After two tough away games last week, we are back at Plainmoor against an Oxford side looking to build on their good start and no doubt will bring a good crowd with them to cheer them on. After three games, we are also looking for our first win and this promises to be a good clash against one of the stronger sides in the division that are looking to pass the ball more these days.
Since last season, Wilder has looked to strengthen his side bringing in ten players with half of them making the starting XI and likely to feature against us. Their stand out signing is Dave Kitson, coming from Sheffield United and maybe some of our more northern members can give the low down on him? Danny Rose has moved across from Fleetwood and Mullins from Rotherham and both of them got on the score sheet last Saturday at home to Bury. The other two new boys likely to start are David Hunt who has come across from Crawley and Newry, released by Scunthorpe and someone that Knill will no doubt be familiar with!
Other notable names in this talented Oxford side are Alfie Potter and Deane Smalley who both scored a brace in their surprising 1-4 opening day win at Fratton Park although Portsmouth were down to 10 men for the last two goals scored. Sean Rigg can be a threat and Danny Wring is a utility player who has become an integral part of this Oxford side.
We have played very well in the first half against Swindon and the second against Morecambe and Knill has called for that standard over the whole game and we will need to play near the best of our abilities to keep all three points here. With the mid week game against Cheltenham, I suspect that the starting XI will only have the one enforced change at right back. I think Cruise is firstmost in Knill's mind to cover here after playing there in the reserve game although the case can also be made for Manse and Hutchings as well. On the injury front, Poke is training again and probably not too far from making the subs bench but no news yet as to whether Benyon is fit again.
COYY!

Is that the Danny Wring that used to play for us and wasn't very good?

We always seem to struggle and let in goals against Oxford have a decent squad on paper. One of my tips for success this season so we will have to be at our best for this one or the gaping defensive holes and chances of the opening day that Wimbledon were presented with will be punished. This match will certainly give us some idea of how or if we are "getting there"

Just seen our Torquay Legends team for Sunday, Gareth Howells, Paul Holmes, Robbie Herrera, Kevin Hill, Alex Watson,Tom Kelly, Chris Brass, Chris Hargreaves, Dave Caldwell, Dean Edwards, Mark Loram, Paul Hall, Alex Russell, Russell Musker, Andy Mcfarlane and Paul Smith. Theres some talent in that team IMO. And of course no shortage of well known ex players in the Plymouth and Exeter teams including Martin Ling and Shaun Taylor playing for City !

Oxford fan in peace.
Really looking forward to Saturday's game. I like a lot of other Oxford supporters will be making a weekend of it and travelling down tomorrow morning.
Torquay away is always one of the first fixtures that i look for when they come out, a friendly atmosphere, decent supporters club for a few pints and a good away end.
Expect 1000+ oxford in attendance.
Score Prediction: Gulls 1 Oxford 2.
N.B any suggestions what the wife and 3 year old can do if the weather is poor on Saturday?

Hi, mate yes Torquay is always a good place to visit (and live). The away end is just right for FL2 & 400 plus can create a good atmosphere there and for your supporters that are sitting in The Bench (Grandstand)will have a great view of the game.Boots and Laces is good for a pint before the game sky sports etc. If the weather is poor on Saturday bring the wife and 3 year old to the game!!! (ok I get you, you can visit Living Coasts or go on the Rivera Eye there plenty of places to eat drink etc) 1000+ great more for the united coffers score, score draw I think. We are at home so WE are The Yellow Army you can be something else for that day!!

Top man, thanks for the suggestions for the significant other and sprog! I would take them to the game but the idea of being asked about the offside rule, moaned at about standing for 90 minutes and the inevitable foul language suggests that packing her off to the Rivera Eye is the way to go! You are welcome to be the yellow army on Saturday as we will be wearing our new away strip of purple...)god knows what the decision makers were thinking!) Chrissy Wilder's Purple Army!!!

Hi, hope you have a good trip down here and feel free to post your thoughts on the match afterwards. Living coasts, the eye are good suggestions and the rainbow fun house has an under 5 section if family need to kill anymore time near the harbour if it is damp. Model village is another attraction quite near to Plainmoor if you want other options...

I see from dot com that both Benyon and Poke are training and both may be able to feature in the matchday squad on Saturday.

..the inevitable foul language suggests that packing her off to the Rivera Eye is the way to go! Yes. If it was just the wife you could put up with it, but now the 3 year old has started effing and blinding.....

I get the sense that Cruise will play at right back tomorrow and although Manse is an option that would mane two changes to the side to solve one problem....
