Not to be today as the women go down to a narrow 3-2 away defeat despite twice equalising in the FACup but as always, not the worst thing as we are falling behind the leaders just due to not playing enough games so will be now able to focus once more on the league.

link - not sure how Steve has managed this but Connie Pengelly, ECFC top scorer this season has just signed for TUWFC!!! Certainly a growing contingent of ex ECFC players are now wearing yellow as the squad continues to be strengthened. Think Connie will be cup tied in the FA Cup next Sunday if the rules are the same as the men. Pengelly signing link - with write up and interview.

TUFC match report - Back to the league action now with just two games before the Christmas break, away to Poole this Sunday before a challenging match the following week at home to current league leaders Forest Green, just like us they have lost one match so far, guess who to?

link - another good away win on a bitterly cold day with all three goals coming in the first half which the women pretty much dominated and could have had more. First goal came came early on after some good work by Ellie Bishop on the left whose cross came to Esme Kilburn Thompson who put the ball away welI and must say she looks sharp and her time away has done her no harm at all and seems to have seamlessly reintegrated herself straight back into the team. She also scored the second which was made by Tracey Cross advancing through the opposition midfield and then placing the ball past the last defender for Esme to run onto and fire home from just inside the penalty area. Final goal came just before half-time when Ellie Bishop was able to use her pace to latch onto a through ball and then make room to slot the ball home into the net. Slower and more even second half perhaps not helped by Esme and Ellie being substituted early on which seemed to nullify a lot of our attacking threat. First sighting of new signing Connie Pengelly although little chance for her to shine but early days yet. Nevertheless, overall a job well done with league leaders Forest Green, comprehensively beaten by Bristol Rovers 0-5 at home today which opens things up somewhat in the league, coming down to Coach Road next Sunday for the last game of the calendar year.

link - Nice review from manager Steve Elwood of 2022. TUFC Women have had a much happier year than the men and have a real chance of promotion going into the New Year with 100% focus on the league not being a bad thing. In some respects they have mirrored the national team showing great improvement and winning a cup during the summer for the first time in their history! I was fortunate enough to be at both of these finals with a totally different script to previous play off finals that I attended at Ashton Gate and Old Trafford. Nice to see that a number of the women in the national team are in the new years Honours list with Beth Mead also winning BBC sports personality of the year becoming the first women’s footballer to do so. As both interest and profile in this part of the game increases it will have a positive impact at grassroots level which will only get better as more funding comes in improving both the professionalism and standards of the league system in the coming years. It would be great if TUWFC can be both a force and beneficiary in this starting by moving up to the fourth tier come the summer.

link - women return after their mid season break tomorrow hosting Ilminster town with the 3G pitch meaning there won’t be a cancellation. Funny enough following the pre Christmas incomings another player has signed - Natalie Warman, most previously at Ilminster but also ex Torquay, Buckland and Exeter so plenty of experience with a lot at the next level up. Only downside is Mia Preston who has impressed and scored a few on the right has signed for Bridgwater United who are two levels up in the National League Southern Premier Division. - linkStill, we seem to have a very strong squad with a good chance of promotion which seems to be attracting the right players.

Listening in as on uni run up to Cardiff now but solid performance being 2-0 up at half time, missed a couple of opportunities early on with Ilminster then frustrating before Ellie Bishop scored a good goal and then turned provider for the second.

Post match interview with Sasha Mole who is normally seen supporting the mascots at Plainmoor. Will always be the County Cup goalkeeper hero for me but is a very versatile player filling in at centre back and more recently right back this season. Scored a long range goal on Sunday.
