In light of Timbo's computer problems I'll throw in two or three programmes from previous visits to Gigg Lane.
None are of particularly fine vintage and I'd be mightily impressed if somebody came up with the programme from our very first visit to Gigg Lane for a cup tie early in 1931. That would have been one of Torquay United's earliest excursions to the north of England.
But not, in transpires, even the first of that season for we had beaten Accrington Stanley away from home in the previous round. Trips to Accrington and Bury in close succession must have seemed outlandish eighty-three years ago. It's not something we batter an eyelid about now. Just imagine November's fixture list had we been drawn away to Rochdale.
So to 1982 and a local trip for me shortly after moving to Lancashire. The game was played in April. Bury were doing reasonably well but, in those days before play-offs, they had little to chase. Torquay, with no relegation from the fourth tier, had nothing to fear. A reasonable line-up but, from what I recall, very little in reserve; Tommy Wheldon ("senior" as perhaps we should now call him) coming on as substitute. Just the one sub allowed at the time so, that alone, would have been indicative of us being short of players. 1-0 to us. It didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things but I remember it being rather satisfying at the time.
Continuing the theme of Newcastle's 1976 League Cup final appearance there's one of their team lining up for Bury: late replacement number six Pat Howard.
Oh yes, a big name referee in George Courtney of Spennymoor, County Durham.
