On an unrelated situation, the gulls nest now has curtains up at the windows,as due to licensing laws it is an offence to have alcohol being consumed during the game that can be clearly seen from the stands whilst the game is on.This law is not the same for rugby supporters they can still do it. I overheard discussion of this at the game yesterday. This rather surprised me because I'm sure this piece of legislation is the best part of thirty years old. I thought it was introduced when football had a particular issue with hooliganism. It may sound unfair but, at the time, there was little reason to apply it to other sports.

I didn't realise that law was still in effect. I remember in the 90's when we used to have a box that you could not be seen to drink alcohol or take it out of the box if you went outside. How different that is to matches here, where the beer vendors are walking around throughout the whole game and are very vocal about it too.

I recall being a corporate guest at an Argyle v Gulls game many years ago (4-3, Scott Partridge playing?). We were in that old box building that used to be in the corner between the grandstand and away end and to avoid this issue we supped ale from coffee mugs! Didn't taste the same but seemed like a good idea at the time.

You ordered a pot of 'special tea' and they brought out lager in a teapot. They'd throw a couple of empty alcohol free cans on the table so that if the religious police showed up they thought you were drinking AF lager out of cups. That fact that 6 guys were totally out of their swedes on the stuff seemed to pass them by. I have no recollection of actually eating any food in them.
