Exactly three weeks after traveling to Wrexham in the league, we now repeat this journey for the first half of this important cup tie. Although we are 5 points to the good on them in the league, they do have 3 games in hand and this competition represents the only tangible hope of achieving something this season with both teams needing a championship winning run of form to have a chance of making the play offs.
Wrexham have had it tough getting to this stage with a narrow win on penalties against Gateshead immediately followed up with a 0-1 away win at Halifax and then returning to league action and obtaining the same score against leaders Barnet. Their keeper, Andy Coughlin apparently pulled off a string of saves and will be a hard man to beat! Louis Moult is their top scorer backed up by the likes of Jennings (suspended for our previous match together) and Andy Bishop. Recent signings include Kyle Storer from Kiddy and Kieron Morris on loan from Walsall, both debuted against us last time out with the latter coming on as a late substitute!
We have been boosted this week with the signing on loan of two strikers in the form of local lad Jamie Reid and John Campbell from Exeter and Oxford respectively. I would suggest that they are much needed signings as we have created chances this season but seem to only put a relatively low percentage away. I suspect that only one will start on Saturday and will be interesting to see who starts and how they get on.
Our form is pretty good going into this with 4 wins in the last six albeit 3 of them being against lower opposition in the cup, hence the importance of the morale boosting away win at Eastleigh last Saturday. I think the defence will be the same but the rest of the side is up for grabs apart from Young, Bowman and Ajala. Not sure if Chappell is fit after his injury last week? Anyway, if we can come back to Plainmoor no more than a goal down but preferably with parity or better then we have a good chance of progressing!
COYY!
