As a note on the clock on the original grandstand; as we know, it was presented by the mayor E.H. Sermon.
This would indeed be an appropriate item for this particular mayor to present as he was the well-known local jeweller, watch & clockmaker Edward Henry Sermon who lived in Upton but had a shop at 16 Victoria Parade in 1883 before moving to number 10 in 1889. He was certainly still there in 1911 when his son 'F.C' Sermon had joined him. At some point he was presented with the Freedom of the Borough of Torquay. I have previously owned a rather good mahogany bracket clock, made in circa 1890, with Sermon, Torquay signed on the dial. That it was of London quality would suggest to me that Sermon 'bought-in' the clocks and, as was the practice of the day, an then had his name put on them for retail. This is more than likely what happened with the Plainmoor clock, quite probably purchased from Gillett & Johnson of Croydon who where the main suppliers of outdoor and public clocks.
That someone within the business presented the club with a new clock seems to have been continued in more modern times as anyone seeing the name on the latest timepiece, presented in 2012 and now positioned above the directors box, will know!
(I shall pop this onto the 'grandstand clock' thread as pointed to by Jon above)

I almost forgot why I came onto this thread! Number 10 is the rear of Exmouth Rugby Clubs' grandstand; home to the cider swilling youth of the town!

Well you beat me to it Budleigh ..... other than I was going to say it was Barnstaple AFC ground. Bugger! 5 looks like Teignmouth or Ilfracombe by the style of houses .... but it is neither! 7 of course I know but will leave to somebody else!

But Stefano, you have the name of the club right, but for another of the pictures I believe?
If number four is Barnstaple rugby club then number three is the football ground next door, the large hedge being the dividing line.
And so therefore number five must be Bideford...

Yes number 5 Bideford. The houses in Northam Road. I knew I had been to the ground .... but Barton deliberately omitted those distinctive floodlights! Number 3 has been annoying me since it was posted as I know I have been there. I have played at Barnstaple and it still doesn't look right to me for Barnstaple. Mainly I spent many Saturday afternoons when I lived in Barnstaple at the rugby club next door .... but I can't remember those bloody trees!!!

3. Barnstaple Town. Taken on the occasion of this season's Barum-Biddy encounter in the Devon St Luke's.
5. Bideford. Stefano is right. Those wonderful old floodlight pylons would have been a giveaway.
10. Exmouth RFC. Is Budleigh talking of today's "cider-swilling youths" or referring back to his own memories of the 1960s? Not that I world have placed such a genteel character in that company.
Six has a TQ post code. None too far from either Tesco or where beasts race.
Seven, over which we are being coy, is within a wind-assisted goal kick of the A38.
Nearly there. When I return home tomorrow there will be a more fiendish picture quiz covering the other counties of the South West.

6. Rackerhayes? 7. Very close to home (500 metres as the crow flies!)

6. Rackerhayes? 7. Very close to home (500 metres as the crow flies!) Very close to Rackerhayes. It's Homers Lane where, amongst others, Buckland Athletic used to play. Now used for rugby I believe. I'll leave it for a while longer before revealing precisely which ground is Ivybridge Town.

So I have never been to Barnstaple RFC's ground but I identified it as follows: Firstly, I looked for a clue in the shape of an advertisement with a name or partial number. In BRFC's case there were 2 distinct clues; 'Pearce' as an ad and 'RFC' above the tunnel.
Making the assumption that Pearce are going to be fairly local to the ground they advertise in, I Googled 'Pearce company Devon' (as it's an all Devon grounds quiz), which returned a result 'www.pearcebarnstaple.co.uk/about'.
So continuing the theme of locality and linking it to RFC, another Google of 'Barnstaple Rugby' reveals there is such a club. I then switch the Google results from 'Web' to 'Images' and with a little bit of scrolling there was an image of the ground, albeit from a different angle but revealing enough to confirm number 4 was BRFC's ground (http://barumrugbyblog.blogspot.com/).
Some might call it cheating, I prefer my own term of 'investigative surfing'! Of course, those photos with no ad hoardings are the reason I am so rubbish at completing the quizzes. Nonetheless, it helps keep the old grey matter ticking over. And I am in Florida so there's no footslogging investigation possibilty for me!

For 4 years when I was living in Barnstaple I was a member of the Vice-Presidents Club at Barnstaple RFC (basically a season ticket - for the annual subscription you got free entry to all games, a programme, and a separate lounge bar) so was there every couple of weeks, and I didn't recognise it. Could be because I stood or sat at the part in the photo, so that was never the view I got!!!!

Only too happy to include the odd carefully-selected picture that's designed to highlight the skills of the investigative surfer.
You'll need something with the next lot.
