Paul Hurst on yesterdays game - not sure what game he was watching (I take it he didn't see the elbow in Fishers face?) What a Kn*b Head
MARINERS boss Paul Hurst thinks Fabian Spiess should have been sent-off for conceding the penalty that led to his side’s equaliser at Torquay.
After going behind to a Tyrone Marsh header, Omar Bogle put Grimsby Town back on terms when he levelled from the spot late-on.
However, while Spiess was cautioned for his challenge, Hurst claims the Torquay goalkeeper should have seen red.
He told the Telegraph: “I was astounded by the decision.
“I asked the fourth official, and it got back to me the referee said there was a defender running back to the line.
“But he only got there after Omar (Bogle) had been tripped, and the ball was running that slowly towards the goal.
“So why it wasn’t followed by a red, I will never know.
“Some of these performances aren’t good enough, and it’s had a bearing on the game.”
Hurst added: “Durrell Berry should have been sent-off, because pulling shirts is a sending-off offence!
“Richard Tait, who is as honest as they come, was furious with James Hurst for doing him off the ball, and feels like he was trying to break his leg.
“These are big things, and they could have quite easily been down to eight men.”

And another thing!!! After the results of the last few weeks Grimsby came down expecting to put a few past us. When they went behind and were being beaten they got rattled. They surrounded the ref in a manner which this season is against the rules, it's supposed to be the captain and one player. The ref was soft and they got to him. (Haven't seen it yet but still say that wasn't a penalty!)

Sounds like he is getting his excuses in to the " Grimsby faithful" who would have been expecting 3 points yesterday. Not a very convincing smokescreen given the antics of his own players, at least two of which could have been sent off using the benchmark Hurst has introduced!

Another decent performance yesterday and the improvement continues. No doubt about it, we would have been hammered against them a few weeks ago. As for the comments by the Grimsby manager, they are just embarrassing and idiotic. A man who struggles to deal with, what for them, was a disappointing result.

A weird feeling on Saturday - something was missing.
I have got into the habit of paying my penance up at Plainmoor and coming away with a really virtuous feeling that I have sacrificed a few hours of my time to do something really unpleasant for the greater good of my football club.
It all went horribly wrong against Grimsby. I actually enjoyed a pretty entertaining match between two decent sides. You could argue that I paid money to be entertained and I was entertained.
I had forgotten what that felt like.

Have seen it twice on the telly and in the Herald.
Never a penalty!
I think the swallow dive and the forward roll are key. Had Speiss stopped him getting his shot away it would have been a penalty. He could easily have avoided Speiss by jumping over him.

Obviously Spiess put him off somewhat but is that not the point?

The mind bogles why Speiss didn't stand rather than go to ground giving the cheating << Northern>> fishwife the chance to dive.

Had Speiss stopped him getting his shot away it would have been a penalty. He could easily have avoided Speiss by jumping over him. The opposite is probably the case. If Speiss had stopped him getting his shot away, he would have got to the ball first - no foul. The fact he clattered him after the ball had been played made it a reckless challenge. You should not have to jump over opponents to avoid getting clattered! It makes no difference to the decision whether you stand still and get clattered or jump out of the way to avoid getting clattered.
