On to one of the many industrial estate grounds in this division, a suitably uninspiring venue for what currently looks like an uninspiring match. Since their relegation from League One, Wycombe have struggled financially as part of their transition to fan ownership, which has put an end to their yo-yoing between the two divisions that saw them either promoted or relegated for four consecutive seasons
The first match between the two clubs came in December 1993, after Wycombe were promoted to the Football League for the first time. Goals from Paul Trollope and Terry Evans saw the two sides draw 1-1 at Plainmoor, with an identical result at Adams Park. This was the last time the two clubs were in the same division for 12 seasons, as Wycombe were immediately promoted into what was then Division Two - the only time the clubs met in the intervening period was a Football League Trophy tie in 2002-03, won 4-0 by Wycombe at Plainmoor, with future Exeter striker Sean Devine scoring a hat-trick
Surprisingly, in recent years, Torquay have had a decent record at Adams Park. In the 5 league fixtures there, we have won twice, lost twice, and only once failed to score. However, Wycombe also have a good record at Plainmoor, losing only once there - they also won both fixtures 2-1 last season, the first at home in October with goals from Gary Doherty and Josh Scowan, and the second at Plainmoor in February with late goals from Sam Wood and Matt McClure
Our last win at Adams Park, and indeed over Wycombe, came in 2010 - despite falling behind to a Stuart Beavon goal, Nicky Wroe scored twice as we won 3-1. Our last home win over the Chairboys was a 3-0 victory in March 2007, our penultimate win of an ill-fated season, with goals coming from Lloyd Kerry, Marvin Williams and Chris Robertson. And if you like the slightly obscure player references, Morike Sako scored his second goal for Torquay in this fixture in 2005, a 2-2 draw at home on Boxing Day - his first goal had come just over a week earlier against Bristol Rovers
This current incarnation of the Wycombe side seems to have started the season in binary fashion - three defeats in a row in August, followed by four wins in a row through September, and currently on a two-match run of defeats. They have drawn just twice in their 12 matches so far this season. Scoring goals has not been too much of an issue, with the team having scored in their last 8 matches in all competitions, and they have kept clean sheets against both of the other Devon sides. Their last match was a 2-1 defeat to Burton, with both Brewers goals being scored by Billy Kee before a late consolation from McClure. Tonight they play Bristol City in the Football League Trophy, after dispatching Exeter at St James Park in the previous round - they face Bristol Rovers on 19th October in the league
