped at them for months on end in America warning them not to, the blue collar workers were motivated to come out in their millions, almost as a block, to vote for Trump ? There was a working class generation in Britain, who grew up believing Thatcher and the Tories decimated industry, attacked the Trade Unions and made their lives poorer. They lived through it and drew their own conclusions. We're decades on from that now, and another generation has grown up and had their own experiences....grown up under many years of Blair and Brown in a New Labour Britain. They've reached their own conclusions too. The average full time wage in Stoke is 24% below the national average. The working class have reached their conclusions on the causes of depressed wage rates, the causes of a health service at breaking point, and the causes of affordable housing being unavailable to them.
And while past generations blamed Tory Governments and their policies for their discontent, a more recent generation grew up seeing Labour Governments policies exacerbating the problems they were discontented about.
Elsewhere today, Comrade Hector makes mention of the people the Labour Party 'say they represent'. And it's a very salient point. These voters don't consider that Labour represents them, that's why only 14% of the electorate could be bothered to vote for Snell .... even in a place like Stoke. Who Labour SAY they represent doesn't matter, they can say it till they're blue in the face....if people don't want you to represent them, then they won't give you their support.
We know that only too well locally. Did TUST ever miss a chance to proclaim they 'represented' supporters and the Community ? But it didn't matter, as when the litmus test of a pre share issue, or a membership form is put under their nose, reality hits home....they don't want to be represented by you thanks very much. Make the claim all day every day......empty words, as your 'representation' was neither asked for, or desired.
We'd better finish with some pictures. Having totally ignored Copeland as Labour crashed and burned there yesterday, it's too late to start examining that particular wreckage now. But they can have both the photo's from last night.

![]()  Tough on TUST, tough on the causes of TUST. What a rousing speech from Prime Minister in waiting, Red Jezza Corbett. And not only speaking, but he also lead the singing of 'Happy Birthday' to Diane Abbott. Not that many expect that to be enough to persuade Diane to share her Birthday cake with anyone. Jezza lit up the conference hall with a blistering speech as he railed against multi-nationals, arms exporters, and elitist breakaway fans organisations. His call for solidarity and a common purpose received rapturous applause from the majority of delegates, although some Militants remained stony faced. Jezza spoke out against racism, sexism and coach burning; cautioning that violent militancy was not the way to take forward the Socialist message. Jezza wound up his speech with a final battle cry to conference: 'In the coming year we will continue to take the fight to both May and Osborne. We will not rest until full open border immigration is achieved, and my unshakeable determination to keep the best interests of world communism at heart is undimmed. Go back to your constituencies and prepare to read your newsletters'

Yes, Corbett really is away with the fairies! He keeps telling his cohorts to prepare to form a government! Could someone tell the old fool that we've just had an election...and he lost! Shit, even Corbett has stated that his policies would destroy this country...so nothing new from Labour there then! I see the Divine One on his site (or La La Land as it's commonly known) is still bleeting on about how wonderful the old fool is (Corbett that is, not himself ) and what a wonderful manifesto Labour and Corbett have. If you want to totally destroy this country (as opposed to partly destroying it like the current lot) then I think it's a great manifesto! Still, there's nowt as queer as folk! |
