To be quite honest Pete and Reg, midfield was not the problem yesterday. Profligate finishing and, despite Chappies 2 excellently taken goals at the Cobblers, none of the wide men seemed to be able to accurately cross the ball into the area. They all seemed to be going behind the goal line. Think you might have hit the nail on the head there Ditmar and found out why when I saw them a few weeks back some of our players looked shagged out! Profligate: (2) Indulging excessively in physical pleasures. On a serious note...did you think our midfield was OK?

Well that was predictable...hence that was my prediction league score! Hartlepool haven't scored a goal so far this season, and now we know why...they're crap! Sadly though, what does that make us by not being able to beat them? We just do not have the ability to put teams at the bottom of the league to the sword; and this problem has been going on for as long as I can remember. That's why every season we are just a few points away from automatic promotion or we are in a relegation fight! It's obvious the midfield is nowhere near good enough and somehow we have to get somebody in who can play in that role because otherwise we will struggle again this season. Knill says he likes to bring in loan players so let's hope he can get someone in sharpish i.e., when the window opens tomorrow...I think? Hi del, don't think there's any panic for rush signings or loan players.....ok wasnt there yesterday, and listening and reading what has been said.....don't think it was a predictable scoreline......on that note well done for guessing correctly.......we had enough chances early doors to put Hartlepool away......am taking positives believe it or not....we will play alot worse this season and come away with the 3 points...we kept a clean sheet to.ok your going to say they weren't the best team.but how many times have we conceded goals against weaker teams.....so a good performance on tues will put us in good stead for next sat......the gaffer says hi mate to.....si

Profligate: (2) Indulging excessively in physical pleasures. On a serious note...did you think our midfield was OK? I would say more like "recklessly extravagant or wasteful in the use of resources". We could (probably) have doubled our attempts at goal had the wingers managed to get crosses into play instead of behind the goal line. Thats hardly indicative of the midfield sleepwalking through the game. I didnt pay much particular attention to just how many passes they were completing but the number of times a winger had the ball but achieved no end product was quite scary. And then, even when it did prove dangerous, the forwards contrived to miss, the worst probably being BB from all of 5 yards when it must have been more difficult to miss the goal than score? Yesterday was really crying out for a poacher to stick one of the chances away but alas our poacher was a spectator till the last 10 minutes. Like him or loathe him, he is probably our most likely source of goals in a game like that. Yes, had O'Kane been on the pitch he may well have scored after drifting past a couple of opponents and unleashing a shot into the top corner, but I havnt seen anything from the rest of the squad that says any of them can do the same. Yes to having a Ladabie in the team as well, but he seems a regular starter at County now so that wont happen. Had we not created the chances, or not had the ball in attacking positions with the final ball inaccurate, then I would be concerned. As it is, once the wide players get their boots zero'd in, I would like to think the other attackers will reciprocate by tucking the end product away...

Ditmar van Nostrilboy I would imagine that our 'poacher' still has his head held in shame today, and won't enjoy showing his face at training on Monday either. His decision to 'poach' Callum Ball's 'goal' off him as it was going over the line was really quite incredible. All three points could have been ours yesterday if we'd only kept Benyon on the bench for another 10 minutes.

It looked like the keeper got a touch (from my angle) on it to me so it may not (or equally may) have crept over the line? I notice they didnt show it on the FL show. Lets hope it's on the Sky highlights.

Thanks Sam again. I've looked at the offside goal lots of times. Benyon was definitely offside and a bit naive I thought to drift offside. Was Ball's shot going in? Its a difficult one to call, it's all a bit of a blur and you have a white hoarding behind the white ball. My suspicion is that the keeper got a touch to the ball but the ball was probably still going in - but it's not clear. By the way, to those Nicholson knockers who say he is past it, look at his beautiful through ball to release Ball for the offside goal. As I said last week Nicholson still tends to be involved in our best moves.

Imagine if we had a Labadie type player in our team right now, instead of looking over our shoulders for the rest of the season we would be looking at almost certain promotion!

Nice to hear that we got our first away win of the season against YORK last week! Difficult to tell if the disallowed goal was going in, but I think Benyon had the right to go for it. In that situation with the ball going at that speed, you don't have a lot of time to think whether shall I go for it or not!
