After a good home win on Tuesday we entertain another part time side that we haven't played in the league since 1978. No disrespect to Southport but this is a fixture we should be looking to win as they haven't notched an away win in over a year!
Southport came 18th in the conference last year under the respected John Coleman but he has left and replaced by Martin Foyle, formerly manager of Hereford, Port Vale and York City. They have seen many changes to their side but have had a poor start losing narrowly at home by a single goal to the fancied Forest Green and then away to Halifax Town by three goals to one. The only name I really recognise is Richard Brodie but he may be injured as didn't play in the last match.
I think we can take a lot from Tuesday's game and hopefully we can achieve a similar outcome. I think we will have our best defender Pearce back for this one but who will he replace? After the PSFs, I would have said Downes but he had a good game on Tuesday with a dominant display, dealing with the high balls really well and maybe he is what we need for this match. In midfield, Harding probably did enough to retain his place as well. After being our best player on Saturday, Briscoe was quiet on Tuesday with Hargreaves citing tiredness? Think he will start again but the wings are our most competitive position s so he will need to watch out!
Up front, Yeoman and Bowman has a nice ring to it if nothing else and Don't think O'Achie has done enough to start, Benyon didn't even make the bench on Tuesday... Hopefully, Bowman will convert some more chances as couldn't follow up from a fine goal with arguably some easier opportunities!
I'm away for the weekend so looking forward to reading some good match reports!

Benyon was out with mouth abscesses, apparently. I would have Briscoe in behind Bowman, with Cameron and Ajala on the wings. Gus in at right back for Tonge?

I thought Tonge did half decent against Welling, linking play well, so he should keep his place. I can only remember one mistake when he gave away possession in Welling's half but luckily they did not capitalize on it. Gus on the other hand was careless in possession and his distribution normally did not find a yellow shirt. I like him as a defender but what sort of right back would McDonald make?
I personally hope we keep Yeoman in attack with Bowman - at least he does not keep falling over!
Sadly I will be in Dorset this weekend so cannot make this one. I look forward to all your reports...

For fighting, according to Sky. WTF. Southport player went down clutching his face. Couldnt tell from my angle if Bowman actually nutted him....

A very well, deserved draw with Southport 0-0. Having played around 65 mins with ten men. I just hope we haven't bought a liability in Ryan Bowman. He was sent off after around 25 mins of the first half.he was fouled and had been given a free kick and after a mild scuffle with the Southport player stuck his head, into the players face. It didn't seem that bad but every player should know you can't do,what he did,a stupid action. Overall the Gulls created the better chances and you had to think with eleven men we probably would have won. Cameron was a thorn in their side throughout the match. Downes and McDonald were towers of strength at the back. Young had a terrific effort that was tipped over the bar towards the end which deserved to win the match. Of course Bowman misses the next three matches.

Early days I suppose though I saw enough on Tuesday to make me realise this was going to be an up and down season. Had more important things to do today and saved my self a few quid. At least Southport didn't break their away duck though and listening only to the opening exchanges it sounded as if Rice was the busier of the two keepers and the defense had to be on their toes again for periods in the match. Cant understand the mentality of Bowman who got himself sent off. A suspect temperament that has got him a few red cards in his short career. I had also forgotten how much lower the refereeing standards are at this level. Our most recent relegation from the football league is so different this time around and I'm not sure we can gain the same sort of impetus as we did back then. Can't see any sort of challenge for the top few spots coming from us but who knows its a long season though I wont be holding my breath. Rovers fans are also finally realising that this is a very tough division with good players, many who are part time.

How frustrating for CH. I'm sure he will have looked at this match beforehand as one we could get max points from, only to be let down by one of his players. I'm sure words will be said behind closed doors.
4 points from 3 games isn't too terrible but 6 would have been better.

Thought we played relatively well, all things considered. Just lacked a finish, though not as much as Southport, who really should have scored on a couple of occasions. We showed good character and never played like a team down to 10, aside from perhaps lacking a man in the middle for crosses once or twice. Cameron was excellent, Downes was solid (!), Tonge put in some good balls and O'Achie has probably played his way into a starting spot for the next 3 games even though he is clearly raw and learning
The only downsides were Yeoman lacking the presence to play on his own up front (which we kind of already knew and Hargreaves evidently realised pretty quickly) and Cruise being poor again - Arsenal education my arse, the guy can't make a simple pass without giving it away, something even the supposed limited donkey Downes can do (and did many times). He's not good enough
Didn't see anything of the Bowman incident but I trust the ref on that one. He's a big loss

Hi all......we seemed to have signed a live wire in bowman to say the least lol........ok maybe we should of had got the 3 points.....but it's not doom and gloom......the gaffer will be very frustrated.....and no doubt a few strong words would have been said behind closed doors as was stated in a previous post......but on the whole we are ok.......obviously a lot of room for improvement in a lot of areas....which no doubt many of you will have your own opinion on that as you see more than I do.......Am still confident we will finish in playoffs at worst this season......si
