Another home game and probably one we could have done without. Not optimistic - Berry injured I presume and the inevitable low crowd.

Glad I went. DidI hear right - only 1400 odd. Lovely worked first goal. Triangle between Briscoe, McQuilkin and Richards and a delightful through ball to Bowman who waited just long enough to pick his spot. Second goal good ball out to Bowman on the right. Pin point cross to Ofori-Acheampong who stroked it home. Their goal was always coming as we struggled to retain possession for a long period in the second half. Not dissimilar to our second goal. Good to see you, Jon. Mate who I'd driven to Dover drove down this week, (not a Gull) hence swiftish exit. I'm sure we always win when I bump into you. Best get myself down a bit more often now.
Rice 6 McQuilkin 6 (done a good shift given the makeshift position) Pearce 6.5 MacDonald 6.5 Ives 7 (he's a good 'un) Briscoe 6 Young 7.5 Richards 5.5 Ajala 7 (do like his defensive work) Ofori-Acheampong 7 Bowman 8 MOTM (for the goal, the assist and the work rate)

First on Ive missed but so many home games in succession its just too expensive. Hard working and gutsy win against one of the favorites very pleased for all and thanks for the brief report Rob

Understand the commentary team were moaning about Rice's distribution. Branston's criticism about Rice not playing it out to our full backs is incredibly harsh. That clearly was our game plan at the start, but Halifax, as you'd expect, cottoned on to it and did something about it. He kicked a couple aimlessly into touch, but soon realised if you didn't go dead centre, then it would swirl out in the conditions. Second half, well, the wind was a massive factor as we played with it behind us.
We did sit back and soak rather than retain possession in the second half and I thought it inevitable we'd get caught out at least once with that as a game plan. A shot with some height on it was a guaranteed corner for us in that wind in the second half. It happened a couple of times with nicely tipped over saves from Richards and, I think, Bowman, but that was our sum total before they scored and we just sat back inviting pressure until the inevitable. Though, to be fair, we seemed to learn from our mistake straight after their goal and looked sharper after that.
I thought Halifax looked the brighter of the two sides at the beginning of the first half, but both of our goals, in particular the first, were top drawer for the build up. We are good going forward and suspect on the retreat, often with a fair gap between our midfield and defence to run into for the opposition. Never dull. The work ethic of Ives, Young, Richards, Ajala and Bowman are about as good as we can expect at this level. Very impressive in that respect. 3 points. Job done.
