On the plus side when did we last win two league games on the trot- Almost a year ago I believe Barnet home and Morcombe away. That run will hopefully be the one to go today. Short term memory going Pete? It was "only" December..... Forgot that marvelous run DVN! Oh well of little consequence in any case as Newport halted their sequence of poor results and It was always going to be us anyway who assisted them.

Just a few observations from today's game. We were poor, 11 men or 10 we did not look like scoring and, the goal mouth melee apart, we rarely troubled what was a very poor Newport side. Inevitably Zebroski scored, was disappointed to see him put his finger to his lips (directed at the popside) following his goal, I was hoping he may have showed a bit more class than that. Regardless of that, he did show us what we are missing. I was surprised at the apparent lack of urgency shown by the players today, it felt like a pre season friendly. I'm sure the players were trying but something was certainly missing, be it belief, confidence, certainly on occasions quality, or maybe a combination of all three. I was disappointed with Elliott Benyon today, couldn't stay on his feet and does not look a goal threat in any way, shape or form. Having said that our 'strategy' of lumping long balls up to him does not give him or any of our forwards much chance. A final word for the referee today, my own opinion is that he was one of the worst I've seen at plainmoor (and that is a stiff competition!). Sending off extremely harsh and did nothing to address Newport's shameless time wasting. Also completely ignored a challenge on Pearce by a Newport player in the second half which was not dissimilar to that of Goodwin's. The player in question didn't even get a telling off! Ref's? Don't you just love em? In conclusion then, today had all the hallmarks of a club going down. Of course it is still mathematically possible to escape but there was just enough quality on show today (Pearce excepted) to perform the required miracle.

I am not convinced Zebrowski's winner was deflected. I had a clear view of it sat just behind in the Family stand. My view is that he dinked it beautifully over Rice - it was a quality finish and Zebs knew exactly what he was doing.
As for the sending off incident, I've had a good look on the T.V. highlights. It would appear Goodwin did lead with his elbow and caught the Newport player. I doubt the Newport player faked it as he rolled on the floor, he probably was genuinely caught by Goodwin's elbow. I doubt it was intentional on Goodwin's part, just a bit naive. It will probably be something he will learn from experience. And that leads me to my point. We have been too reliant all season on inexperienced loanees who are trying to learn their trade and they will at times make naive mistakes. I am not convinced this policy has really helped us at all.

Not much point in trying to predict games any more, expect to lose against Rochdale and win, expect to win against Cheltenham and lose! This is of course, a game we should be able to win.
One thing that is predictable though, and that is that the four games after this one are going to be rather difficult to win.
Hence in the PL I've got us down for a loss in this one, but will put the following four games down as wins!
Confused...so am I!
Nothing to worry about, we haven't lost any ground and the match went to form...lose against the easy teams and win against the hard teams; so a truck load of points coming up! The two teams above Northampton lost and Northampton themselves only drew. We needed one win to overtake them before yesterdays game and we still need one win to overtake them...albeit we need to score a few goals along the way!
So don't worry, it's all in hand, as I've said before, it will all go down to the last game at home with Wycombe! So sit back and enjoy the ride, look out of the window and enjoy the scenery, just like I am!

Freezing the frame on the highlights, it clearly looks to me as if the Newport lad led with his elbow.
I'm convinced it was the play-acting and rolling around on the floor that caused the sending off.
He then winked at the Popside after he got what he wanted.

A dreadful refereeing decision not helped by the Newport player faking injury. Maybe we should put something on Twatter for the FA to investigate as they seem to prosecute on a whim! Zebroski clearly gives Shamire a little nudge in the back when he is about to jump which adds momentum. Nothing will be done about it referees are a law unto themselves, we will have to pay the price along with Shamire as its pointless appealing as only the Arsenals of this world can afford to appeal wrong or unjust decisions. Still think we would have struggled we cant score with eleven on the pitch so it was a completely lost cause after we went down to ten. Full marks to the players they kept at it as much as they could even though it was awful to watch and through perseverance nearly stole a point at the death.
When you look at our approach play from wing back through midfield we simply offer little threat and struggle to compete and pass the ball , all the forwards can rely on then for supply is a long hoof from the back. Sadly its been that way all this season and most of last. No creativity little pace equals few chances for the forwards that is where our troubles lie not necessarily in the front line where Elliot has to run his guts out to get the ball. Craig Isn't the answer Billy is a waste of space and money - never plays or gives all for ninety minutes, drifts out of games constantly, doesn't score goals, and doesn't create chances for those around him. As much as I wanted him to succeed he has been the singular biggest disappointment over the last two seasons and he was a Ling signing that cost the club hugely. We have chopped and changed the front line all season when the problems lie in the middle of the park surely an intelligent and knowledgeable manager recognises this?

The behaviour of the Newport players was pretty shameful and for their captain to then turn and wink at the fans is very poor indeed. It really annoys me to see this play acting and blatant gamesmanship to try and get a fellow professional in to trouble. It's rife at all levels now and at times it's infuriating, almost always embarrassing. Sadly many referees are taken in and produce the cards after being surrounded by baying players. Just can't stand this element of the modern game. Rant over!
